Sossa-Bala - Emmanuel Séjourné - Wheaton College Percussion Ensemble

Sosso-Bala by Emmanuel Séjourné was commissioned by the Ju-Percussion Group. It received its world premiere 22 March 2007 in Taiwan. The marimba parts are designed to be played by multiple players on the same instruments which creates a very interesting visual and musical effect - Steveweiss.com
This was my final performance with the Wheaton College Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Kathleen Kastner. I love you guys.

Glad you re uploaded this performance as I enjoyed it. Also, I came to the Saturday evening performance of the Christmas Fest. your senior year which was your very last Christmas Fest. performance. One thing really memorable about that night was how we were a pretty high spirited crowd. Do you still remember that, Nathaniel?

Of course!!! Christmas festivals at Wheaton were some of my favourites and the Saturday night crowds are always fantastic! So glad you were able to be there and for those :)

@@NathanielHolmanPercussion Glad I got to come as well, it was a magical experience for me. Based on what I've been discussing, I'm curious to know where you would rank the crowds from the best to the worst among all the Christmas Fests you took part in?

MrJon92as well that’s quite a question! There were never any bad crowds, but I’d say my freshman year’s performance had the most excited crowd with my senior year just behind. Junior year and sophomore were both about the same I’d say!

I asked mainly because I was curious where the crowd I was a part of would be placed, and I'm happy with the fact that we're a close second. The Saturday night crowd from your freshman year did seem pretty energetic as well. (I know this from when that Christmas Fest. was up on youtube.)

mallets used?

Erkin Can hmmm I know there was a mix of the encore NZB2s and M1 Round Sound 3s as the wrapped mallets. We used just general cheap steveweiss rubber mallets on the vibes, and I forget exactly which rubber mallets we used for marimba (might’ve been malletech) but comparable would be the VF154s for top parts and 152s or 153s for the bass.
