Album of the summer right here. It hasn’t gotten old. My five year old daughter has requested this song be added to her favorite songs list. That is a hard list to get a song onto! My dads been listening to the album a ton as well. All around family album right here - lol. Jokes aside it’s a beautiful album and well loved.
MJL has so many near perfect lofi indie country tunes that even bringing up Sun Kil Moon is offensive. SKM is a poser trying to dumb down better artists like Dan Bejar and Katie Crutchfield. MJL is making country music rowdy and fun again! Sun Kil Moon had nothing to do with it
It's plain to me to see You have bought yourself a boat Since the last time you and me spoke Your laundry looks so pretty Soft threads hanging and relaxing in the wind You'll feel so much better when you wear these clothes again, clothes again The waves ruin the beach house Every year on your birthday They gave this hurricane your human name How many more bug bites Other subtle misfortunes cannot withstand a night Someone's snuck their moth balls into my headlights The neighbors are cussing Throwing shit in the yard And echos of the minor leagues Tumbled down the road
@@DD-bu1kgI mean, he's not wrong. But it happens. It's not like any of the things that make them similar have never been done elsewhere. It's quite possible Lenderman has never even heard the Dylan song. I don't think this guy was insulting him anyway. I just don't get why you're attributing this weird "trying to sound smart" motivation to him. Anyone who knows "Tough Mama" is gonna think of it. But, again, it happens. People are comparing this to several different artists in the comments. I don't know why you'd get mad about the one who is probably the most right, haha.
Doe to scheduling snafus..MJ was not available to sing his other monumental hit..'You Boght Yourself a Goat'...someone whispered psst..'Ya' boght 2, Nanny n' Billy'..
you have bought yourself a boat..ie..your fucked. clever stuff. dude is good. I hope its not a father John Misty thing. once you get too close to the truth you lose your footing
You know he’s got a unique sound because the gen x’ers in the comments all disagree on which band from their youth he supposedly sounds like.
I am an aging Gen Xer, and I approve this message…
LOL nailed it
Built to Spill :)
Hard agree , love from , Gen X
It's very simple he's the heir to Jason Molina and that's all there is to it

Agreed.. Can't shake it. Just absolutely special stuff.
stoppp thats so cute lol
Get ready for the stratosphere kid. Our hopes rest on you.
MJ sounds like a combination of all my favourite artists; Neil Young, Will Oldham (aka Bonnie Prince Billy) and Jason Molina (aka Songs: Ohia)
I’ve been saying the exact same thing to all my friends
@@danielmclaughlin4778 He's great. Check out 'Come Over' from 2019. It's even more like Neil Young than this one😊
So true. I would like to add some J Mascis and Doug Martsch.
@@danielmclaughlin4778 pavement leaning into to their folkiest
I see Pete Davidson doing a Sparklehorse imitation. But that's cool too.
Kept hearing the name MJ Lenderman recently. Decided let's hear it - scrolled YT and settled on this track as my introduction; I'm sold
this song will never get old for me
this slaps. always play this on laundry day for best times. thank you MJ L.
Super talented musician and I bet MJ's dad's record collection is pretty awesome.
Astute observation
If Sun Kil Moon was fun
But Sun Kil Moon IS fun.......oh, wait. No. No it's not. Not at all. My mistake. Carry on.

Best comment ever
@@tylerfoust487I honestly can’t tell if you’re choosing to be a fucking idiot or if you just happened to turn out this way
Best song of last year. Incredible.
Best song of this year too
This has got to have the best opening line of any song.
Nah, Random Rules by Silver Jews has that distinction.
No even close bruh
close second, but that goes to girl o' clock by the dismemberment plan
It's so amazing
Just recently found MJ and have been really enjoying the John Prine vibe his song writing has
The Band vibes. How does no one hear that? Lol. So good.
Definitely. I also hear early Bruce
Yes- specifically, Tough Mama from Planet Waves!
Phlegmatic pouty guys are literally my jam. Saw him in Detroit. The vibe was in full force. Totally here for it. You’re cute bro
Get a room
You Got Southern Twink Fever.
I don't feel good
A fan is a fan 🫡
Pervert
With good headphones this sounds next level. MJ we wish you all the best
I am *incredibly stoked* for this album
Jason Molina vibes for days!!!!
i've had this on repeat for a week
I can't stop listening to it
Only people who've bought themselves a boat can make them kinds of comments!
This freaking rocks dude
just came to say he bought himself a boat since the latest Waxahatchee collab
What I love about this tune is the subtle one drop rhythm established by both horns and guitar. Really outstanding album top top bottom!
Can you elaborate? I don't hear any horns on this track
@@ColinFrantz-n1u
Listen again. They're all over it.
This song rules
Aside from the obvious amazing elements, that drum track is killer---loosey-goosey, but likewise totally locked in. That's no small feat.
Bro you need to come to Italy yeah
Do you guys have boats.
Thought you were riffing on King Harvest. Keep up the good work. Don't let up.
Uncle Tupelo's doing acid again....
Every decade deserves a Mac Demarco....
F*ckin love this
F’ing Awesome
song of the year
absolutely thwackin good
"Every year on your birthday, they gave this hurricane your human name" lol oh my dear lord, thats scathing
This video cost 3 million dollars to produce
Worth every penny
Thata because the jewish director made 2.9 million from it you anti-semitic bastard!!!
I’ve a feeling that MJ has listened to the Band a bit!
Total levon helm drum groove
aaahhh so good!!!!
summer jam
Freaking love this
You have learned to play pretty pimpin’ 😂
There even seems to be a Pavement 😉
very funky, sounds like neil young and the stray gators
so fire, come back to austin !!
banger
This guy's effen amazing. Can we get George W in one of these videos?
Bush?
Yeah seriously did you mean Watsky?
@@johnsmiff8328 😆 I don't know who that is but I'll look them up. I meant Bush since he's been so involved in the arts in retirement.
@@kxlly totally missed this, yeah 👌
Even though this track isn’t representative the album as a whole is very J.Mascis / Dinosaur Junior Esque

Isn’t it “can I withstand tonight”?
I can't be the only person who thinks this guy looks just like Kurt Kirkwood.
I think the mic switch is off.
Isaac Vile jr?
Damn.
Sounds like he just blended up a Built to Spill and early Mountain Goats tribute band.
Throw in some Sun Volt & /or the Band too.
Kurt Vile gone countryish😂
🤠
Sounds like the Band with Jeff Tweedy from Wilco doing the vocals.
Please make a TLC Cage match video. What an album.
His cap says “FHCM Manufacturing”
Like, imagine if Ben Nichols and Jay Farrar had a kid. ^^^^^
Tough mama - Bob dylan
Sparklehorse, anyone?
Please this should neverbe on the radio
👍
This is clearly inspired by Dylan's Tough Mama, but it's still a great song in its own right.
Made an attempt to sound knowledgeable but fail miserably.

Kinda sad seeing so many references but no one mentions drive by truckers
Mustard & Biscuits
Pavement? Or wilco? can't quite put my finger on it. His voice has no trail off. It's likes it's either just on or off. weird.
No I didn't!
Maybe his next record could be "You Have Bought Yourself a Bowl of Chili Beans!" It will be easier for him to visit this mom if he's not on a boat.
as seems to me very in Pavement vein
pewiodddd
Slenderman plays music?

Definately not one of his better songs.
So profound-so meaningless
Southern Julian Smith
every time with the god damn dumb hats
His music is too goofy for me. Not a fan of the Mac DeMarco, Trey Anistasio and MJ personalities
