I'm 74 years old now and I started having swelling feet about a year ago for the first time in my life. I did all kinds of research about it and I found that eating a lot of salty food makes it worse, and that if I drink more water that it helps alleviate it some, and that if I take vitamins and herbs to improve circulation that they help a lot. So I've been taking 800 IU of vitamin E every day (d alpha), one capsule of Hawthorn Berry Extract, two capsules of CoQ10, one capsule of Hibiscus Extract, two capsules of Dandelion Root, 5 grams of Vitamin C powder (dissolved in water), plus a good multi-vitamin every day. Plus I've noticed that if I sit around a lot that it makes the swelling worse, so I try to keep moving as much as I can. I hope this helps someone.

@whatadollslife - Most primary or even cardiac doctors do NOT know about lymphedema - it is a hole in their education. My cardiologist prescribed Lasix for lymphedema, which is not an appropriate treatment and did not work. Seeking out specialized care is worth the effort. Many physical therapy practices have CERTIFIED lymphedema specialists who have the expertise to help. Also, some medical centers with strong cancer programs have lymphedema departments. For example, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC has the one I have been using. Best of luck!
Don't forget that what you eat impacts how much you swell. I got rid of all of my swelling when I gave up all processed foods, table salt, eating fresh veggies and some chicken or fish on a intermittent fasting diet. Boring yes! But I have lost 25 pounds and have normal sized ankles and legs every day. It is worth it. I am 64 and feel 20 years younger without the pain and swelling.
A dozen years ago both of my legs from the knees down swelled up huge. I finally spent 2 weeks laying on my back in bed as many hours per day as I could with my feet high up on the bedroom wall. At first I only spent time in bed with my legs prone but that didn't help. That's when I decided to get gravity on my side by putting my butt against the wall with my legs pointing straight up. It worked. I had the same problem a few years later but only in one leg. I was able to correct that just by sitting on the couch with my feet straight out onto the coffee table. Right now my right foot has been swollen for a couple weeks but it swells even worse during the night when I sleep. 2 days ago I started moving my foot in all directions, spreading my toes and holding those positions as hard as possible in every configuration for a few seconds. That activity has made a huge difference. Today my foot is almost normal size after doing that for only 2 days.
I so appreciate the tips!! Especially the ones to help the ankles!! My lymph swelling is below the knee & my ankles & feet are the worst! I learned so much from your video and am excited to try these tips!
I've had edema for a very long time and never realised what it was until over a year ago. I have swollen ankles and feet and some tightness in the legs. I came across some interesting info about mini trampolines/rebounders and purchased a really good bungee model. Believe it or not by just bouncing up and down I'm managing my edema. 1/2 an hour per day split into 2 quarter hours with stretching exercises in between for 15mins is helping a lot. I may with time try an hour 4 times a week. Rebounding has been proven to be great for lymphatic drainage. I have noticed the difference since I took up rebounding. If you look at the benefits of rebounding it is absolutely brilliant. Good for bone density, balance, heart, circulation, oesteoporosis, arthritis and much more. NASA did a report on their astronauts who were getting oesteoporosis and found rebounding worked wonders! You can purchase bars to attach to rebounders if balance is a problem. I don't have that issue so can work without one but for those who need that extra support it is well worth getting that add on. One last thing it is gentle on the joints and apparently exercising on the rebounder lubricates the joints. If you have physical problems it is always best to discuss with a doctor whether this form of exercise is for you. I made my own judgement call and I don't regret taking up rebounding.
These are the best solutions I have seen for my ankle and upper foot swelling. I spent five weeks with Rehab Specialist and my right leg looks and feels 60% better. I need more to maintain my treatment for the ankle area. Thank you Dr. Kelly!
I bought an adjustable bed after I broke my shoulder and had to sleep in a chair for weeks. That bed is wonderful. If I have a stuffy head, I raise the head of the bed a bit and I sleep well, if my feet and ankles swell I raise the root of the bed so my feet are above my heart as I sleep, that works well, reducing the swelling. I found exercising helps but not enough, adding the raised feet at night and within a few days, I notice my feet are back to normal. I'm 71.
