Just another awesome painting with that impressionistic style that I love. Excellent explanation too, your videos are really fantastic Tim. Thank you very much.
Hi Tim Lovely painting process inspired in a city beach from my island. Gran Canaria. A good place to play with contrast, clouds, sunshine, etc Thanks to use this scene. Roberto
I shudder to think of the overworked mess I would have made of those distant buildings. I am very impressed at how a few lines and dots convey them nicely.
Hello Sir, just a technical question: why are you using Alizarin Crimson + Neutral Tint for the shadows and not Ultramarine Blue + Neutral Tint instead? I mean, shadows are usually painted blue in traditional en plain air watercolor but the effect you get with purple is truly amazing. How do you choose when using purple or blue in shadows rendering? How do you choose the right color of the shadows? Thank you so much, I really fell in love with your work and learning a lot day after day. Andrea from Italy.
Maybe my choice is just partly instinct and partly experimentation. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I do think more about warms and cools though now more than I did many years ago. Thanks Andrea. I have two workshops in Italy this year - Padua April and Tuscany October
Thanks, Tim, for your demonstrations. I continue to battle with the twin temptations of too much detail and the self-defeating attempt to maintain too much control over the washes, once applied. You have helped me with both of these problems and I can see the difference in my work. So I'm very grateful. I notice that you use Alizarin Crimson. There is something of a controversy about it. One suggestive quote, "Alizarin Crimson is considered fugitive or marginally lightfast, and the appropriateness of its use in the modern artist palette is a subject of debate. "' I wonder what you, as a practicing artist, think about this and wonder, too, why you don't use the so-called permanent substitutes? I look forward to your next posts. I pounce as soon as I notice a new one is up. The quote is from the Blick online catalog but may originate with Winsor-Newton. www.dickblick.com/items/00319-3062/#colorpigments

Tim, no need to apologise for the glare. It's very useful for showing how wet the paper is.
Thanks Hertog. Difficult with the camera position
Hi is your paper cold press or rough?
NOT
The photo really captured all of the values? Do you use an iPhone or a dedicated camera?

Hi, is it Las Canteras beach?
Yes
living in las palmas?
Unfortunately no. An occasional visitor
Adore your work, but feel that perhaps the top right hand corner looked a little unresolved? A little faint shoreline would have helped.
Really good idea. Thanks Lawrie
my thanks, at what age did you start painting?
4
Beautiful work, thank you for sharing. What brand and sizes are your mop brushes?

Thanks David. Not aware of the controversy but I use it to warm up the greys. I don't think I use the permanent variety
