Theory: the Galder stones are crystallized "illusion" magic. Another, maybe unknown, aspect of this magic is to amplify other magic, "support magic" if you will. It is nothing real on its own, and why the stones do not amplify illusion magic. This is also why the fire glyph was very effective in this episode.
I don't think it's a totally unknown aspect of illusion magic. Remember Gus amplifying Willow's plant monster in the episode where the magic-eating monster attacks Hexside?
@@professionalcatgirl8592 Yeah, but I mean, they can technically. Luz can, and so can Gus! If you noticed, the galderstones actually powered Gus' fireball, making the rune more powerful then it would normally be! So I assume it can enhance most if not all magic, that even a human can use them through powering up their rune magic.
My main problem with Philip as Belos is, if Philip built the portal, why does Belos need to get it from Eda if he could, you know, build another one? My theory is that in 1600s, Titan's Blood leak pulls Philip into the Demon realm. Over the next decade or so, he manages to create a portal back to the Human realm, then uses it to go home, where he lives out his days. And as we saw with Eda when she first found the portal, the door *goes with him.* Flash forward to the early/mid 1900s, Someone, *probably* a descendant of Philip, though it doesn't have to be, discovers the portal in a locked chest or the attic or whatever and uses it to go to the Demon realm, maybe just because he's curious, maybe for more nefarious reasons. Anyway, upon arriving, he loses it, leaving him stranded. He then learns magic, with a tech-bent to compensate being human, and goes on to become Belos. He probably thinks at this point the portal is gone for good. The portal remains lost until Eda finds it about 30 years ago. Soon (?) after, Eda's "Human artifacts" business clues him into the fact that the portal still exists, and has been found! Now this explains where Belos comes from, makes him old - but not ridiculously so - and explains why, he now desperately needs it back for his "Day of Unity" project rather than just making another one. He didn't *build* it, but knows what it can *do.* Also, if his loss of the portal over fifty years ago had something to do with Wild Magic, that would go a long way to explaining his... antipathy towards it. Anywho, that's what I'm going with.
It could also be explained if the door contains/ was built out of an extremely rare or even unique component that Philip can't get another of (or an ingredient from the human world). That would also give an explanation for why he knows straight away how to fix the door.
As much as I love the Lumity kiss and Gus's progress in the episode, I love the Phillip Wittebane scene the most as the animation in that scene looks to be a reference to Lotte Reiniger, as she is known for using silhouettes in her animation.
Seeing Amity kiss Luz on the cheek, i was all *(Fanboy screams)* although i kinda can't believe that Amity made the first move, i mean that never happens but it felt so satisfying!!!

Here's a thought since edric and emira are also on the illusion track similar to gus their parents might have similar view on illusion track that was shown in the episode thats why they can do whatever they want without harsh punishment from odalia and alador but since amity is going with the Abomination magic which is seen a more useful (not shaming gus magic) that why there is more pressure on her to succeed and be associated with "proper" witches and become a coven head just my theory 😉 hope u like it
and also how her parent's company is abomination based so there's more pressure for her!! and both parents have shown desire for having her be an important person in the Boiling Isles
I like to think of the stones as a theater term called “checkoff’s gun” where if something important is introduced in act 1, it has to be used in act 2
I think illusions coven can possibly be the most deadly type of magic as if someone really wanted to do damage ,they can easily conjure up a scary it traumatizing illusion that break someone's mind
My friend showed up to school yesterday with bright purple hair and as soon as I saw them I screamed. We then proceeded to talk about most recent episode which caused them to start pacing up and down the hall in shock
Waiiiit 13:40 just made something click in my brain aaaaah!! If Belos actually turns out to be Phillip Wittebane, and can't just return to the human realm bc magic doesn't work there and he'd die, is that why he's so fixated on the day of unity? To bring the human world home to him, but still have the magic of the boiling isles sustaining him? Feel free to poke holes in my theory, this discussion is super interesting to me! I can't wait to find out more about Belos's scheme and why he hates wild magic so much. Thank you for the awesome content, i love the detail you go into about the palismans in your hunting palismen video!
