I’m a 77-year-old guy who saw Janis live at the Fillmore in San Francisco in 1967. She is iconic. She will always have a “piece of my heart.” Love you guys!!
I'm so envious! My mom was born in 1964 but I grew up watching 60-80s media with my grandparents. Janis is the one person I wish I could have seen above everyone else.
No one ever sang the rock and roll blues like her, and no one ever will. Janis left a piece of her soul on EVERY stage she performed on. She was a TREMENDOUS talent. All she wanted was love and acceptance, and sadly she tried to find it in a needle, and at the bottom of a bottle.
Janis would be so stoked to know that 52 years after her death (that’s insane!) that she still blows people away with her voice and that she’s still so loved. Thank you guys for keeping Janis’s memory alive 💕
The cracks, flaws, whatever you want to call them, is what made Janis's voice so uniquely perfect for the Blues. NO ONE has ever come even close to Janis, and there will never ever be another like her.
That song was Janis screwing around at the end of the day, at the recording studio. The next day they found her dead. That is why you just hear her clapping ,and no other instrument.
Oh Amber, there is no need to apologize for your tears. You both are reacting and this is your pure, honest, heart-felt feelings. Janis was an unbelievable talent and so loved for so long and will be for a lot longer as long as we have people like you two. Thank you both for your work on this channel. It is a pleasure to watch.
She was bullied extremely in high school and college. She showed them up. She was a pure heart. She loved her fans. When On a talk show with Raquel Welch complained about a fan. Janis said. I love my people. They just want to be loved. Everyone wants to be loved. She had tears welling up. My mom adored her Before my time but I see why she was loved. We lost her to heroin at 27. Very sad.
One of her classmates was Jimmy Johnson, two-time Super Bowl winner as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys and currently a TV football analyst/commentator. Whether he was involved in the bullying/degrading, I don't know.
This was one of my favorite reaction videos because I have been watching how hard they are falling for Janis and knowing this song so well I was waiting for those key moments where she takes it out of this world. I am so happy you did the reaction for this song because now you can listen to it on repeat until each note is etched in your soul
And that is very sad, because I've always thought she was just so naturally beautiful. Not only her spirit, but physically. So many women pile on makeup trying to be "beautiful" and they will never hold a candle to her natural beauty.
I see on this and other people's reaction videos so many who think Janis was so beautiful. They see her soul and her natural beauty that those of her time did not. Imagine if Janis could have seen how many of the younger generation think she is beautiful and love her for herself.

Guys I’m with you! Those breaks aren’t mistakes. That’s someone literally giving you everything they’ve got. Janis sang liked she lived her too short life with passion and abandon and it was absolutely beautiful. ❤️
@Angel Leach You sure got that right! I'm catching up with this video today which is Thursday... And I see that you posted two days ago. The day before you posted your comment was actually the anniversary of Janis death in 1970. I still can't believe it's been that long. Everybody credits Janis and rightly so, because her voice is amazing. But give a little credit to the band Big Brother and the Holding Company as well.
@@tombeyerlein3813 Big mistake. I think she was pressured into it by the record company or producer or something. Maybe if they had stayed together....it's sad

I though that unique and powerful Janis wail 7:34 would never get here. Your reaction was exactly what I thought it would be. I knew that would hit the depths of your souls. Janis' voice and spirit will live in forever.
sometimes when I watch your reactions to these videos with classic rock artists I wonder how much you two would have enjoyed seeing these artists live in concert 30 years ago like I did. It was an intensely awesome experience. And of course, the whole world was different then too.
Great song to memorialize Janis with…she was amazing. I know a guy who got to see her live and he said it was like an out of body experience, she was so good. He has been to many concerts and said he had never had that feeling before or after.
Thank you for honoring Janis Joplin's memory I went back and listened to all of your Janis Joplin reactions and it was really a trip thank you so much may your path Always rise up to greet you!
