Friend's first time flying in a small plane and landing with strong crosswinds in a Mooney Ovation!!

I took an out of town friend flying for his first time in a small plane and it was a really windy and gusty day!! Landing on rwy 36 at Cannon Creek has the approach and runway between trees and any strong crosswind causes havoc down low. Winds were 030 to 040 18kts gusting 25kts and therefore half of that was actual crosswind component. He did great! He also did the landing video which I am sharing with you.

The views were breathtaking and the flight was flawless despite the wind. You have mastery over that plane as it talks to you! Memorable experience. The sim did prepare me but actual flight doesn’t compare to VR MSFS2020.

You did great flying it yourself and were quite familiar with the avionics from all the Sims you have done. Perfect copilot! Now all you have to do is get yourself one of those moving flight simulators and you will be all set!

Thank you! Although note that the perspective of the camera in front of copilot and on top of glare shield creates parallax that makes it look like plane is off centerline. Was right on though 😉
