No matter how long you've been in design or any media arts, it's ALWAYS a good idea to learn and be inspired from others... it's amazing to see what people create! :)
ABSOLUTELY! I am studying hands and feel and perspective with an artist even though I have been drawing for years. We can ALWAYS learn from others - younger or older - and when we think we can't, then our growth has ended!
Hello, My name is Luuk. I am a young classical composer who wants to share his music to the world. It would be amazing if you would go to my channel and listen to one of my compositions. My best so far is called: New life. Please subscribe. It really much to my I will doing a giveaway at 50 subs.
This is by far the most helpful graphic-design related video ever. I learned more during these 14 minutes than during 3 years of design school. Thank you so so much, Matt. 👌
Love digging through "older" videos. Thanks for leaving these videos up. Very informative and helpful. I like that Matthew provided multiple examples to really enforce the concept across topics.
Oh mannn, I was so down with myself about composition in my photographs. It's dull, boring, and more importantly, I don't know why. It feels like when I put the camera to my eye, I am stuck to the rules and I don't know how to break it. The wolve and the elk explanation, I was like Whoa!! this is good stuff. Please do more of this.
4:10 not only is it in 'danger', it's pushed into a tiny corner which creates an intimidating feeling and makes this character appear vulnerable! Great
This content is pure gold. I'd love Matthew to give us some tips on how to direct motion graphics sequences. I'll be more specific: After I'm happy with a shot I've composed, I struggle a bit with figuring out if the next shot should be a close-up, general or mid shot; if it should include some sort of camera movement and such... In my head, I'm thinking of Cinema 4D projects, but this applies to any kind of audiovisual piece, really.
Love this channel man... I have practically learned so much and have had so many questions answered that have been unanswered for so long. Trust me when I say almost every one else out there trying to make videos are just blabbering and basically saying the same thing everyone else is saying and before you know it, you have wasted so much time waiting to hear something you don't already know. Thanks alot and hope to see more "get to the point" and practical videos.
Thank you for taking the time to explain, how contrast is a gamechanger in a design through a simple way. Matthew, if you can do the same video with how to construct better layouts in design, that would be something of high value 🙌💯
These type of videos really helped me a lot in terms of designing and its aspects than other resources. This channel is amazing for startup artists like me, thank you for bringing us great content, I highly recommend this
really helped me with my dynamic composition task in my graphics class , thankyou . As a mature student I find all the technology etc a bit overwhelming so anything that keeps it brief and accessible is great
Matt is a great in making stories and telling them. I have impressed by his work in a video about pitching design (a couple of slides in Russian about an event -2013) This channel really help me to think about design. Thank you very much for these amazing videos
love it! pure practical application of theory coming from designers grinding in the top end industry. a new dimension of design knowledge. not the same old same old software tutorial, which is also important; but point is there is not enough of these
I agree, there really isn't enough theory of design out there (atleast good stuff like this). It's amazing how something so simple can drastically alter your work for the better. I really do hope you guys make more of these - i was blown away by some of the type layouts your other designer showed in one of the last vids and secretly wished i knew how to make something like that lol. It was also pretty cool seeing how this was applied with the xbox ads.
Such a wonderful and one of the most educative piece I've seen. Absolutely loved watching this and all the futur videos. Loved Matthew's cold play experience!!
I asked some time ago and you guys delivered! Thank y'all for cooking up some Motion theory and visual treatment! Can't wait to see more Motion Design Theory!
Totally spot on thinking type as a shape. I wish I knew it sooner I always thought they were two separate objects but now if i want to match type to logos perfectly I just look at what characteristics the logo has , its line thickness, of it has any curves. Are the strokes rounded or pointed. This all helps to match type. Great video
That was amazing. Just simplifying it to simple b/w flat shapes to illustrate how to inner mechanisms works for these concepts. A brilliant strategy, thank you!
Fantastic examples, thanks for sharing, I have to say that the intro was cool. I like the way the out takes were used to lead into the lesson. Nice work. I am looking forward to useing contrast in a more extreme way.
great tips! Matthew is a great teacher.. Made it super simple. I like watching these topics in general to refresh or catch quick little tips. It's nice to see how designers think and approach a problem. I would love to see how Matthew tackles color in his frames. Thanks
Great episode. I would like to learn how you organize a motion design project in After Effects. How you break them down into shots and also manage assets. Also talk about your favorite tools for 3D, cell animation etc.
Matt is awesome. Simple and to the point. Types are just like objects - that was brilliant. Can we get something on seamless transitions in motion graphics? BTW- fan of the channel...addicted to it.
Hey! Great videos you guys! You help a lot getting to know how things work better! I was curious if you could make videos on layout and like size of icons vs Text near them, working with negative space, the right proportions of buttons, optimal distances between images and text, between headings and body etc. That would have been great! Thank you a lot for your dedication to educating people in web design!

