You don’t need a lawyer to get a divorce. Go to your courthouse get the form. Fill it out. & Pay the filing fee!
I told my cousin this and she did hers for $75 several years ago. & Her estranged spouse was in another state living his life with someone else.
In some states you can print the documents from the internet at your local library. And the price varies but I paid about $75 to do my own divorce without a lawyer.
Mine was $89.95. I asked about getting rid of his last name and was told that would cost money. Didn't want to pay that. So I was advised to just stop using it.