One of my favorite songs by Janis was Summertime which was originally in Porgy and Bess, Janis was a one of a kind beautiful voice. You could truly feel her soul and the pain. She had so much emotion in her voice you could almost feel it.
Suggesting Bonnie Raitt “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Bringing it down but hits the heart too. Even Prince covered it too. Thanks for Female Friday’s!! 💗✨🤪
@@cometogether999 CT! Aren’t Jay & Amber awesome! And I was waiting for that part of this Janis track when she wails. Watching Amber’s face was everything. And yes, Bonnie sings it like she means it. I’ve felt that. What can you do? 🤷🏻♀️ There are some relationships where you love more ... and some where they love more. I don’t know which is better or worse. Haha. Good to see you again. RIP Janis - LOVED this track and reaction, right?!! ✨🤪
Love my fellow Texan and her beautiful vocals. She grew up in Port Arthur, Texas , the town next to where I grew up, she's just special to me. My favorite from her is "Ball and Chain" live from Monterrey. Kickass performance !!! 🥰
The images of Janis smiling, laughing, and full of joy contrast with the pain and heartbreak that we know she felt. And that contrast drives her performances to make her the apex of blues shouters like Big Mama Thornton and others.
She was a true voice of her generation and one of a kind :). I don't know if you've ever reacted to Leonard Cohen, but one of the sweetest songs he ever wrote is called Chelsea Hotel #2. I saw an interview with him and he said he was sitting alone at a bar when it came on the news that Janis Joplin had died, and after a moment of shock, he took out a pen and wrote this song on a cocktail napkin. "I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel..". I love it just knowing its a tribute to her written when she died. here it is if you're even interested in listening to it (not necessarily for a reaction!) th-cam.com/video/WmbFZA16nrE/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=LeonardCohenVEVO
You are two of the most intelligent and good hearted people.. love your deep well thought out reactions to the music we grew up with, much success to you both.
I remember the first time I heard Janis I thought ''that's not singing - that's something else''. All these years later - it's still something else - and it goes just as deep.
Just imagine Jordan....If you didn't decide to start reacting and then bringing Amber in she wouldn't have discovered Janis and you wouldn't have discovered Barry and SRV. Also know that you will find other artists that you will also fall in love with. Music is everything to me personally and holds our memories and makes us feel
It isn’t a happy song, you don’t have to force yourself to be happy. This IS the blues. She is having her heart ripped out. No one sings it like Janis. She’s so transparent, owns her life, the mess of it.
Oh mama you made me cry a little bit when you cried. I'm so happy to have you discover her and pass it down to your kids. It's like watching magic in motion. Another little ear gets to hear a fierce, strong woman and hopefully take good things away from it. Janis will live forever!
I have loved Janis since I first heard her in '68. The absolute joy you two give me when you react to her is just unreal. Thank you for loving and spreading her unmatched talent. You make me smile. Every single day.
I saw Janis Joplin in August 1969 at the Blossom Music Center. The tickets were a high school graduation gift from my parents. How cool was that? BTW, Janis drank 2 bottles of Southern Comfort that night while on stage and she kept right on singing, while I drank 6 beers and was hammered by the end. Good Times.
Amber…i absolutely LOVE your reactions to JANIS. You’re SO a hippie. :-) This might be the most authentic reaction channel on YT. You and J really stretch your awareness and perception. It’s incredibly refreshing and completely legit. Often when I’m a little down I watch this channel and it never ceases to lift me up. Thanks so much for what you guys do.
what a beautiful legacy, teaching your children to embrace such legends, gifting these songs, the musical histories and the life and times of these artist to the next generation; Simply beautiful
That’s rasp and crackle is what makes her fantastic. It’s not perfect but it’s real. Not been perfect makes it perfect. Real passion and heart. ❤️ go Janice. I’m so happy you understand her. 🥰
So amazing to see the younger generation recognizing and loving our Queen Janis. I listened to this song in eighth grade and was mesmerized by her talent and tenacity.
