If it's multiple diesels, it's typically referred to as a "Lash-Up". If they're separate in the train, then they're either DPU's (Distributed Power Units) or manned helpers.
The "rock" and rock island locomotives in the beginning reference an old railroad known as the Rock Island Railroad, those locomotives were just different paint schemes or "liveries" that the railroad had over the decades it was operational.
The word “header” is usually only a term for steam locomotives as what’s known as a “lash-up” is common with diesels. If there are more locomotives in the train they are called DPUs or Helpers. It was very rare on steam locomotives to be a Helper. In the UK a Helper is called a “Banker”.
Frantic I've watched your rolling line videos since day one and after months and months of begging for my birthday my grandma bought me rolling line and I downloaded your map thank you I'm going to start making rolling line videos just like you do thank you thank you frantic and the next game I want to get is stormworks so if we can play multiplayer when I get StormWorks I would be happy to do that I a great fan Landon PS it's spelled with a y l a n d y n
Hey Frantic I was wondering if you could check out this layout that I made called Paranapicaba Old Version Completed 1.0. It's a really cool and big layout that is a completed version of an older build of the official Paranapiacaba layout that had a steel mill section.
I think some of this layout is loosely based on Blue Island, IL. Also I have to say that 2 of the engines on this map actually still exist in real life as part of the Illinois Railway Museum, CRI&P(the rock as you called it) 4506 and CNW 1518(the third engine on the yellow and green lashup)
When you're having multiple locomotives in the front and their diesels I think they go by units so ABC for steam engines it's double triple header or more

Yes having multiple locomotives at the front is common in the USA
4:57 We call them lashups for diesels.
That is a 3 unit lashup
Finally more rolling line!

oh ya i found that once, thanks for telling the story
Nice video again Frantic, keep it up!
Yes Frantic feels my pain were trains are none stop and constantly blaring their horns.

I agree! I was at the street near the 5 bridges a few months ago taking some drone footage. Right about here: maps.app.goo.gl/iLGMgpueCKB3PGNt8
Frantic if you go inside the The Rock train if you hold down caps lock the horn becomes longer
The locomotives are both gp40-2 and sd40-2 highhood

2 me USA
Only a and b units and thats more so when referring to F unit style locomotives. Though there are some b units today.
We call it a triple headers
