    In the Cummins world, compound turbos is two stage charging. The intercooler is between the high pressure and low pressure turbos. The aftercooler is an air to water cooler that comes after the high pressure turbos. The charge air cooler is the air to air cooler, like the aftercooler, comes after the high pressure turbo.

    You guys may not know it, but you pretty much engineered the same turbo configuration that’s used on the current 4 cylinder world record holder in the 1/4 mile. Think it makes like 3000 hp. Not a very broad curve of corse, but considering how much money and time that realm has thrown at turbo setups, y’all got there quick! Can’t wait to see the green machine smoke!

    as a suggestion. when you attempt to shut off high pressure air , the flow tends to seek the weakest point . Having the shut off go to a bypass route might be a better idea. it would require an additional valve . thinking back to the detroit 92 series that run away on me. I pulled the cord and slammed a board over the intake to the turbo. The air sucked in the gasket between Blower and turbo.

    • @mrcobus86
      @mrcobus86 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Class rules dictated we needed to have a guillotine style air flap on the suction side of the turbo. We needed drill a single 1/2 hole in it to keep the turbo from eating the thrustwasher in the turbo from the full vacuum. A Gate in the pressure side of the turbo can lead to shaft breaking upon closing while under boost

    im sure some guys said the log wouldnt work, but i think what they were tryin to get at was that a smooth flowing manifold would flow better, and it would, i mean theirs no question about it their Plenty of info n even demonstrations n youtube videos explaining why the one with abrupt 90 degree turns doesnt flow as good as something with some curves im sure it works jus fine n u get plenty of power but, again theirs no question that it definitely would flow better whether that little bit of flow makes any noticable differnce i doubt, but it would absolutely change the flow numbers

    I found in my experience that mig welds crack on frame rails and such , not at the weld but right on the outside. Because the mig heats and cools the metal so quick . With tig welding this doesnt happen. If your weld start crack on he outside of them try tig welding next time .

    with the facebook teasers i was hoping u were ew==recording the build! and that log style exhaust manifold, i think is genius, even drive rpessure for all the turbos?the boost curve must be insane, be like 5, 14, 29, 80. in no time, when big triples seem to take more time to get other ones spinning so late in the run.

    Log manifolds do work I don't think anyones argueing that but they don't work well... Try it but I'm sure if you made a proper intake with tuned runner length and some plenum volume it will work better.

    I remember listening to a Diesel Performance Podcast episode where one of their UCC guests was talking about how there seems to be a limit as to how much power you can put to the rollers on a chassis dyno due to a variety of factors. It makes me think that somebody otta hook one of these UCC rigs up to a Dynapack Hub dyno to see if they can eclipse 2,500whp+

    So you think all of the cars that run tubular exhaust manifolds are wrong? Love to see how this does if it’s too much backpressure or not, and it it flows to the turbine well enough. The log is certainly cleaner and takes up much less space

  • @timothybayliss6680
    @timothybayliss6680 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Although a plenum manifold biturbo set up will work, it will not work well. The reason it works in an intake manifold is because roughly 1/3 of the cycle is there intake flow where as the exhaust turbine is always flowing as long as there is drive pressure. What happens here is the only thing you have to drive the turbines is pressure and not pulsewave. A pulsedrive exhaust is impossible with a manifold design like that. Your drive pressure is going to be over 2:1 with a setup like that. There is a reason why the setups that work don't use a plenum with a right angle to the flow in them. You want to retain as much of the exhaust pressure wave form as you can, something you cannot do with this setup. Your external wastegate is in a strange spot. For efficiency reasons your going to want each stage to run at a pressure ratio of 3-3.5:1. Having one stage at 5:1 and one at 2:1 Will give a higher drive pressure than you need without any gains. You would be farther ahead to have a bypass gate that takes exhaust gas from the manifold to the plenum around the manifold turbine. This will drop primary drive pressure more than a secondary gate and keep both stages in a more efficient pressure ratio. That second stage drive looks like a lot of work but you guys will see how high the pressure and temperature gets on your fabricated pieces. Mild steel is really questionable.
