The first was used by the Spanish territories between 1701-1771 and 1793 ...
The territories that constitute the Equatorial Guinea was ceded by Portugal to Spain through two treaties in 1777 and 1778 ... At the time, the flag was another one...
The second was the national flag of Spain between 1785-1872 and 1875-1931 ... Equatorial Guinea gained independence in 1968... One more, the national flag of Spain was another one...

Well, no wonder Turkmenistan named that crater the Gate of Hell. In Finland, there’s also a lake called Helvetinjärvi, meaning ”Lake of Hell”, and the crater looks way more hell-ish than the lake.

Hey Barby, that's not actually the "portuguese empire" flag as it contains the castilla y leon crest. I believe it is the former flag of the spanish central american empire aka former Mexico and Central America.
that flag isn't from the Iberian union flag, the Iberian flag was a mix of both Portuguese and Spanish coats of arms

By the way, when you speak about the portuguese flag there is some controversial about the colours. Because Portugal never had green and red in their background, was always blue, white or both. There are some people who defend to change the current colours, like me.
You and me, red and green are the colours of the Carbonária, not of the of the country, blue and white are the colours of Portugal even before independance, in the county of Portucale, they don't represent exclusively the monarchy as many were led to believe. the current flag even has some Iberian Union undertones, as seen by the uneven porportions of the colours, green represented Portugal (colour of the house of Braganza) and red, Spain.
As for the armillary sphere, historically, only represented two things in heraldry, the personal banner of king D. Manuel I and the principality/kingdom of Brazil, even in the flag of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves, the sphere was used to represent the kingdom of Brazil. A Cross of Christ would represent much better the discoveries.

It's a good design, but I think it would work better as a coat of arms, it's a little too complex to be a flag (another problem I have with the current flag), a flag should have all its elements distinguishable from afar and to prevent misrepresentation (like using towers instead of castles on the shield).

But like Germany, we could have two flags. One with a coat of arms and the other without. Just a white background with a blue cross like the first flag of Portugal.
Ahah, different people, different tastes, but it's good have more ideas, i would like to see a New Zealand style flag referendum in Portugal, you would have a lot of joke enteries, but also some very good alternitives to the current. unfortunatelythe constitution doesn't allow it and the people aren't that motivated in this subject.
As for the 2 flag system, i think it could work, but i think no matter the design, i think the quinas should always be included. Maybe in a design inspired on the flag proposal of Alfredo Pinto da Silva or António Augusto Maceira's.
As a side note, it's a common misconception, but the national animal of Portugal isn't a dragon, it's a wyvern (Serpe em português), it doesn't have arms, just 2 legs and 2 wings.

Barby after you finish the main geography now series you should do one on all the major provincial or well known areas like the Åland Islands Greenland (unless you did that separate from Denmark when you reach g) and micro nations
