    Another tip I would say is that you can't go above 100% warp surge. So if it's maxed out or will max out don't be shy about using psychic abilities.

    • @Zelinator1
      @Zelinator1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm pretty sure that once the warp gauge is at 100% your warp attacks fizzle out.

    • @NYCFenrir

      @@Zelinator1 Nope. I just tested it and was able to keep using warp abilities and the meter stayed at 100%. My guess is you ran out of willpower.

    • @broco1163
      @broco1163 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes. This is one of the most important tips, play the warp surge game. If you're going above 100% next turn anyway, go nuts with abilities, the excess does not carry over. If you can stop it at 95%, then hold back a little this turn and get an entire extra turn avoiding surge. Limit the amount of "downtime" turns moving between packs... if you have all your guys out of combat at 1AP, and you move forward and proc a new fight, your guys will immediately go back to 3AP but it will still be the same "turn" so warp surge will not move even though your guys just refreshed AP. Using these tactics, it's entirely possible to limit your surges to one per regular mission, or maybe a second as it's ending.
      Also remember that kills grant 1WP, so if someone is running low, be sure to get them some kills. (Also be aggressive. Killing most or all of a wave is possible with the right abilities and setup, and the best defense is a good offense in this game.)

    One of my favorite builds so far is a tanky crit justicar, apothecary with debuff skills and maxxed out healing ability, and 2 interceptors, one with highest damage hammer/crit, and one with psilencer (psi gatling gun whatever it's called).
    Justicar can easily tank heavy damage rounds with good term armor, the apothecary can top off anyone getting low, and in combat drop large bleeds, silence, etc. 1 interceptor can bounce around with teleporter melee attack and support fire ability. Whilst the other has long range fire, can teleport into a sort of shotgun attack to clear large swaths of squishy enemies, and both interceptors can proc support fire off each other, since the melee guy is almost always going to be within 7 tiles of something, and the long range interceptor has 14+ range support procs with high damage up to twice per round.
    Also, I run 2 frags on the interceptors to knock enemies out of overwatch or off terrain for easy kills. The Justicar either has melee crit support items, or tanky support items depending on the mission difficulty, and the apoth either has a debuff grenade, or a heal servitor. Sometimes, I sub out the grenade on my psilencer interceptor for a healing servitor if I believe it's going to be a rough mission. So far, this has served me very well as my main squad, consistently doing 2-3 missions before I have to cycle them out for healing. They can drop injured if I need it too, since the build tends to take very little damage. This is tested on the 2nd hardest difficulty with ironman and has worked well for me to at least day 140+. After that, gonna need a bit more variety. The Purgator is also very good, but I just love having a teleport on my ranged unit, rather than having him sit exclusively in the back. Interceptors can also get out of trouble if I make a positional mistake.

      How far did you go with this setup? Did you make it past any of those four bosses' stages? What difficult setting?
      And what was the core initial ability of each one of your 'dream team?
      The issue is WP, your build is a deadbeat, and at the end of the initial few 'cleanup', only AP gets recovered, NOT WP.
      To recover WP you will need kills and you won't get kills with your healers and buffers when your two interceptors kill all of them. So you cannot finish especially those key events five corruption tactical maps challenges (not boss fight). You need to hold SEVEN turns while NPC finishes the task at hand! Boss fights are the same thing, those guys show up EACH turn in a circular room and your butter and healers WON'T be able to kill them at all! (the game is NOT balanced !)
      I bet you were never able to make it past the first boss. But do tell us about the first boss encounter and how you finish each one of them especially when your healers and buffer cannot get WP because they are not powerful enough to finish the kill and recover WP.
      Then how do you finish 2nd boss, 3rd boss, and 4th boss? Do tell. Please, we are all dying to hear how hard you blow.
      The reason to post: is to tell everyone that the game is not balanced. Don't buy it! Stop this lie to satisfy your 'ego' that 'how well you play'.