Just did that as well and it's a godsend. Got the Mainstays adjustable base from Walmart, which is much cheaper than the other ones on the market but does a great job.
Hi Kelly, Thanks for the demonstration video. You took your time to explain and demonstrate everything. I have lymphedema and most of the swelling is on both thighs, both calves, both ankles, and both feet. The therapist I have seen are always in such a hurry and don't really explain or demonstrate anything. Your video was very informative and educational.

Never fear, the best lymphatic nurse is here! Right on this channel! God bless you for sharing your expertise with us! ✝️❤️🧡💛💚💙💜💞
wonderful for this specialist advice. I have noticed that wearing my racer sneaker with an old, worn, tommy copper heel out anklet, under regular short socks, over 8 hours, reduced my ankle, instep and toe swelling for up to another eight hours and overnight into the next morning at least.
These are all brilliant techniques and demonstrations, especially the one for the toes. Thanks for the careful step by step demonstrations and overall thoroughness of this video.
I am glad I came across your channel, however I am a male and I have been suffering from swollen and painful feet and ankles for the last few years. It keeps alternating on different foot every few months. Doctors haven't been able to figure out the cause or why it's been happening. They keep treating it like a trial and error. Recently I went for a lymph nodes massage therapy. It took time but it subsided, the pain and swelling. I was wondering what would you recommend for someone like me. Thank you
Best thing I did for this was was lay on a bed on my stomach so I was comfortable taking all pressure off my feet and I just slowly did some foot exercises that helped bring down the swelling cooled water like an ice pack helped too.
i never saw this before but i could never wrap my toes or feet like this and still be able to walk. the lymph lady i went to--at a local hospital out building-- nearly broke my back trying to smash my shoe back on over 5 layers of foam wrap. she ripped the insides out of my shoes as if she did not care she was ruining them, i could not walk and threw my already bad back out. I cried when i left her, i am over 60, the pain she put me in from her wraps made me want to jump in front of a truck-- and that is never my attitude. my knees swelled so much from her wrapping i thought they would explode and after 3 days of suffering i cut the bandages off-- that i had to buy - she said my insurance did not cover them-- i have no way of knowing this is true or not, my legs looked like triangles too. i went and bought sandles over 3 sizes too big to just fit the bandaged feet in, and nearly broke my neck just trying to walk, i do not go there anymore, and it took 2 years to find her at a hospital because here, unless you have oozing wounds no one will take you in, I am in S.E. FL. and on medicaid-- to old to work too young for medicare-- oh and she tried to make me buy some compression machine for close to $500.00 that of course i do not have, some mean guy also kept calling me about it== so suddenly she was going to see me 12 times but she cut me off for not buying the machine thing, she kept saying = dont you want to have skinny legs == so she -- dismissed me-- thank god-- i was not going back anyway, i did not go there to have some one hurt me. i walk a lot and her dang bandages made it impossible for me to do so or even live, no sleep at all the pain was horrid. i AM DOING MUCH BETTER NOW, i think the walking is helping somehow, i also am a vegan-- i know--- no one wants to hear it-- but it has helped my health out so i DO NOT care if people do not like when i say this, we all have to do what is good for us, changing my diet a few years ago changed my life and i feel better than i have in years i went from very active to totally sedentary, i do not know why. i do not work for or sponsor or promote anyone, just sharing my story, I have great mistrust of many medical prrofessionals, they view people as a meal ticket and not a human life-- again-- this is just my opinion-- do not shoot me for saying so, it just cant hurt to be aware of what you put into your body. always just be careful, the docs are always throwing pills at us, go look them up and their side effects before you stuff them down, there is plenty of available and good resources to read up on. this lady here seems to know her stuff. i just felt i must have had an unrealistic person i saw and even if she did do that for 18 or 20 years, it does not mesn she was the right fit for me. just another horrible time in life i cant forget fast enough. i hope you all will get well from what ever causes this really bad thing, people do not understand and would rather pass judgement on you as if you did something wrong. do not let that garbage live rent free in your head/. no one wants to be sick i am sorry to all who are it is nothing i ever expected my life to be
