I made this a couple of weeks ago for a friends 92nd birthday - wanted to do something really special. Made it in different shades/patterns of lavender & following your instructions to the letter. My friend initially thought it was one piece of material, until I explained how it was done. The most complicated part was the final bit putting the cushion together ensuring the pieces went the right way, checked several times. As always you give clear, concise instructions, many thanks.
I made this! Turned out beautifully! I also use your finishing technique for every pillow cover I make! I love the finished case! Thank you Debbie! Keep up the good work and sharing the with us! God bless you!
Thanks Debbie for another project that inspires me to get back into the sewing room. I love that you make projects from tour own books which can really help us get a feel for your book. It also tells me which books I have missing from my collection!
Thank you so much Debbie for your generosity in sharing these tutorials. They are really inspirational, I can't wait to get started on this cushion cover, it's really lovely.
Great to see the whole process :-). Loving the professional finish tip with lining the inside of the cushion - think I will use this for all my cushions going forward. Beautiful result! Thanks again for the masterclass.
Thank you so much! Just finished my 1st one! Have another to make! Took me almost 6 hours to do but only as I had to cut my strips! I also had a couple of coffee breaks! I don't have much confidence either so I guess after over worrying and pinning and 2nd guessing myself I could cut the time by at least an couple of hours!!! I used a pale teal, light grey & white just to give my bedroom a lift!! Love my new cushion! Thanks again... keep up the amazing tutorials! From a very happy Scottish lass! Xxxx
HI Debbie. Good ways of turning the tubes in the right way. Another way I use is to place a chopstick in the seamed edge of the tube and push the fabric through. Works a treat also. Love watching your videos! Keep them coming!!
I just made this cover out of my scrap box and I love how it turned out.... thank you Debbie for the tutorial...am planning on making a few more of them
Hi Deb. I have this book and made a woven ribbon cushion for my dad for his birthday a few years ago. It still sits, pride of place, on his bed. I love the idea of using a jellyroll to make the cushion cover..... so this is another project to add to my ever growing list lol. Love Lisa xxxxx
This a brilliant way of finishing the inside of the pillow envelope! I’ve be trying to figure out the best way of doing this. I’ll be using this method when making panda pillow for a friend. Thank you so much for your fabulous videos! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
I have just finished the ribbon woven cushion for my daughters birthday. I used cotton fabric. I am really pleased how it turned out. It’s not perfect but lm learning all the time from your videos.
Only recently (since lockdown) seen all your fabulous work and great easy to follow tutorials. Saw this woven fabric cushion cover and decided to try it. Am only halfway through but enjoying it so far. Am about to do the weaving? wish me luck :)
great tutorial video. The book I ordered it and it arrived. looking forward to learn how to create some. looking forward to more tutorials. Thank you Debbie x
Beautiful cushion cover, Debbie! Very clever to use the jelly roll instead of ribbon. Also, I like that you lined it to keep the inside neater in appearance. I always enjoy your videos and books. TFS! xoxoJanet
Amazing work ... Very nice voice, professional video feed. Not knowing the language, I ALWAYS UNDERSTAND the progress of the process. Thank you for the great master class! Воспользовалась "переводчиком".
Love this and can see all sorts of possibilities. Could couch string onto some of the strips for added texture, etc. Thanks for another great video Debbie :).
I've started using the extra lining inside the pillow cover on all my pieced tops. Thanks again for a great looking pillow cover. BTW I found it just a bit quicker to place wrong sides together of the tubes, then pressing the seam allowance in the center open. You cannot see the seams, so again just a bit quicker.
Thanks so much for this and all your excellent tutorials! I wonder if you could make a video tutorial of a simple cushion cover with this same method that gives the clean finish inside but without the making and weaving of strips. Just using a single piece of fabric for the top of the cushion so it would be much simpler but just as professional.
Thank you, I love all the different tips you give in the process of sewing the beautiful cover. Am going to try the technique of having the cloth lining, which ends up finishing the inside edges off, but with a zipper closure, not the envelope closure you show. I think I can figure it out!
What a brilliant project idea and gorgeous fabric (what collection did you use? Love those cool shades... not a dastardly mustard yellow or drab olive in the bunch!). Adore your books and videos, especially for tote bags. This basketweave idea would make a wonderful tote bag as well. Thanks Debbie for all of your TH-cam videos... I'll just have to try this one! ~Diana from Toronto
This is such a unique way of making a pillow cover, and it is indeed professional looking. thanks for sharing the tutorial. Might have to watch again to get the size calculated for my cushions. I have 6 that i want to redo with envelope covers. Thanks for sharing, could you do the strips on the diagonal with different size strips?
What a lovely idea, love this cushion....This has given me an idea for a friend's birthday...(wouldn't mind d, i have this book as well)...Debbie, I love the green bag and wallet at the back, is there a tut for that anywhere please? Thanks again for another great tutorial...
Trisha Goodier well spotted! That's actually a project from a book I'm writing at the moment, so I'm afraid you'll have to wait until next year for that one!
I am fairly new to sewing and am trying different styles of cushion to improve my skills plus have something lovely and useful to keep for myself or give away as gifts. I love the idea of this and am looking forward to designing a gorgeous woven cushion! A couple of questions if I may though: do you wash all the fabric beforehand to pre-shrink it, what if it fades as some fabrics might, some can look a bit 'washed out' even after one wash, or do you leave it for the new owner to launder it with the potential risk that perhaps the backing fabric might shrink more than the woven side or something? And how would a mix of different types/thicknesses of fabric work for the woven side, do they all have to be the same? A genuine newbie dilemma ;)
Love your tutorials, so clear. I made this for a friends ninety-second birthday in various mauves strips as wanted to do something special. Turned out really well, thank you
Thank you so much Debbie for yet another fantastic video. Love the design of the cushion cover. How's Alfie doing? I know he was getting tired in his older years.
Awww, I'm so sorry to hear that, I know you were really close to him, and had said he was feeling his age it still doesn't help though does it. Thanks for letting me know. Take care.
I just discovered this today-- wonderful tool for all those strips: Dritz Drawstring Threader, $1.79 from JoAnn's on line! But you have to be a little gentle with it. I'm going to order it because I have to make this dream of a pillow!! Thanks!!
so pretty Debbie. Love the colors you choose. Though I know I'll never be able to work at the speed you do. What is your secret? hehe I want to make a set of these for my bed.
Debbie, I love this - THANK YOU! I've made one as a gift and I'm making another for myself! Would you show us a ruffled pillow cover? I just love ruffles for a little girl!
Love this!! Just thinking, you could probably sew the tubes wrong sides together, press seam open on back, then lay the strips right side up on base fabric and weave because you don't see the back of the strop anyway. This would make the process a little quicker.
Thankyou again Debbie made a super cushion from your video so proud of it can't wait to sew something else, love your videos you make them so easy to follow, love everything that you make,Thankyou again