    My best tip is move your knights together, if you spot an enemy all knights gets max AP, so you can have all knights within engagement range. Also if you take out a the last enemy your knights again get full AP. By planing these mechanics you can sometimes do whole missions in one turn.

    Early game setup.
    Justicar, Apothecary and 2x interceptor or interceptor and a purgator, depending on what you need.
    Late game setup.
    Librarian, Chaplain, Paladin and Purifier.
    All melee of course.
    Librarian teleports all units into melee and casts the AoE stun.

    To throw on another one, always move youre furthest knight behind first both in and out of combat and move 1AP per knight at a time. A lot of the times there is a way to eliminate most if not all the enemies in 1 or 2 turns if you play your knights in proper order from their positions. In combat, your furthest knight may not be able to move close enough to make a kill or even do damage, however he may assist in helping another knight complete a kill or even better an execution if you see what you can do with your other knights first with a buff or not doing damage but adding that much needed extra stun. Outside of combat moving the furthest first will allow to get your knights as close as possible before engaging in combat so when the battle starts you wont need to use ap to move and will have 2 - 3 potential attacks per knight. Hopes this helps if comprehensive enough.

  • @robertmichalic4500
    @robertmichalic4500 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    3 most important tips that are missing in this video that I learned the hard way :
    1. never run ahead with a single knight (except for Chaos Gate missions) - always advance by 1 action point, all 4 until you move your knight for another action point - you want to be as close to the enemy as possible when the fight starts as your action points get reset to full and you want to run into melee / engage enemies with ranged ASAP - you really want to use the first turn when enemies don't do anything to thin their numbers, ideally score an execute so that you can try for another execute - it is possible to have an execute train and wipe the entire group before they can even react.
    2. Do not expect you can play safely enough to not get your boys harmed - if you are in range of your opponent (you can at least 1x melee him/shoot at him), hiding behind anything won't help. The game's greatest weakness is lack of information on enemy's possibilities of movement and attack - you have to read the abilities in their info card and COUNT squares on the map to find out if they are in range with ranged abilities but there is NO INDICATOR for how far they can MOVE! If you are close range, best defenses are sword equipped as melee weapon, having spent the last point for shield up (if you couldnt finish the enemy outright) and staying on melee range of ranged guys - marines will have to hit you with weak melee attack and won't attack with ranged weapons afterwards.
    3. Pick talents for 100% crit abilities ASAP (Astral Aim and the melee one) - optimal way to disable dangerous ranged foes or speed up stunning to get on execute train. Once you get to choose specialists, pick Librarian, go for mass stun and stack WP on him - with overcharge he can afflict a group for 5 stun points - insane. If you then go for mass teleport, he is clearly a god damn MVP

    • @chubwheel
      @chubwheel ปีที่แล้ว

      to point 1: no matter how i keep the close or so, and watch the indicator of the enmy scout team where they are headed, i always trigger them somehow just by sheer bad luck i guess with that one knight with whom i choose to move first:( and i also feel like i'm aaaalways somehow out of reach and have wasted turns with knights who i just used to position in that turn:( or just get 1 attack of because i used 2 to position myself. I know this is deliberate i think by the game. Any advice on this phenomenon how i could counter this?
      to point 2: yeah, its a bummer that when i try to move somewhere, dont confirm and hover over the enemy, it doesn't show if i would hit or not and how much damage i would do in that position. Altough its fair to say that if i flank an enemy outright its sure to hit