So sorry you went through this horrible experience. I can tell you first hand that most people in the medical field sees us like the dollar signs to buy their fancy cars, clothes and houses etc. Don't worry god sees all that they are doing to his children. They will have to pay for their wicked deeds it oneday. Take care of yourself the best way you can eat healthy, and excercise if you can. Stay safe and god bless❤🙏
@@NansGlobalKitchen t.y. yes. we are a commodity, a way to get to a certain goal they have set. I recently read it can take the average person 7-8 years and 4-5 docs to get a correct diagnosis and treatment, if ever. Ty for your kindness
I don't suffer with lymphedema but I suffer with vein issues Venus in deficiency, and my feet swell so bad even in compression stockings, and it cuts into my ankles at times the point it burns and I have to take the stockings off and it also puts swelling into my knees as well, I am a little overweight and have been struggling to lose weight because my problem is I don't eat. I was thinking about switching to vegan in hopes that would help me lose weight and get rid of a lot of this fluid. I do however need a surgery done where they deflate your bad veins but my doctor won't do it until I lose some weight and that's my biggest goal right now is losing weight so did switching vegan help you

Your feeling is validated when you get apologized to. You matter never suffer in pain okay? Nobody should have to suffer. Glad you're feeling better.💕
I suffer from swelling In the ankles and feet. One day we were going to an amusement park for the day. My swelling was bad in the morning so i wore larger shoes. It was close to close time So we decided the last ride would be the giant drop. This ride takes you straight up high in a car and then drops you straight down. I'd say about 75m maybe higher. We got on the ride and i noticed while climbing my shoes started to feel a little loose. By the time we reached the top and started dropping my shoes were nearly falling off. I really thought they would fall off. Once back on the ground my entire swelling was gone. I always wanted to go back and try it again. When I first started getting the swelling in my feet and ankles I went and saw a doctor complaining to him I always got it the next day after eating something like pizza, I guess salty food. All he said was don't eat pizza anymore.
Sharon Thoms. Dear, if you are eating anything that is a carbohydrate or "starches" as our moms use to call them please stop eating them right now. Potatoes are the worst followed by anything made of wheat (like pizza or any kind of bread), rice, banana, plantains, yucca cassava. Usually it's not the salt is the carbs they need water to move in your body so you retain a lot of water to do so.
@Sharon Thomas That giant drop story is amazing! It really worked that fast to get rid of the swelling??? Your doctor sounds useless though. What else did he recommend besides not eating pizza?
Your right my moms feet were swollen really bad and she had to go on a flight from newark nj to Chicago by the time she returned home from the flight her swelling went down and stayed down for a long time.
I suffer from this foot and ankle swelling off and on for years. My research told me that it's to do with kidney and even heart conditions. I have tried stockings for deep vein thrombosis and this helps to reduce the swelling considerably but it doesn't cure the root cause, which for me is the kidneys. Just how much is it the kidney and how much due to lack of exercise or walking due to underlying causes. Thanks.
I love those swell patches 👍🥳🤩 I have a bunch of different shapes of those from small to large. Great for reducing swellling and prevention of scar tissue after breast surgery.
How many of you find it easy to put on compression stockings? I find it an absolute nightmare. There is no way I could put pieces of foam etc in place round my ankles under the stockings.
I use a dressing aid for socks. The stocking is stretched on the form and you just pull it up. Depending on the stocking fabric there still may be some struggle involved but it's less. There are many different designs of these things. Available on Amazon and elsewhere online.
It takes awhile to get the hang of it. I use rubber gloves to put it on the foot, pull the heel into place, then pull the top up. Then bit by bit, edge the top part of the stocking up on your leg with the gloves. WIthout rubber gloves it's pretty impossible. Also, make sure your stockings are not too tight. And 20-30 compression is much easier to put on than 30-40.