Jamis's voice - can you imagine what would happen today if Janis was new to the scene? The idiots in the studio would insist on putting it through AutoTune, and would totally destroy what she was - un-f'n believable and unique.
There is still some talent in today’s music but it’s so hard to find, so few and far between. That’s why I like my old rock music. Lyrics could be deep, talent was evident.
No, auto-tune is used today because record companies prefer what a singer looks like over what they sound like and because so many of them can't sing they HAVE to use auto-tune.
Imagine what they'd do to her on one of those TV talent shows today... (I'm not sure which would be worse, if they rejected her outright, or they took her on and sanitised her image and sound into something safely mainstream /commercial')
@@vandergod Have you listened to Pink's acoustic version of Me and Bobby McGee... absolutely brilliant! The Petersons is a bluegrass family group (very talented musicians) from Branson, Missouri USA. I especially love: *The Scientist (cover) *Fields of Gold (cover) *Swallowtail jig (they have toured Ireland) Another one to look out for is Allie Sherlock, a very talented 16 year old busker from Ireland... she has done many great covers... you need to check out her performance of Valerie (Amy Winehouse)...one of my favourites by her...
Janis moves everyone to tears with her voice. Legit. Her heart is in each note...this song is amazing. But you'll cry even more if you listen to the lyrics.
Thank you for honoring my girl Janis on this, the anniversary of her passing. I remember it well...the almost disbelief that it could be so. And then the crushing sadness. I idolized her in those days, listening to her every word belted out with such emotion. I was blessed to have the opportunity to see her perform in an intimate setting. She was indeed a one of a kind gift. ❤️🔥❤️
On Dick Cavett's talk show after a great performance and great applause from the audience, before Janis was about to shortly attend the class reunion of her old hometown class and school and at the peak of her enormous success and fame...Janis said "they laughed me out of my class, my school, my town and the state...and bullied her back then because she was different...NOW I'M GOING HOME and the crowd cheered wildly for her!!!! Loved her soul, free spirit, straight talk and quirkiness and spunk She was a once in a lifetime star/singer with a God given voice, who we all still miss and will love her forever!!!
My sister came back from New York to England in 1969, (when I was just 15) with "I got them Ole Kosmic Blues again Mama. " She also had an album by Tim Buckley (Hello and Goodbye) and both artists left an indelible impression on me. The music comes down through the years to us and still gives me chills....
That's the saddest part... she probably would not have ODed if she had been given the respect and love that she deserved from the people she knew. She just wanted to be loved.
I already loved Janis for nearly 40 years but seeing your great video here makes me feel like I heard her with completely new ears. I had tears watching you both. Happiness to you both.
I always get emotional when I listen to her,so let it out girl. And this song really showcases her voice so well, haven't heard this one for awhile and I'm happy I'm hearing it right now 👍
Piece of My Heart really shows off Janis' ability to show strength in emotional pain, but you can't find a single song that shows everything her voice could represent. Me and Bobby Magee shows more tenderness and nostalgia. Mercedes Benz shows a fun side, but she sings the words with the conviction that they are right, because on some levels they really are. Right this second, do you want horns and a comfortable groove? Then try As Good as You've Been to This World turned up to 11.

@@yvettevargas4192 Absolutely.
I’ve watched that movie at least 15 times. Still my fav. Absolutely fantastic sound track. Every single song.
i suggested this after the first reaction. Outstanding film and performance by Bette Milder.
I though that unique and powerful Janis wail 7:34 would never get here. Your reaction was exactly what I thought it would be. I knew that would hit the depths of your souls. Janis' voice and spirit will live in forever.
Remembering the fall of 1968. This song knocked me over. Loved it since I was 15, when Janis was with Big Brother and the Holding Company.
sometimes when I watch your reactions to these videos with classic rock artists I wonder how much you two would have enjoyed seeing these artists live in concert 30 years ago like I did. It was an intensely awesome experience. And of course, the whole world was different then too.