    • @robertmichalic4500
      @robertmichalic4500 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chubwheel Always start moving with the knight who is farthest behind - do not immediately click, just hover over the map and check how many action points will moving to that square consume. Move that knight as close to the knight who is closest to the enemy as possible.
      Then select any of the knights that has remaining action points, hover your mouse over battlefield and towards the enemy and find a spot where you can move that would cost only 1 action point. Move that knight there - if the battle did not trigger yet, move the rest of the knights to the same line (not further towards the enemy!) and again choose a knight that has remaining action point and move him towards the enemy.
      Repeat these 2 steps until you engage the enemy. If you can't get in range, try to end your turn with your squad being approximately at the same level - near each other - because as you said, the group may move towards you and trigger the fight.
      When you enter combat, you typically should be able to get to melee range in 2 action points (some upgrades / items extend your movement and can make it cost only 1 AP) so you have 1 spare action point - if you use it for each of your squad members, you can usually kill off / disable at least 1 enemy, which is a huge advantage. If the enemy is tough enough to survive multiple hits and you stun him (basic chaos marines have only 3 stun charges) you can execute him and do the exact same thing to some other enemy.
      DO NOT spread the damage, if you can - try to pick one and kill off if it's possible.
      To your point 2 - I am not sure but I think you can somehow select melee attack and hover over enemy to learn how much damage would you deal.
      My problem is with not being able to tell if the enemy could move and still manage to harm my boys - not even an indicator for how far can the enemy move.

    It took me a while to figure out how important aggression is - I was already coming from xcom's defensive approach and the tutorial seemed to also emphasize overwatch and cover..
    To your second point - in later stages at the game when your ship is more developed it seems advantageous to get your marines critically injured a few times because of the buffs from cybernetic enhancements which are added to the character's starting/permanent traits.

      It amuses me a bit that the whole turn-based strategy rpg genre is now referred to as "X-Com" games, like there weren't already great hit titles in the genre. Don't get me wrong, not hatin' over here or anything, I love X-COM series, it's just funny how humans/things change all the time the way they do. Regardless, they do indeed make a lot of Warhammer strategy games from both universes, but that's because that's what Warhammer was born as essentially. A strategic, turn-based game before video games were really a thing so it makes total sense. They've been trying to make the best attempt at making a game to rival the tabletop/recreate it's experience in video game form and no ones quite done it yet. Some get close, very close, and this game is one of them, maybe even the best one ever in some opinions, mine included haha. Definitely worth the purchase price and I can't wait to see what they have in store for future content. In the meantime, I shall be enjoying my time commanding the Edict, and the Hammer(s) of the Emperor in glorious battle against the forces of chaos and corruption! Emperor protect you all, my brothers, until the forces of darkness fall before us! 🤣😂 (Yes, yes, I know, very lame way to end a post but I enjoyed it and thought it was funny 🤣

    I have picked this up. I love it mechanically and out-of-game flavour is just DRIPPING, which I adore.
    HOWEVER, the in-game feel of this is pretty fucking poor... Ok maybe my knights are still lvl 1 and 2, but god damn! A cultist with an autogun can bring my SPES MUHREEN to half health, if I'm not careful? While my FULLY ATUOMATIC GRENADE LAUNCHER does 4 damage to that same guy? No wait. -2 for long range and -1 for cover. 1 damage. Odd since his autogun seems to have been fully effective, despite the range being the same and the cover seeming similar too... Anyway, that's my pet peeve. I am loving the game though. Especially after I've unlocked some more abilities and started using spells more liberally, I've managed to get that super human demon hunters vibe going a bit better in battle.

      @achtsekundenfurz7876 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree -- scale sucks in many games. Even cultist cannon fodder seem to come with their own version of bolters. That sounds way off, so it must be something else.
      I take it as "only one of each cultist squad is drawn on screen", because the combined damage output of an entire squad should be around the DPS a single ranged cultist has in the game. Maybe the real marines are wading through hordes of cultists without as much as slowing down, but the way it is, it looks more interesting, since your decisions actually matter. And sometimes it's even in your favor. You can sometimes drop a grenade on 4 or 5 of them, but 20 or 30 would be impossible no matter how weak they are. :\

    • @zlobzor
      @zlobzor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What mode are you on?
      On standard, I've been romping through cultists pretty easily. You've got to take a little care with what you do, and make sure your cover is effective. The AI is semi competent, and will position to negate it.
      You are better off completely killing one foe, than hurting lots of you can.
      It's also sort of a balance thing. The cultists only shoot once. You can stand and shoot 3 times, and more later on.

