Whomp Em', Power Blade 1&2, Krion Conquest, and Totally Rad are all part of a longer look at Mega Man Clones for the NES: th-cam.com/video/vQwOOVEq_i4/w-d-xo.html
I played a lot of NES games as a tiny human, but this is definitely one of those games I never played, or had even heard of. It's a shame because it looks fun despite the challenge, and I enjoyed the Mega Man series and it's clones. "You will use the broom ...a lot, so you better get used to it", sounds like my boss at the Italian restaurant I worked at in hikes school. 😂
Always thought it looked great, but as soon as you start playing you realize why people dislike this game. Unfair enemy placement with clunky controls. It sucks because I was drawing to it from adds in magazines, but when I finally got a copy to try out it was almost immediately controller tossing frustrating!
I always wanted to play this but I don't think it ever got a rerelease on any of the Virtual Console services. Oh well, I probably wouldn't have the patience for it now anyway.
Ya can find the english translation not only on TH-cam, but as a patch too that you can easily use a program like lunar patch to patch the original japanese game in english
Of all the games in this playlist so far i've only ever owned 2 of them but have played only 3 altogether and i used to have quite a collection along with my childhood friend and his even bigger collection. 😄👍
This was a weekend rental for me, and good lord did I despise it. Of course I spent that entire weekend trying my best to finish it, but I've never once played it since, and never will again. I was absolutely shocked at how it looked so much like Mega Man, to the point I wondered how they didn't get sued for it.
Definitely don't remember this one. I'd take a bash at it though. Oooh, kelly kapowski. Now there is a blast from the past. I crushed on her bigly as a kid.🥰
Woah, not even half a minute in and already got some trivia I'm keeping for life. The Clash At Demonhead band name from Scott Pilgrim has real game roots! It's obvious in retrospect really..
Bootleg Mega Man at it's finest...or maybe worst. Another example of a NES game with a misleading cover art. I think most people would assume it's an RPG.
Yeah I remember thinking I found a cool Mega Man clone and finding out that it was distinctively unfun. Hey that's Chesterfield at 0:14, the game might be mediocre but the OST was awesome especially the boat theme.
Yep, that about sums it up. I used to put that in one of the displays at FuncoLand when I worked there to screw with Mega Man fans. It truly does feel like an imbalanced ROM hack.
I had this game growing up. Still have no idea how I had a copy. Perhaps it was a mega cheap game or somebody that hated the game gave it too me. Can’t remember. Never got very far because of how brutal it was. Skeptical of those that said they beat it in one night hahah.
I'd love to see a vid about the kind of games that weren't supposed to be primarily platformers, but seem to become into that kind of game: kind of defining that this game, lik LOZ2,, etc, up totally becoming a FPS or side scrolling game... Eh? (Either way, this was a great vid... +1, etc, etc... Cheers! 🥂)
The tendency to make games extra hard when localizing them back in the day ruined many a game. All to supposedly force people to by games not rent them.
I don't care what anyone says: THIS is the toughest game on the NES. I have beaten it, but even with invincibility cheats, it makes you earn it. Looking forward to seeing a cover of Nightshade, the Macventure titles, Silkworm, and Robin Hood.
I remember seeing this game advertised in Game Pro but I never played it. Do any of you guys remember Ninja Crusaders on NES? I did have that one and thought it was pretty cool
This one ain't that bad, though I 'think' they made it more difficult for the West, which is why it comes off worse than it is... too bad they also got rid of the cutscenes/proper ending from the Japanese version. The same thing happened to Karnov from what I recall... oh well, sometimes developers make odd choices.
@@BigOleWords From what I've read, it's because of the rental market in the West; in Japan you couldn't rent games, they had 'very strict' copyright rules and you could only buy or borrow from friends (that's why the second-hand market is so strong there to this day). So, they'd make games more difficult for the West, so that you'd have to rent them more often to complete them and pay more money. I mean, it's probably not a particularly shocking revelation, but yeah - it was all about money, as always. :P
Whoa, maybe put a photosensitive epilepsy warning. The fire ability and boss introductions caught me by surprise. While I do understand that old NES games features flashing lights/images, it’ll be nice to be warned prior in future videos. Aside from that, nice video.
Yeah that’s on me. I’ve never reviewed a game with such obnoxious flashing lights before and I wasn’t really sure how to show it or edit it. Hopefully I’ll never deal with it again but next time I’ll be better prepared. Thanks for the feedback :)
Too bad Krion Conquest didn't come out like a year later, because they may have opted to copy Mega Man 3's Rush Jet, which I think would have made this experience more tolerable. (I assume it was already in production by the time Mega Man 3 came out) I've also heard that they call it "Krion" Conquest because you'll "cry on" your hands and knees as a result from playing it!
If mega man had a lost sister it’s pretty decent but I just can’t get the blue bomber of my head when I play this 😂😂😂😂😂 Mega witch i can’t put myself to buy a copy of this art work on the cartridge is pretty rad
Honestly, that may be why I haven't been playing much lately....may have ended on Krion. It is just so mediocrely designed being familiar yet horribly difficult. Gimme totally rad any day over this...heck, might even prefer the muppets awful game to this. Missed ya Thursday. Hope everyone had a happy Bday duder. And a happy Turkey this week....you streaming this week?
I tried for a week straight to beat this but its just too much, and when i found out just how much they upped the difficulty for the NA release I lost all drive to finish it
This game could almost be playable if your character didn't plummet whenever you shoot in mid-air. The level design is still atrocious, but that one baffling control decision absolutely makes this one of the worst games on the NES.
I remember seeing Derek of HVGN talk about this back in the day and it still astonishing to this day how blatant of a Mega Man rip off this is. If someone said this was a romhack of Megaman I would have believed them. Pretty cute though.
I just went and tried this game, and even with save states found it to be too hard. I'm sure if I put hours into it I could get thru, but damn is this game hard. 2 lives and no continues? Brutal
Found this game in the discount bin at Woolworths for $20. Doesn't sound like much of a bargain does it? Well, way back when NES games new sold for between $35 to over $50. (Mega Man 1 through 5 sold for $50 each and MM6 was about $40. I took a lot of bags of cans to the scrap yards.) Fun fact: Why is it spelled Doropie if her name was supposed to be Dorothy? My guess is because Japanese people can't say "th". So why was her name changed to Francesca? Likely because nobody was watching subtitled anime in 1990 and would not have heard the Japanese voice talent say things like "san kyu". Fun fact 2: In the original version there are codes to let you play as Kagemaru and an alternate version of Francesca that to me looks a little bit like the American box art. Fun fact 3: Krion Conquest is much more fun remade in Mega Man Maker.
I've always wanted that game but it's way too damn expensive and looks way too difficult. I was never good at MegaMan games either although they were fun
I loved this game back when I first played it back when I got it for my NES, played it a lot and still love it to this day. So to put it lightly, I don't really agree with you at all about this game.
Es un juego divertido. No le crean al tipo. Además, no sé si se puede hablar de copiar el disparo cargado de Megaman, cuando ambos salieron apenas con par de meses de diferencia. Y además Doropie tiene mucha más historia.
I really liked that cruel description of the game’s mediocrity. If any of the developers are watching, I hope they’re already getting the therapy they needed back when they made the game!
I think what bothers me the most about this one is just that it was wasted potential. There is a good chunk of a great game in here but wow does it ever not come together at all.
Whomp Em', Power Blade 1&2, Krion Conquest, and Totally Rad are all part of a longer look at Mega Man Clones for the NES: th-cam.com/video/vQwOOVEq_i4/w-d-xo.html
Krion Conquest, I remember years ago playing this trying to learn video editing and making youtube videos. Game was honestly addictive for me.
I too was addicted...to turning it off! ;)
@@BigOleWords haha
Wow. They didn't even try to make you not think of Megaman when looking at this game.
Missing out on this game makes me want a shoulder to Krion.
Playing this game makes keeps me Krion for days!
Both of you, get out!
I played a lot of NES games as a tiny human, but this is definitely one of those games I never played, or had even heard of. It's a shame because it looks fun despite the challenge, and I enjoyed the Mega Man series and it's clones.