She sang with everything she had. Love her. 💜💜💜
I just found your channel yesterday and spent all day listening. Love all I heard.
It’s almost like she was from another planet and could only stay here for a minute!!! Soar with the angels Janis!!!💕💕💕🛸🛸🛸👽👽🙏!!!
One of my favorite songs by Janis was Summertime which was originally in Porgy and Bess, Janis was a one of a kind beautiful voice. You could truly feel her soul and the pain. She had so much emotion in her voice you could almost feel it.
Omg, YEEEEES
Suggesting Bonnie Raitt “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Bringing it down but hits the heart too. Even Prince covered it too. Thanks for Female Friday’s!! 💗✨🤪
👀👍🥸🤟 I love that Bonnie Raitt song. Makes my face precipitate.
Bonnie Raitt - Angel from Montgomery!
Teddy Swims covered it too .
I love it too, but my favorite is Angel From Montgomery.
Love my fellow Texan and her beautiful vocals. She grew up in Port Arthur, Texas , the town next to where I grew up, she's just special to me. My favorite from her is "Ball and Chain" live from Monterrey. Kickass performance !!! 🥰
Are you from Baumont?
@@user-ii4zf5iq3t No, from Nederland.
Jimmie Johnson cowboys coach was her schoolmate
The images of Janis smiling, laughing, and full of joy contrast with the pain and heartbreak that we know she felt. And that contrast drives her performances to make her the apex of blues shouters like Big Mama Thornton and others.
Unbelievably wonderful. To me it is just another High School song. Love her voice.
One of the greatest gifts you two are going to give your children is this love for so much and many types of music. You are a gift. Thank you.
Leonard since offered many apologies for the kiss-and-tell (to put it mildly) reality of that tune.
@@xianshep Yes, I'm not sure her parents would've been all that thrilled bye Mr Cohen's 'tribute'! Even if he meant it lovingly...
And one of my favorites of his "If it be your Will" Leonard Cohen is a Goat
As a contrast listen to Joan Baez’s In the Quiet Morning for her take on Janis
I agree
You two have definitely taken the whole "reaction video genre" to a higher art form. Thank you for all that you do.
Facts🤟
💜💙💜
True!
Found your channel a few days ago, you guys are great! Making this old hippie smile!
Agreed. Completely. Gratefully.
All of Ambers reactions to Janis are the best I've seen on TH-cam after watching hundreds of these from diffrent sites. LOVE IT
The passion! The emotion! This song is iconic!
You are two of the most intelligent and good hearted people.. love your deep well thought out reactions to the music we grew up with, much success to you both.
Yes!!!!!!! 💜
So true. Thanks so much for starting this channel, Jordan. It’s so cool seeing you and Amber bond over these amazing songs!
The depth of emotion in this song is operatic. Desire, love, loss, irony, despair...Thank goodness she recorded her performance....
It isn’t a happy song, you don’t have to force yourself to be happy. This IS the blues. She is having her heart ripped out. No one sings it like Janis. She’s so transparent, owns her life, the mess of it.
Amen!!!❤
☮️💜. Music is supposed to make you feel, tears and crying is perfectly normal
Exactly! Totally agree.
Good Times.
I absolutely love all your reactions ❤️❤️
Amber…i absolutely LOVE your reactions to JANIS. You’re SO a hippie. :-) This might be the most authentic reaction channel on YT. You and J really stretch your awareness and perception. It’s incredibly refreshing and completely legit. Often when I’m a little down I watch this channel and it never ceases to lift me up. Thanks so much for what you guys do.
what a beautiful legacy, teaching your children to embrace such legends, gifting these songs, the musical histories and the life and times of these artist to the next generation;
Simply beautiful
That’s rasp and crackle is what makes her fantastic. It’s not perfect but it’s real. Not been perfect makes it perfect. Real passion and heart. ❤️ go Janice. I’m so happy you understand her. 🥰
So amazing to see the younger generation recognizing and loving our Queen Janis.