@pamelalalaable I just read a comment from someone on another video that they like to use a little kinesiology tape to help keep their komprex pads in place while donning compression stockings. I haven't tried this yet, but I'm definitely ordering kinesiology tape on Amazon today to try this! I wear thigh highs and anklets, and just yesterday thought to try putting pressure pads between the two layers like a compression Sandwich. I put my stockings on, then my anklets over top, then I slid in my Juzo Malleo pressure pads and it kinda worked. This was my first time trying the juzo Malleo pressure pads and I think I need something else. Maybe only a few pieces of gray foam instead. But using the anklet to hold the pressure pads seemed to work for me. My Anklets are open toed, which would be helpful if I wanted to slide in some grey foam or a swell spot over the top of the foot. I get toe edema, so I'm thinking of ordering closed toe anklets and trying to shimmy a thin piece of foam over the toes, forfoot, and around/under the ankle bones. I tried both 20-30 mmHg and 30-40 mmHg anklets. the 20-30 mmHg worked better imo because it was easier to physically maneuver and position the pads. But the 30-40 mmHg has heavier less smooth fabric and I felt like the pad placements were more secure. I'm definitely going to try the tape option, but I think I'll also still experiment with the sandwich method 😊 I'm learning that it's all trial and error and finding what works for you. Good luck to us all!
What did you eliminate that had the most noticeable positive effect? Did you eliminate one at a time? I’m thinking I need to record in a journal when my ankles swell the most. Track what I ate during that time.
thanks for that tip for the top of your foot I find it so hard to target that area with just my compression socks alone I will add that to my stocking routine
Thank you for the suggestions around toe swelling... I've had the most stubborn swelling in the toes, and look forward to getting that addressed using this approach with the grey foam cut to size, and applied with the bandaging over the toes..
I have occlusive DVT in my left leg. I got my blood clot in 2007 and my doctor said the swelling would never go away and he was right. If I am vertical I have pooling if I’m off my feet I have no pulling. I’m on a water pill because if I don’t take it I blow up like a balloon. I so appreciate these videos. I just don’t know how to keep it going. I look fine all day and then I go out let’s say in the afternoon or evening and within a half an hour my left ankle and foot is so swollen.
Cyndi. You have what I have. I was told the same thing after my blood clot. Please read my comment about my diet changes and intermittent fasting. My right foot is still a bit bigger than my left but I have no more swelling , in my legs or ankles. I am very happy with my results. I no longer care about food because I got my legs and and ankles back without pain.

The thing that is frustrating for me is I don’t care what I wear or put on in the winter but in the summer when I wear capris or I’m on the beach the swelling is so embarrassing. I have suffered for years it just won’t go down and stay down
You not alone Cyndi, I have the same problem. In the summer I love to wear Sandles , flip flops Capri pants summery clothing etc. but when I look down at my ugly swollen ankles/feet it’s so hurtful and embrassing.
I was misdiagnosed for years. I still use compression on my leg & arm (S/P bilateral mastectomy with node involvement) but the Keto/LCHF diet turned things around for me. I’ve lost about 60# & my carbs come from greens. When I eat bread or sweets my legs blow up in a few hours.
I found if I use the gua sha stone for the lymphatic massage that the results are pretty good and I can massage in smaller spaces with it then with my fingers. And going to sleep after a lymphatic massage helps a lot.
My mother & I started a medication & within 24 hours, both of our legs & feet started swelling. The doctors didn't believe me that is was the medication. I kept taking it like a dummy because I'd elevate my feet at night & the swelling would go down by morning but OMG I'd have to get up to pee 5 times a night! Well eventually, purplish dots started showing up on the tops of our feet. My mom wasn't on the dose I was so her swelling was as bad as mine. Overtime the swelling caused a tiny wound to pop open in the top of my right foot. No matter what I did, it wouldn't heal & the swelling from the meds was the cause (duh) I switched to another med & within 5 days, all of the swelling in my left leg/foot went away but it would still swell on my right because of the damage with that wound. My mom came off the med completely & all of her swelling n dots went away. Now, the wound is halfway up my leg wrapped around completely 100% I'm not diabetic & no matter what I do, it won't heal. The swelling gets so bad it feels like a heartbeat till I elevate long enough for it to go down some. I honestly don't know what to do. This is a nightmare.
Thank you so much. I have Lupus and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and over the last year or so my feet/ankles sometimes get extremely full of fluid. Like you stated, even with using compression hose it doesn’t help the ankle area much. Thank you for educating me. Your ideas will be so helpful.