Items that can give people "an unfair boost" only if they can afford it or w.e the requirement is, but it usually a thing where you have to pay them more, after already buying the game at full price or w.e. so yeah people get upset by it sometimes cuz they dont know where it will lead from just being minor in game items, to possibly having to pay to unlock actual content needed for the base game to finish, or anything like that could happen

    No such thing as *Damage Per Second* in a turn-based tactical game.

    so basically this game is pain in the ass for the 1st run. The biggest drawback for me apart from rng is no enemy view zone indicator. And because the game is demanding u dont want to trigger fight-turn with 1 reckless idiot and the rest 3 marines 3 moves away, cause u r gonna be fucked up. To avoid this u just need to step 1-2 move at a time outside of fight. This is ridiculous design decision.

    Game looks fun but those executions are underwhelming and dated. Hit one side of the body and an arm goes missing on the opposite lol

      That was a bit of a physics glitch. They don't normally look quite that meh.
      Yeah, the exicutions aren't all that impressive. However, they are very quick, which is something a lot of games get wrong. Super fancy exicution animations get old when you have to sit through a bunch of them.

    • @ululug6381
      @ululug6381 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zlobzor Oh, I agree. Long animations are draining but then again, you could have the animations happening without looking, having them run seamlessly into the next turn and then down the track add many more seamless animations to enjoy. What many games get wrong, is that a game can be really fun to watch too. E.g. seeing 3 small minions, have the character drive them all onto the sword and throw them off but it doesn't have to force watch animation, it can just happen in the background while you're onto your next champion hacking into another and so on. I believe it would bring a rather exciting and satisfying feeling of just pure chaos happening as you're playing into your next turn/player etc.

    This game is fucking hard. My units are like toilet paper. I’ll be at 100 health and some cheeky fuck will touch me once and I’ll get extracted. That unit is now injured for two months. EDIT: I didn't know how to use stratagems. the game is much easier now

      If you can level a justicar enough to upgrade "honor the chapter" he can gift 2-3 ap to another unit. Then if you can get an interceptor that can warp in, he can use the extra ap to wipe out entire squads with just the basic weapons (I'd use sword for the occasional melee block). Also save overwatching for corners where the enemy has to move to hit you.

      @@michael5068 Alternatively, Justicar with the Agis boost, taunt and terminator armour. 14 armour is tasty, especially when you make your foe run through fire to get to you. 😁

    • @zlobzor

      Critically wounded is going down to 0.
      Normally injured always take time to recover, but can still be used.
      Critical Knights are unusable for 20+ days, and then count as 'injured' after that.

    Isn't the difficulty increases just going to make everything bullet/chainsword sponges? It's honestly my main hesitation in purchasing the game. The dev trailers looked super easy, but if their solution is to just make basic bitch zombies take forever to kill.. not impressed.

    • @NightWhisper8462
      @NightWhisper8462 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Increased health could be a blessing and a curse, a curse as you describe, making things damage sponges but also a blessing because it'll mean you could have more room to stun something and then execute it allowing for more actions, from what I've seen (assuming they don't change for release) hard difficulty increases their health by 25% and that's it, on the hardest difficulty they get 50% more health but no additional combat bonuses, you instead receive campaign maluses like increase research and build time/cost. While on paper it sounds like just making things damage sponges we also have to take into account that an instant kill mechanic exists in the game, the more important question is going to be how tough is it to stun enemies as an attack on a stunned enemy is a guaranteed crit which allows executing outright

      @@Rob-yh4vb I've not played at higher difficulty yet, so pinch of salt.
      However, with the lack of RNG to damage (other than a potential crit bonus) it is a lot easier to plan around the increased toughness.
      I guess it'll also improve the debuf/bleed abilities as well. They are more useful on enemies that can take a few hits than squishies.
