  • This is a short walk around my land (1/3 mile). In Dec 2016 I became the companion of an English Shepherd Dinah. An amazing dog. In trying to walk her on the roads with heavy snow, it was impossible to get out of the way of the many snow plows. The 3' or higher snow berms on the side of the roads forced you into the roadway or onto the berm. Not a safe situation, especially after dark as days here are short in the Winter. The following spring I started to cut a trail around my place. I can pack down with snowshoes and walk the dog safely in Winter and in the warmer months, it's a nice quiet walk. Over time, I connected it to a larger town trail system which connects to the Vermont VAST system (a web of trails that covers the state to the Canadian border). We've taken day long treks on these trails many were used by Native Americans and later by early Vermont settlers. There are many stone walls, stone foundations, earth/stone dams and cemeteries and monuments.
