    My sweatbands get soaked every time I work outside in the summer. I always get a size bigger than my head size and let the hat shrink down to my head. Takes a little while but it's worth it. Also, people pay extra for that dirt. Wear it with pride! I've got dirty old hats to wear while working and shiny new ones to wear when I wanna look a little nicer. Just depends on where I'm going.

    Love Cowboy hats. Even here in ND, you don't see them much anymore. They have to have them funny baseball hats. Still have 2 or 3 around here. You never know, they may come back. 350

    Seratelli makes a great hat. In fact, they used to make the raw bodies for both Stetson and Resistol, but they eventually just started producing their own finished product. American Hats have come a long way, and are a good hat as well.

    Well I love cowboy hats.. I perfer the pinch front hats myself. The one I have is a Stetson wool blend. I paid $80 for it and to my surprise it's held up very well. I've beat the hell out of the thing and managed to get it soaked a few times in storms and even lost it it in a river once..have a good day Mr Holster.. 350

    Well, I'm more confused but more educated. Good video. I have a hand made leather hat by Sterkowski that I got because I'm out in the rain a lot. I used otter wax on it, but I haven't put it to the test yet. I don't know how it compares to good felt. 350.

    Stetson and Resistol advertise separately but are one company called Hatco. 4X are great beaters.

    Regarding dating Stetson hats. Prior to 1960 the size tag was round. Prior to around 1955 Stetson only printed the fractional portion of the size so 7 1/4 appeared as 1/4 without the 7 in front. Around 1960 Stetson changed from round to rectangular size tags, so that indicates you are correct and your Stetson 50 is from the 1960s. Starting around 1970 Stetson included the size in centimeters in addition to the traditional size indicator. While it is easy to date hats made before 1970 by the size tag, you have to use the liner and sweatband to date Stetson hats made after 1970.

    Hatco make Stetson, Resistol and Charlie 1 Horse, but still, there's not much uniformity to the X factor. I have an older Tyler model by Stetson I like, but a few others in my closet. My Favorite is a Cindy Bowling, out of Oklahoma. And shaping seems to be a lost art, good episode Mr. Holster. Apply for moneitization for this video. It should be within the realm of the reviewers.

    you are saying that six x beaver to the remaining rabbit fur is more resistant to the ten x and then you say that the higher the x is greater... I am lost because paid 500$ for my 60/40 hat. I do know about la mina de Oro. I have purchased many hats and trust the beaver variety although I don't care about certain names . I believe in things having a use and if it doesn't work well it just doesn't work .Also la Joya is a hat worth wearing.

    • @MrHolster
      @MrHolster  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has been a long while since I made this video. The mixture of beaver fur and rabbit make a sturdier hat due to the different barbs on the hairs and the better hold its provides the hairs. The beaver fur is more expensive and makes a more water repellent lighter hat so is graded higher and costs more. All depends upon the desired use of the hat as to what you want is what I was trying to express here I think. ( Again it has been almost 2 years since I made this video.) There is no standard for a rating system and I would not be surprised if many manufacturers do not grade their own product consistently. A 6X hat from one manufacturer may be overpriced at 100 dollars while a 6X from another at 500.00 may be a steal. One individual may be happy with a wool hat for his needs while some one working cattle may want an expensive mixture hat that will stand up to abuse, another may want a Resistol Beaver rabbit blend and replace it regularly or someone else may only want it for church on Sunday and require the most expensive Beaver cashmire blend 100x Stetson they can find. I think what I was trying to do in this video is give a basic background in run of the mill cowboy hats and a little slight history in 15 minutes but again it has been a long time since I made it. Thanks for Watchin'