The one problem with this episode is that, just as literally everyone expected, Gus’s plot was overshadowed by Luz and Amity’s. Now, I love Lumity just as much as anyone else, and I’m still recovering from the excitement-induced trauma I experienced when Amity kissed Luz on the cheek, but you can’t deny that a large part of the fandom ONLY cares about Lumity. That’s kind of weird, like come on, we love it because we care about the characters and the story of the show, and if it was literally what the show was about it wouldn’t have the same impact. Even positive representation needs to be balanced out a little.
I actually think they did a really good job with Gus’s storyline in this one! I didn’t really care a lot about Gus in season 1 because I didnt feel like they really gave him the opportunity to shine as his own standalone character. But this episode gave him soooo much more depth to his character, and I was SO HAPPY to see Gus finally in the spotlight for a change. I loved the Gus plot just as much as I loved the Lumity kiss - just my opinion, of course!!! 🥰🥰🥰
@@WhitneyVision I was surprised to find myself a tad more invested in Gus’s storyline than Luz and Amity’s this episode (not that theirs wasn’t good too). Hopefully other characters can get this kind of development soon!
I’ve always assumed it was Belos himself who ordered the Galdur Stones to be hidden away and appointed the Illusion Coven to guard them. He’s already the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles and so he has no interest in the stones, but certainly doesn’t want anyone else to get them and threaten his rule. He probably could’ve destroyed them, but maybe decided to keep them around in case if he does need them after all. And he didn’t want them in his castle since the temptation would be too great for some of his coven goons, so he chose to have the Illusionists safeguard them since, well you already know why.
Once I was able to call down and stop squeeing from the big Lumity moment I got excited again knowing your episode breakdown was coming. Thanks for not making us wait too long🤗🤗🤗
I wonder if the echo mice would make the harry potter books better movies than what we already got (fans of the 4th book and ginny's character development rejoice)
I'm not one to be into ships but I had to hold myself from screaming when that that happened. And yes the lore of this episode was amazing and Gus getting character development is a good thing but let's be real here most people are going to Walk away from this episode happy because of the lumity tease.
ok but if Belos is the human (Philip) why wouldn't he already have the portal and the key if he built it himself? and what is the day of the "Union" he wants so much? but there are also points that favor him being Philip. his hair is very similar and his voice with the accent and even the timbre is very similar. and he could be feeding on palismans to live 421 years. I just don't understand how he lost the portal when he built it himself. and maybe Belos didn't steal the stones from the graveyard out of respect for the dead and because maybe he has another kind of rudiment to extend the spells, or even he doesn't even need them. AND DAMN GIRL LUMITY IN THIS EP...SOOO GAY

My theory states Belos and Philip are two separate entities, they're not related in anyways. Belos's body type is different and huge compared to Philip's body which is a fair body type, But my theory gets a bit darker on Philip's fate. There's no denying that giant monster is Belos from the mural same with the trailer, At some point King's father defeated the Giant Belos then he got weakened. People keeps saying That possession is the answer but possession doesn't alter the physiques of an individual, So I Speculate that Belos took Philip's body and amalgamated with his body against Philip's will, Belos was week so he needed a fresh body then fused with Philip's body that's why Belos still has his Physique and abilities along with his consciousness while having most of Philip's appearances like with his hair and his voice and the way he talks, Its pretty dark to think about fusing into a one body against your will, This is just a theory though.
I predict that at the end of the owl house, witches and wizards will be able to learn all sorts of magic. But I’m can get a theory about the human from the 1600s please?
I think, maybe they will even use glifs like Eda and Lilth now. Maybe it will help young witches learn more. I wonder how they will overthrow Belos and establishe new laws
Just curious - how do the galder stones differ from the construction coven power glyphs we saw in covention? Are they just a more powerful version of that? Prob gonna find out in the future with more lore around them?
I do think we’re going to find out more about em!!! But this is a common thing I’ve seen a lot of people saying, so I’m sure Dana and co will address it in a future ep 🥰
The only reason that I don't think Belos is Phillip specifically is that Phillip is Right-Handed because we see him writing in the diary with IT and Belos seems to be left-handed because he was using a srewdriver with His left Hand in a Drawing from Dana
Belos is the son of Philip and was born into the magical world without his own magic. Belos then made a deal with some dark deity to gain magic. The same deity that the Titans and King’s father fought long ago. All he had to do was invade the human world and let the deity take control of it. Philip found out what his son was doing and hid the door from him. Belos subjugated magic and created an army so the dark deity can take control of both world on the day of unity.