I completely agree with the Vic Tokai joke, I always picture one guy programming the games, when obviously its a company.
Haha glad I’m not alone!

This was one of the games
I had been wanting for forever and got at south east game exchange!
Nice spot to find it!
Omg those boss sprites...I would loved this as a kid (Japanese version definitely)
One area in which Krion really excelled :)
Anything you review will be gold. There's no NES only rule.
You have a youtube oyster, dip your toes in it. *bad translation
Thanks!
Of all the games in this playlist so far i've only ever owned 2 of them but have played only 3 altogether and i used to have quite a collection along with my childhood friend and his even bigger collection.
😄👍
So the series was appropriately named then! ;)
@@BigOleWords absolutely 😄👍
Cool. I used to watch that Wizard of Oz anime as a kid. Not that us kids here ever used the term "anime" at that time.
Nice! Yeah for sure and animation wise it’s definitely not as easily recognizable as anime.
@@BigOleWordsconsidering Dorothy is taken to another world, it is also technically an isekai
Edit: in fact it might even be the FIRST isekai anime

Oooh, kelly kapowski. Now there is a blast from the past. I crushed on her bigly as a kid.🥰
It looks like this game did the charge shot for the initial weapon first and Megaman 4 came out the year after this game in Japan.
Yes it did!
I forgot about Golgo 13 until you showed it. There was a few games with fps parts for nes.
And they’re always a pain!
I loved golgo 13. I bought it at childs world for my birthday one year with my grandma.
Child's World? That was the store name?!?
Childsworld and bradlees was where I got all my NES games when I was young. Up until funcoland opened.
Woah, not even half a minute in and already got some trivia I'm keeping for life.
The Clash At Demonhead band name from Scott Pilgrim has real game roots! It's obvious in retrospect really..
Crash and the Boys too!
Never seen this one before. Interesting is all can muster...
Very interesting indeed!
Bootleg Mega Man at it's finest...or maybe worst. Another example of a NES game with a misleading cover art. I think most people would assume it's an RPG.
Yeah there's no way I'd guess it would play like that from the cover.
Yeah I remember thinking I found a cool Mega Man clone and finding out that it was distinctively unfun. Hey that's Chesterfield at 0:14, the game might be mediocre but the OST was awesome especially the boat theme.
Don’t think I’ve ever played Chester Field. I’ll check it out!
This game looks cool as far as graphics. Thanks for another fun video !!!
It does have that going for it!
In Megaman community Krion is well known clone. Some Megaman fan games even have Krion/Doropy skins
Hahaha I'm glad I didn't get around to this one. It WAS on the list but you made it seem like torture.
It’s rough, holy shit.
"A whole GRIP of abilities". Lol

Lol.... 🤷
Haha I can see it!
@@BigOleWords LMAO!
The worst sin in entertainment is not to be bad. It is to be mediocre. And Vic Tokai so often succumbed to that fate.

I played this with game genie codes and was still frustrated

It looks incredible honestly