I have EDS also. My legs swelled up & started leaking which developed into ulcers. I nearly lost my right leg a couple of years ago. Please make sure you keep suitable compression on your legs & keep your legs well moisturized to keep your skin healthy. I never want what happened to me to happen to anyone else. Good luck, stay healthy.
These videos are awesome. Love the tips for the toes which was extremely effective and reduced the pain significantly. Gratitude 🙏, keep these vids coming,, they are extremely helpful.☝️
I'm caregiver for a patient with Alzheimer's. Her feet and legs swell awful. The meds don't help very much. I'm going to try this along with the massage and see what happens.
Hi I’m 61, I had a blood clot which caused a wound on the outside of my heel. I had to have 2 surgeries a month apart and lost my baby toe. I’m having swelling but I have Developed Charcot foot and now my toes are bending on that foot. Is there anything I can do for that? I am going to send this to my husband since he helps me with my feet, thank you so much!
I've been unable to get that fluid out of the ankle, bc it just swells up again. Now the right leg is swelling and I"m not sure why. It's very frustrating. it's actually quite permanently swollen originally from an old hiking injury.
I have peripheral neuropathy so having the sock part/toes of a stocking & any kind of sheet on my feet is awful. I cut the feet out of my compression socks. My vascular surgeon told me private that compression socks don't help and to stop wearing them. I'm getting laser surgery on my veins. I'll look at some more of your videos. Appreciate your doing this for the typical average case. Would have been nice if you mentioned what level of compression on the socks.
I've done a lot of research after my mother's double bilateral mastectomy where 11 lymph nodes were also removed. She has little swelling under her armpits her arms are not swelled but her ankles and feet both swelled a few days after the operation which she was only in the hospital under 48 hours. I've done a lot of research and see that after breast cancer surgery lymphedema can also affect the legs and feet but her surgeon said that swelling had nothing to do with the operation her oncologist today said it was due to the fluids she got after the surgery which was 2 weeks ago and again she spent less than 48 hours in the hospital and got 1-2 bags of fluid. John Hopkins points to this being lymphedema I was just wondering what your thoughts are regarding this? She's currently on lasix I believe this is the 10th day of the lowest milligram per day the right foot has returned to normal the left has not. Using a finger putting moderate pressure on the foot and removing it after a few seconds does leave a dent that takes time to reform.
I have found that compression stockings (namebrand: Copperfit) work well for me ... and, they have a relatively long life ... The problem that I experience on a regular basis is this ... Before there is any reduction in the swelling ... It is tremendously difficult to get into my shoes ... which means that the separate foot wrapping that you suggest in this video would make it IMPOSSIBLE to get into my shoes in addition to the existing swelling of the feet ...
How uncomfortable and hot would all this be. So time consuming too, not for me. I have trouble getting ordinary stockings in these days, and especially pressure ones. My mother was told all this about 35 year ago, I thought there might be something else these days. I will keep searching.
its only my left leg and foot thats really swollen, I did have a blood clot in that knee some while ago, but it only started to swell about 2 months ago.
@Cancer Rehab PT I came to ask the very same question! Please any suggestions on how to use these pads with compression stockings specifically when donning thigh highs!? . Thank you
I was told no. Elevate feet and legs at nite. Wear camisole instead of a bra. It stops the lymph flow. Nothing tight at waist. A nightgown instead of jammies.
I’ve just become your newest subbie... can you make a video about how to get rid of swelling and cellulite around the knees. Even at my thinnest and as a child, I’ve always had “fat” knees. Thx in advance:)
I am 76 years old and were diagnosed with lymphadema. I am using the straps around the legs. I experience a lot swelling in my feet and toes and ankle as well. Lately I expierence pain at the bottom of the ankle that cause that I cannot walk as the pain is strong. Can you give advice
I have red legs with little blisters all over the place. It's not cellulitis (I had that, too, and antibiotics got rid of it). But although there was swelling for about the first three days, that went away and there is no swelling, except a small fluid sack on my knee. A dermatologist still said she "thinks" it's lymphedema. Have you heard of lymphedema without the feet and ankles being swollen?
First off, thank you a lot for your videos, your advices..you are amazing(my physical therapist recommanded me to follow you)I have a question :when is a good time to wear the compression socks(I have to wear it because of my lymphedema),so…during the day when I stand alnost of the day during different activities or during the night?thank you again for your help and support!
