totally impressive. Not sure why they bother with all the other stuff though, it's basically all about the passes.
+Peter Hoffman they are scored on their leaps and turns too
+Peter Hoffman leaps and turns have the same difficulty as some passes. There's actually a Tumbling category/competition in gymnastics, but that's treated as a totally different sport.
+Peter Hoffman definitely not if she does not include her dance she would lose a lot of start value she would lose at least a point compositional requirements and over a point because her dance element value is around a 1.3-15 range which her start value would have been over 2 points lower which also means her score would have over 2 points lower so pretty much she would have scored lower than a 13.7
I'm not sure if some of the criticisms come from those who watch every day and expect perfection, but to me she looked like she floated above the ground. When she lands it is soft and effortless. I watch enough floor routines to know it stood out to me as a special quality to her skill. To make the women's Olympic team is a huge accomplishment few can claim. I wish her all the best in Rio.
I can't imagine being one of these girls' parents and watching your child flying through the air like that...I would be so proud but on the edge of my seat.
I used to not like her gymnastics at all four years ago but wow has she improved artistically. Dancing with the stars definitely helped her.

she was always naturally artistic but just had coaching staff who always wanted her to take the powerful road now she does both
It's awesome to see such a difficult routine performed so consistently. I don't think she will score this high internationally, but I think if she performs like this in Rio she can walk away with the silver on floor.

She's peaking perfecting just like 2012. Awesome routine! I would personally love to see Simone/Aly in the AA for Rio but unfortunately I feel like regardless if she beats Gabby at Trials all around again, Marta is still going to make her do only 3 events. Kind of like Maggie in Glasgow.
Gabby may not make the rio this year, itll be tough because she hasnt been performing well. Where as simone and aly have it locked down in rio and very likley Hernandez
Andrew Smith I see what you're saying and I would agree with you if Marta hadn't said even with Gabby's mistakes at P&G's she's still on her Olympic Team. Reminds me of how Nastia hadn't really proved herself 2012 but Marta kept saying Nastia is still on the team up until Trials. Fingers crossed the right girls make the team this year!
Nah Martha adores Aly and put her in for AA at London when she wasn't as good as she is now.
She has it ALL ! She's SO talented & beautiful & intelligent ! LOVE her !
I love this floor routine so much... She is such a hard worker and it does pay off, she has improved tremendously. I know a lot of people give her grief about her execution but honestly I think it's not that bad. Yes, she may not have the best leg line or toe point or flexibility but she has very good technique...

Even though I loved the era of artistic gymnastics, Aly is incredible. What she does here is beyond belief.
Yeay Aly! So happy to see that big smile when she hits her first tumbling pass perfectly. I know going OOB has been an issue for her on that pass and to see her conquer it cleanly both nights rocks! If Aly isn't in Rio it would be a huge injustice.
She will be there. No doubt. Her spot is even more secure than Gabby's.

Jordan Sefton I wish she added a twist to that layout. She definitely could and besides the first pass the other three are kinda boring. Especially the DLO and double pike.

I don't know if anyone else feels this way but I wish Aly would keep her legs together more and point her feet in her double layout. It's just always bugged me because in a routine at rio (I believe AA final) there was a gap and I could see right through her legs. That has always bothered me.

How do they calculate her SV? I'm so confused :(
I believe they add the difficulty level plus 10 (max execution score) and that is the start value. They then take off execution points. (Also,I think that they discredit stuff so they may not get the difficulty point. I don't know if they counted her double L. Not sure if that's difficulty or execution though.)

Amazing! However internationally this wouldn't score 15.700, her leap series would occur a bunch of penalties imho. Also as an AA her bars are to weak to use in a 5 person team with the likes of Kocian, Hernandez, Douglas and Biles for example!!
But a silver beam and floor medal in Rio is a huge possibility
+Robert Woolfe I could see silver beam happening but Laurie's better and international judges will favor her most likely, leading to her making finals and probably getting a medal. She also has .1 more in start value.
I feel like Marta will change the three connected leaps in the camp before the Olympics. It invites too many deductions. I really hope she gets an AA spot in qualifying. If she scores ahead of Laurie or Gabby (or both) again at trials, I think Marta will give her a slot. I'll honestly be a bit upset if Gabby gets an AA spot without significant improvement in the next month. Her consistency just isn't there.

Both are incredible athletes no question but Aly far outperformed Jordyn when it counted. I remember when I read her book Aly seemed almost embarrassed for outpacing Jordyn to qualify for the all-around in London but it wasn’t until she got on the biggest stage that she realized what she was capable of and was richly rewarded.

I'm picky with Gogeans and I thought this was done well enough. Hit her splits and completed her 1.5 before landing. The best Gogeans of all time are by Steingruber, Biles, and Maroney though =).

+Love Joy Her first leap did, and the switch leap, but no other. Still don't think she'll make it over 15.3-15.4, which leaves room for other good floor gymnasts to take advantage. Still like her on floor though.
Kojo Baidoo if you want to give her the benefit but to me and till I see a actual stop motion capture I don't give it to her for the first jump. just don't understand why she can't do it.she's a freaking Olympic champion and she still is giving away all these ridiculous points.
Not hitting 180 on her leaps isn't a huge deduction. Aly usual hits 180. Her and Simone biles both have such defined legs that in film there leaps don't always appear as high as they really are. There are pictures to prove Ally's leaps hit 180. Aly is the reigning Olympic floor champion and Olympic judges are the toughest in the world. She is about as good as it gets on floor, so please stop being so negative and support team USA and there success!
Not going to lie though, Aly's leaps are the weakest points in her routine. Her tumbling is nearly flawless though. Even with the leap deductions, I don't see how she deserved anything less than a 9.0 in execution..
I still don't get the hate that mykayla skinner gets when this slop show is almost worse if not worse then mykayla. Her choreo in this is terrible and she is just sloppy looking everywhere in this routine. Her beam and vault are also bad and choreo rushed and terrible on beam. She is far too cocky for me also. I'm not a hater I'm just tired of people including NBC just over looking her incredibly sloppy routines all the time.
And yet she's the reigning Floor gold medalist and when it's all said and done will most likely be going to Rio- this routine is a masterpiece, the power and height she gets is amazing (but of course Simone Biles is on another level)
I already know all of this. Her being the Olympic champ on floor does not mean she isn't or wasn't sloppy (or have sloppy Choreo) because she is and was. Yes her tumbling is high but it's also sloppy with bent knees on the dlo and to me she just is overall not a tight gymnast. I don't know how you can't see this unless you are blind. It's weird because I actually don't dislike aly but I'm getting kind of tired with people talking so much about other gymnasts and their form when she is one of the worst offenders. Her leaps are a whole other subject.