Thank you for the video! Definitely would like to see more of this. Theres a few thing you pointed out which will help me with my next illustration project. Thanks again!
+The Skool Network Ok great! I've dabbled with AE using Element 3D plugin and have gotten some great results and really enjoyed it. My goal is to dig into it some more very soon!
Excellent video! In example 1, I was also wondering if our preconception or established notion about which the predator and prey are between the two animals helped to shape our interpretation of the composition whichever way you flipped it (foreground or background). Just a thought because if we were to replace those animals with anything else, that interpretation may not be obvious. Another thought - the stance of both animals also tell a story - one looks to be advancing stealthily while the other appears to look up scared. If the wolf were to be looking up and the elf had its horns bent down as if charging forward, then we may interpret differently. I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Lovely instruction video overall and am adding this to my arsenal of knowledge. Many thanks
I usually prefer video, but I found both to be very effective. The print version was well organized and contained a ton of info and graphics that helped illustrate the point visually, and the video was well organized, paced and communicated clearly as well. For the subject of teaching a design theory, I found that the print version with graphics and images more effective of getting the point across. For tutorials such as "how to 3D track a camera" or "how to manipulate the curve editor in AE", I definitely prefer video!
Ty Matthew very helpful especially for a beginner painter; however, it is very easy from your tutorial, to understand how to implement your methods; however, how could this apply in a landscape for instance! If u have time to answer this question, I would b very grateful! Ty again for your tutorial!!
You're welcome! Thanks to you! For now there isn't a specific topic I'm looking for (the videos cover so much already) but one topic I consistently face is what makes "good" or professional graphic design? Good vs poor design? As an intermediate-level designer, I'm still faced with those questions sometimes!
Wow! Really great video. I'd personally like to see more content on how to apply design elements in the realm of video if possible. Thanks for the content!
Coming right up. You're going to like the next video by Matt. He's going to show you some compositing tricks and tips using a couple of sapphire plug ins in AE.
This video is amazing and really simple to follow. As for request: I would like to see how to use type to give website unique look. Thanks Matthew! This was so awesome.

You explain very well and make it so simple. Thank you so much!
@@MatthewEncina plz explain if you can, the question is how we create dynamic composition in film....???
I love how Matthew explained things. It was very comprehensive and relaxing to listen to him.
Oh mannn, I was so down with myself about composition in my photographs. It's dull, boring, and more importantly, I don't know why. Every video you guys make is full of valuable content, it doesn't matter if it was made in 2016 or 2020, it's just amazing. Thank you!

Thanks Avinash! Appreciate the validation. There seems to be lots of TH-camrs out there, but only a handful of professionals that are on TH-cam.
About to start my Degree in Design and your videos have made me so much more prepared and confident. Keep it up!
enjoy the journey.

Great short vid - a ‘bite-size’ reminder of the basics. Good stuff that will be useful to a lot of people.

The Futur Yes, I agree! :)
I liked the first two examples Very much!
Very nicely done. Easy to understand and you made me think of type in a way that I hadn't thought of in a long time. It is just a shape.
Matt did a great job talking about type.
So valuable! Thanks Matthew for sharing this with the community. Really helpful. Take care.
Thank you. I Will start applying more of these contrast variations to my designs.
Matt is awesome. Simple and to the point. Types are just like objects - that was brilliant. Can we get something on seamless transitions in motion graphics?

Great tips! You guys have been knocking these vids out the park
The next one from Matthew is really good.
this is brilliant! thank you very much - valuable information on composition is rare
Truly fascinating stuff. Learned so much in so little time. Hope there are more of these videos. Invaluable for my art. Thanks guys
Liked. Subscribed. Giff me more of this guy. He knows some voodoo stuff that I need.
Matt's got more content coming. Hang in there. It takes him more time to write and prepare his videos.
Personally - color, shading, shadows and pro use of negative space.
Would be nice if you took a bland comp and using your principles you create many samples to show a dynamic comp.
I would love to see those! Thank you for sharing!
Creating portfolio layouts... grids, compositions
More of this guy for sure! Great content 👍
This was super helpful, I'd love to see more videos like this, thanks, Matt!!
matt will have to find time between directing commercials and producing education content.
Wowza - I learned a boatload from this video. I'm brand new to graphic design and this was so helpful to me. Thank you.

Great stuff I show this to my class every year!
This was a great breakdown. Applied these principles to a logo design I'm working on and it worked.
Nice!!! Glad to hear.

love this guy, simple explaining
yes. matthew is a natural.
Thank you so much for making this video which explains the concepts so well and easy. Really glad that i came across this in 2020.
I read your great article a few weeks back, thanks for making a video version!
Which do you prefer? Print or video as a learning platform?
I usually prefer video, but I found both to be very effective. The print version was well organized and contained a ton of info and graphics that helped illustrate the point visually, and the video was well organized, paced and communicated clearly as well. For the subject of teaching a design theory, I found that the print version with graphics and images more effective of getting the point across.