I listened to this song in eighth grade and was mesmerized by her talent and tenacity.
in my teens when i first heard her…a true legend…no comparison
This is probably her most well-known song. Even though I've never liked her music, I can totally appreciate and respect her talent.
@@vandergod Agree totally with you... I mostly listen to stuff from 1964 up until 1983.
I especially love:
*The Scientist (cover)
*Fields of Gold (cover)
*Swallowtail jig (they have toured Ireland)
Another one to look out for is Allie Sherlock, a very talented 16 year old busker from Ireland... she has done many great covers... you need to check out her performance of Valerie (Amy Winehouse)...one of my favourites by her...
I am so happy for you Amber!!!!!!! This is by far one of the greatest Janis songs that showcase her amazing voice.
I love watching the two of you and your reactions, Its great to see young ppl enjoying this music, I was blessed to grow up in the 60s/70s
Janis moves everyone to tears with her voice. Legit. Her heart is in each note...this song is amazing. But you'll cry even more if you listen to the lyrics.
Amber, if a song moves you to tears, it means it has done it's job. Great reaction!
We lost Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison from the Doors in one year. It was devastating to all of us who loved rock and blues.
Do “Little Girl Blue” next. It’s heartbreakingly soulful and shows off her interpretive skills. Peace out.
Yes! little girl blue💔
I totally agree.....showed that she could sing softly and with grit at the same time!
My favourite song of hers...might be my favourite song in general.
Tom Jones introduces Janis Joplin singing "Little Girl Blue" : th-cam.com/video/ungUmyQ-k9U/w-d-xo.html. Need I say more? Peace out.
100%
On Dick Cavett's talk show after a great performance and great applause from the audience, before Janis was about to shortly attend the class reunion of her old hometown class and school and at the peak of her enormous success and fame...Janis said "they laughed me out of my class, my school, my town and the state...and bullied her back then because she was different...NOW I'M GOING HOME and the crowd cheered wildly for her!!!! Loved her soul, free spirit, straight talk and quirkiness and spunk She was a once in a lifetime star/singer with a God given voice, who we all still miss and will love her forever!!!
Iconic singer!! Iconic song!!
That is my fave Janis album. I think Kozmic Blues is her best song. Every woman should own that album.
She never knew how amazing she really was. Heartbreaking.
That's the saddest part... she probably would not have ODed if she had been given the respect and love that she deserved from the people she knew. She just wanted to be loved.
Definitelyl was heartbreaking. A gal out of her time...too bad we'll never have more of her uniqueness.
Yesss!!!! So glad this reaction is happening! Love it 💜 such a fantastic, gritty performance!
I already loved Janis for nearly 40 years but seeing your great video here makes me feel like I heard her with completely new ears. I had tears watching you both. Happiness to you both.
So nice to see someone who gets excited over an awesome song. Like me. I don't even try to contain myself.
First! She’s one of the most overlooked singers in history.
I always get emotional when I listen to her,so let it out girl. And this song really showcases her voice so well, haven't heard this one for awhile and I'm happy I'm hearing it right now 👍
Janice is a QUEEN!!! And I'm SUPER HAPPY you shed a tear. That just means the music got to your SOUL!!! And that's what Janice is.........SOUL!!!
Thank you for remembering Janis..Us who around back then will never forget now or ever.Peace
I just freakin' LOVE you guys!!!!!!!!!!!! You seem sooooo perfect for each other. I had that for 32 years. She's gone now (RIP) but that vibe still resonates deep within me and you guys have it. Thanks for being there. Love you both. I'm just sayin. ❤️✌️
Love, Love, LOVE Janis!!!! She still gives me goosebumps!!
I really like you two. You seem to like all the great singers from the 60's and 70' best music so far in time.😊
I am 70 years old you are making remember teenage, young adult years. I love you guys
Janis Joplin - To Love Somebody (Live)
It’s a Janis sung song that was written by the Bee Gees…. It’s the perfect combo for you 2!
