@Nzeexruos the dino jr sound from the early records is pure SS overdrive. i have a 10w sx guitar amp with built in overdrive that nails the early dino bass sound, it just doesnt have the balls because it has a tiny ass speaker. the sansamp i dont think really gets the same sound, its got a totally different vibe, almost ampegy. i used it because i didnt have anything else i could use, but it turned out quite well. alot of the sound comes from technique aswell. alex
@Nzeexruos hey dude thanks! yeah i know, i love lous bass playing so much! its a jetglo 4003, run into a sansamp bass driver straight into the board, no amp. i would record through my jcm800 but its dead right now.
@supabass4003 I've been playing with the upper-neck mega-Lou strums for a while, and it's always just been an issue with amps/pedals. I'm playing out of an SS 300 Watt Combo amp (Ampeg, but I'd rather run a JCM or a Peavey), but I've never been able to find a good guitar/bass pedal to give me that overdrive without sacrificing my low-end. I've heard some good things about the Marshall Gov'nr pedals, but I've never tried them out before.
@Nzeexruos yeah the technique is great once you master it because you can also work out how lemmy does it at the same time. i could never get the right sound from ampeg gear, its just not possible. im really not sure what pedals give that sound, but a good one i know is the VT british pedal or whatever its called, because its based off marshall distortion. you need to find an amp that has guitar like gain to it, and you need to push the preamp by just cranking every EQ.
@supabass4003 Thanks very much! I've been trying to get that sound for a couple of years now, and I haven't been able to afford a cab/Marshall head combo. Apart from a Sansamp, are there any other alternatives you'd recommend for capturing that Dino Jr. Bass sound?
Great cover, man! Good to finally see some Dino Jr. Bass covers for once; Lou's bassplaying is ridiculously underrated. BTW: Is that a Midnight Blue Ric, or a Jetglo? And what pedals are you running through your amp to get that dirgey, overdriven sound?
that bass line seriously makes me wanna cry whenever i hear it....so beautiful.
I know this is 10 years old, but that was a great job man. I need to learn this song too.
Thanks man, still very proud of this cover!
Lou barlow is a genius... No one can write basslines quite like him
Nearly 11 years old and this is an excellent cover. Really sweet playing dude, you totally nailed it.

Great cover! I learned how to play this song from you. Any tips on technique?
Fuckin awesome. Love it man
I think he used the Grabber on In a Jar and Kracked, and maybe Raisans... But In a Jar and Kracked for sure

Hey man! Just curious, what settings do you have your EQ at ? Bass, Middle, trebble etc! (as if it were a clockface)
great job! unlike on most videos, you keep the song volume low, so one can clearly hear what you're playing.
Hey so this cover shreds and I get it's almost 10 years old but I just want to know if you're in standard or drop d. It's a gorgeous bass line
Please do another dino cover with the rick
Great tone, I actually prefer this to the proper basstrack.
Hi what is lou barlow tuning for dinosaur jr
2:32-2:38, not the original but your arrangement which abbreviates Js solo, right? Nice either way
It is in the original
Cool vid man! Blasting tone you got there. Check out my Dino Cover with a Fender P.