Lisa Fenn I remember! You used narrow ribbon and it took you ages!
it did indeed..and made my eyes go squiffy too lol xxx

yDiagonal lines of fabrics look amazing, A bit more time consuming but worth it!
Thank you for this brilliant tutorial. I like you hate seeing seams on a finished item so I will definately be using this one.xxx
I made this today (without the weaving) but I love how it's so neat inside. Going to do another with the weaving next. Thank you Debbie.
beautiful cushion cover . thank you

Debbie, I actually, believe it or not have the set of Old Turning Tubes of various sizes with that wire utensil you were using!
Absolutely fabulous! Thank you!
Very impressive. I am going to have to watch it a few times over though as I got a bit lost.
Love your tutorials, so clear. I made this for a friends ninety-second birthday in various mauves strips as wanted to do something special. Turned out really well, thank you
This was lovely.could it be used as a reversible cushion cover, one side woven one plain
Maureen Cullen Easily, if you're careful when sewing the turning gap closed so your stitches aren't seen!
Thank you so much Debbie for yet another fantastic video. Love the design of the cushion cover. How's Alfie doing? I know he was getting tired in his older years.
Carol Morgan Hi Carol, Alfie passed away just before Christmas, really miss the old boy!
Awww, I'm so sorry to hear that, I know you were really close to him, and had said he was feeling his age it still doesn't help though does it. Thanks for letting me know. Take care.
Very neat and beautiful.
Gorgeous work. A lot of work and time consuming. But let me ask you did you press your seams to the center of each strip. Thanks.
Certainly did, so you don't see them from the top side.
Wow simply superb!
I love it.. can't wait to try..
loved the introduction of your new dog made me laugh. 😂
Hi Debbie great video. What size needle and type of thread do you use. It is good to know when you are just a beginner. Many thanks again.
Iris Glasspoole for most work I use a universal needle, a denim needle for thicker fabric, and I like Guttermann threads. Hope that helps!
I just discovered this today-- wonderful tool for all those strips: Dritz Drawstring Threader, $1.79 from JoAnn's on line! But you have to be a little gentle with it. I'm going to order it because I have to make this dream of a pillow!! Thanks!!
Sue Leigh glad you like it Sue!
Hi, Debbie! Have you heard of the Wefty? It makes the weaving process much much quicker. It's essential for weaving.
I haven't, but I'll take a look!
love your tutorials and the ribbon trick is surely worth a try since my other tool just slips on me. thanks P.G.
Bobbin is lovely.

Love this!! Just thinking, you could probably sew the tubes wrong sides together, press seam open on back, then lay the strips right side up on base fabric and weave because you don't see the back of the strop anyway. This would make the process a little quicker.