11:36 fun fact: in Mycenaean Greece, they worshipped Chthonic gods before all others, and Poseidon had the epithet of "earth shaker" which probably meant he was a god of the underworld (there was no Mycenaean equivalent of Hades that we know of so for all we knew he didn't exist till after the record-less dark age). in fact, this made Poseidon higher than Zeus (a sky god) and by default was recognized as the King of the Gods so technically this could still refer to Phillip = Belos since it alludes to a high king (an Emperor if you would lol)
Btw by mentioning the philosipher stone. In german they translated the movie harry potter und der stein der Weisen. So witte also could mean for the wise one
If Bellos and Whitebane had the same VA then I'd go ahead and say Human Bellos was soft confirmed. This doesn't seem to be the case, so it's still highly possible but far from certain. If he IS Phillip, though, then using that 'Phillips' screwdriver in the promo picture is A+++ foreshadowing. Note, though, that Phil's portal seems to have been buried in the Clawthorne family back yard. This opens up the possibility that Phillip is a distant ancestor of Eda and Lilith -- it would explain how their great-great whatever Grandmother knew him -- she was related to him! As for Bellos, I think we need to look at this with regards how his motivations could parallels Luz's situation. Maybe he's a Creepy-Phillip style duplicate, who is still trying to fulfil his old original copy's objective of making it back home? Or a friend or loved-one of Phillip or some other human, who was separated but is trying to see them again despite being unaware of how much time has passed. My money's still on him being an outsider from a 3rd, even more alien dimension, but none of these theories incorporate his associate with the Titan, so who knows at this point?
Honestly, I don’t go with the Rountable’s theory on Belos being a Lich, but ngl it would’ve been really dope if he really was Philip Wittebane and became a witch-like entity
My theory is convoluted, so I'm going for bullet points here. -The giant heart above Belos's throne is the Titan's heart (and/or bile sac). That it is still beating suggests the dead titan is, in the words of Miracle Max, only MOSTLY dead. -Belos living on the titan's heart implies a symbiotic or parasitic relationship between the titan and Belos. I lean toward parasitism because the show isn't being very subtle about Belos's government being allegorical of real-world authoritarianism, but I can't rule out that titan and Belos need each other. -Titan's blood causes rifts between realms, so it's reasonable to assume at least some of the titan's blood is on Earth. -Blood is probably pretty important to keeping the titan's heart beating. It's a magical demon, so that's not a given, but it's not a gigantic logical leap. Therefore: Belos, who may be a symbiont but is probably a parasite, is trying to get to the human realm to get titan's blood to feed on. Further, the titan only being MOSTLY dead may be why magic is possible at all; because the titan still has enough life force to fuel magic. If so, it's possible that the use of magic burns up the titan's remaining life. Belos probably instituted the coven system as a means of control, but he also may have done so to limit the amount of magic being used, to conserve what's left, which would make the mythology about how covens honor the titan a half-truth rather than a blatant lie. A desire to conserve a diminishing magical resource might also explain his reliance on technology. I make a couple of big assumptions in there, but if they bear out, I think this all makes sense.
What if Belos is/was human but is now physically unable to return to the human realm. Either because of his age and/or because he is possessed by the spirit of the Titan (which can take over his body as potentially seen in the trailer), he can't go back through the portal anymore. Perhaps the only way to return home is to merge the demon and human realms in the 'Day of Unity' (maybe this is even untrue and a lie fed to him by the Titan).
7:54 somehow this might be a stupid theory but u can see the red book their it looks like it from a journal of gravity falls then in 3 or 4 seconds the book is gone just you can see the book disappeared

so technically this could still refer to Phillip = Belos since it alludes to a high king (an Emperor if you would lol)
Oh hellllllllll yeah!!!!!!! Tell me all that ancient history, I love it!
Lumity shippers we won
There the only shippers
All the other died
I don't really think you were ever going to lose since it was the creators intention since the start
I wonder if illusion spells can power other spells
Amity blush lvl im over 9000 !!
