WOW!!!!JAWDROPPINGLY GREAT!!! along with jack white, ryan's the most important artist of his generation!!!! i love his music!!!seen him in manchester this week & was blown away!!! he's awesome!!
I'm a huge Alice in Chains fan, and I love this cover of Down in a Hole. He did it justice by keeping what made it worth listening to in the first place, but delivering it with his own style. Well done.
no i still think it is, because the foloow the lights ep isn't with only studio recordings, theyre called cardinals version. so i'm not sure, but i really think so i guess.
Yes the origanal version has everything you said-but this is a COVER! I think it's a great tune for him to cover and did you happen to notice the great conviction with which he sang it? Come on man!
oh ok so maybe they used this recording then on the album? that's cool. I haven't heard that EP before? did it just come out or something? cuz I know the songs they're playing are off his newest album Easy Tiger, so it must've been done pretty recently.
Actually, Jerry Cantrell wrote the lyrics and music for Down In A Hole. Guess it was about depression. It sure seems like it was Layne's life story song though, huh? RIP Layne
sorry but nobody can sing down in a hole like Layne he wrote this while suffering through his heroin addiction and I just don't think Ryan caught that feeling though he has been there in life. When Alice in Chains does this unplugged it can bring you to tears if you have lived that lifestyle which I unfortunately did. Still though I'm not a hater Ryan is an amazing musician!
please dont ever say this is better than the original ...shhhh Ryan is good in his own right for someone who sounds like any other joe shmoe, dont ever compare him to layne
Its still Jerry's song and Layne knew it. Watch the Unplugged. Layne stops singing near the end to let Jerry shine. Down in a Hole is still Jerry's pain and heartbreak.
Their Down in a Hole cover was weak. It lost all the grittiness that makes that song so great. Also, the acoustic guitar player just plays the chords, not the actual notes. And it is not the same without the electric guitar soloing over the acoustic.
First up, why can't you compare the cover to the original? Who cares what they've done to it... you can compare it. I like the original version better than this. There, I just compared it. Second, Down in a Hole is not a metal song by any stretch of the imagination.

I never realized how compassionate Bryan Adams was... much respect.

man that just shows you how powerfully awesome layne staley was

The song is in Bb, and he plays cross-harp, so that means its an Eb harmonica.
Is Andy Dick playing slide? Just trolling on through...love my Mr. Adams
hey hey, i want him! lol but honestly who would even think about his friends when hes around??? OW!
@taparoo101 Ryan Adams first. Look for the original recording in a cafe. He wrote that song the same day. Long live Ryan Adams. Frikin genius!
@alisue18 but come pick me up is ryans song.
exactly lol
Is this the version on "Follow the Lights"? Sounds pretty close.
Actually, Jerry Cantrell wrote the lyrics and music for Down In A Hole. Guess it was about depression. It sure seems like it was Layne's life story song though, huh? RIP Layne
Is this the same down in a hole that's on Follow the Lights?
the three people who dislike this probably listen to lady gaga.
Then blog about it.
what is cross harp man?
what are the tabs?

Yeah, for real. No I'm not stoned!
why is it censored?
Pedal steel guitar...(@luthierjustin)
I think it's Jon Graboff. Andy Dick is more of a talker in my experience. Oh, and not a Cardinal.
okay, I thought Ryan was the original for this song... who is??
no need a good quality video when audio is like that
This song never sounded so good...
haha, he left the "come fuck me" up and "full of shit" out of the song :D
RYAN RYAN RYAN NOT BRYAN
Well, Neal's not too shabby! ;)
I'm with ya, though...hard to imagine screwing darling ryan over.
Jerry might have written it but Layne made it a classic with his voice. Thanks to both of them for this song and the many other great AIC songs.
Its still Jerry's song and Layne knew it. Watch the Unplugged. Layne stops singing near the end to let Jerry shine. Down in a Hole is still Jerry's pain and heartbreak.
yeah plus he'd write a million songs about how you screwed him over lol.

He messed it up so much...i really dont like it but its just my opinion ..