Do you keep these on all day and sleep with it on? When my feet swell, I get fluid on the bottom of my feet, making me unstable to walk. Any suggestions.

I'll try
Thank You for the info on the rebounder :-) 10/22/22
Exercise is always very good.
Lymphedema and Edema are not the same!
Drink green tea every day and lots of water as well. These two things really help me profoundly. I have more swelling on days that I don't do this.
Lymphedema and Edema are not the same.
O My Goodness my 84yr old mother suffers from Lymphedema especially the Left Leg,took my mom too therapy for 2mths 3days awk so I could learn how too wrap my mom legs, thank you soo much im subscribing now thx.
Where have you been all my swollen CVI life. LOL. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I can’t wait to try these tips.
Thank, thank you! You have changed my life. This is really working for me I hope this can be a long-term fix.
Thanks this video was very helpful to me. I have stubborn foot swelling and now I have ways to get down the swelling. Peace and Happiness
Looky there! 😂👀 you have 5 toes! Lolol! Some people have 6 toes 🤣🤣🤣 not me though! Whoo hoo! Thats a great idea for swelling in the feet! Thankyou! ❤️💕💕💕 I tease alot, but I do get serious also! Lol.
Thank you. This was incredibly informative and helpful.
These are all brilliant techniques and demonstrations, especially the one for the toes. Thanks for the careful step by step demonstrations and overall thoroughness of this video.

Thank you much! I suffer from swollen feet and ankles all the time.
Thank you
I use compression socks with pouches for each toe, just like gloves, and also five fingers shoes, it’s the best for me, very confortable.
I do however need a surgery done where they deflate your bad veins but my doctor won't do it until I lose some weight and that's my biggest goal right now is losing weight so did switching vegan help you
It's okay to have the feelings you're having. You had an unnecessary trauma I would like to apologize for the way you were treated even I wasn't involved I feel you need an apology.
You and I must be seeing the same DR.
@Sharon Thomas That giant drop story is amazing! It really worked that fast to get rid of the swelling???
Your doctor sounds useless though. What else did he recommend besides not eating pizza?
@@gloriaiarango Bananas are bad for you? I think you're right on the carbs though. My swelling got worse after eating pizza, lol
Thanks.
Good information about supplies, and techniques, for swelling reduction.
Need such good tips NOT just drugs only! 🙏💐🙏💐🙏!
Very helpful and easy to do. Excited to start using them.
I love those swell patches 👍🥳🤩 I have a bunch of different shapes of those from small to large. Great for reducing swellling and prevention of scar tissue after breast surgery.
I need this .Great idea. I will be doing this asap
Very good information I have this problem with my foot.
It would be really useful if the person speaking on this video would be kind enough to answer some of the many questions from viewers.
The tip about using foam to apply pressure under the bandage is great!
@@413smr I’ve got one of those too. But no way could I use it for compression stockings.
My first thought was Oh man, I bet that is hot 🔥🥵😁
Changing my diet ,, has helped a lot
Try drinking pine needles tea.
What does that help with
What did you eliminate that had the most noticeable positive effect? Did you eliminate one at a time?
I’m thinking I need to record in a journal when my ankles swell the most. Track what I ate during that time.

thanks for that tip for the top of your foot I find it so hard to target that area with just my compression socks alone I will add that to my stocking routine
You have amazing lessons here
Really helpful I’ve been strugling with guarments as I find they don’t fit propperly so this will be a good option when my feet are swollen tight.
Thank you for the suggestions around toe swelling... I've had the most stubborn swelling in the toes, and look forward to getting that addressed using this approach with the grey foam cut to size, and applied with the bandaging over the toes..
Very helpful and simple to do. I can't wait to try your ideas.

Thanks for sharing that. I did give up wheat but not sweets.
Thank you for these tips. I really need this advice
No matter what I did, it wouldn't heal & the swelling from the meds was the cause (duh)
I switched to another med & within 5 days, all of the swelling in my left leg/foot went away but it would still swell on my right because of the damage with that wound.
You're a blessing!😀

Thanks for this video ❤❤