0:55 there are other shows like ok ko let's be heros, Steven universe, the loud house, advenger time
Mattholomule x Gus?
think about ittttttt
I’d kinda like to see a romance between Gus and bartholamule just me or no because like that would be so cute
Luv ur channel keep it up
i am the only one who sees a similarity with philip and the face of the golden guard?
Honestly, I don’t go with the Rountable’s theory on Belos being a Lich, but ngl it would’ve been really dope if he really was Philip Wittebane and became a witch-like entity
Bira: i know it's not real!
Gus: i dont think you know whats real Bira
Look, we all know Luz is bi, but clearly Amity knows what it’s like to WASH HER HANDS IN MILK.
Why milk
?
whuh? is this a dirty expression??? you know shes 14 right?
@@benbee9441 It’s not a dirty expression. It’s exactly what it says
@@DigiRangerScott sorry could you explain ? Did you mean like amity is clearly gay.
The gate where Eda finds the portal looks like the Looking Glass Ruin’s Gate
Ghost Electric with levitate is Rotom
Maybe Belos is the human and is consuming the essence of witches and is a titan cyborg. Thanks Whitney.
I believe Amity's new hair color is called *LILAC* - the color is innocence and childhood. Clearly things Amity was depraved of.
*gulp* Puppet Strings may refer to the Titan's Corpse.
Ive watched the clip of the Lumity kiss nearly a hundred times and I will watch it a hundred more
7:54 somehow this might be a stupid theory but u can see the red book their it looks like it from a journal of gravity falls then in 3 or 4 seconds the book is gone just you can see the book disappeared
big love whitney
No one:
Luz: *bites lip * 😳
Bellows could be the author’s brother because the case that eda trips on it scratched could have been a fight
Did anyone notice the background change in the diary visual??
Bria said she did not like Angmar who was chasing butterflies.
What if this is foreshadowing for Odalia not really loving Alador? Just a theory.
the iron man joke is my favourite
Didnt bump kick (for lack of a better word) gus out of the human club thing at the end of something ventured someone framed or was he let back in later idk ill just use it as an excuse to watch more owl house
What’s the point of the Gallder stones? There’s already power glyphs, which are smaller and more convenient.
I think we’re going to learn more about them as the series goes on! There’s gotta be a reason why they don’t directly impact illusionist magic right???
@@WhitneyVision - There isn’t really much to empower there.
I’m still interested how the Azura books got washed away
We al thought since the trailer that Bria was a love interest for gus
With the blush counter there was 1 in Gus plot
If I had one of them mice I would make them eat all my fanf books .
Fetch on v i d e o
The stones shouldn't be used by anyone. They're there to honor the dead.
If gus can create words out illusions can he also produce functioning glyphs
It just got real
0:43 ME
I guess we can now call the series "the blush house"
he's a mechanicous people I'm telling you
I think Belos left the stones alone because he just doesn't need them. Why bother when you've got bigger fish to fry?
Guuuuuuuuussssssssss, my dude, my bro, my main man, my homeslice breadslice. Illusions aren’t limited to just visuals but can affect all five of our senses my brofessor.
Lol this made me laugh
this show is so good it became the second disney show to be imported to hell (whether disney knows it or not)
Well Lumity shippers are happy and Willuz shippers are sad.
When you realize that the Gus story was meant to be the A-plot....
... I'm still waiting for that
I found out there is only going to be three seasons me and the only episodes were going to get in season three are three I don’t know if it’s true or not
Yeah, sadly Owl House is locked in to the typical Disney model of three seasons 😢
@@WhitneyVision I feel so lucky you replied😁
is it only me that ship Mattholomule with Gus now? like gus even called him Matty and they smiled at each other and its the enemies to rivals to lovers arc for me.
I hope some art of them is made by fan artists.
I don’t think Philip left behind I think Bellos attacked him that’s why There’s a crack on the portal
This episode shows us you can't judge a book by its cover we all got those glennis kids are really cool people but in the end they're not and Matt is the one is kind of reasonable
Fav thing about this episode: luz speaking Spanish, my afro Latine heart ❤️
And just everything about Gus I was ready to fight cartoon children when they were making fun of illusion magic and basically him
Also wondering how epic Gus with Ed and Em doing illusion magic could be
And ofc asexual lesbian me was glad for lumity kiss
Everyone be taking about Lumity and Gus but no one be talking about Amity with her hair down and dyed pink later.
