Was building an military force bigger than the combined Arab forces by 1947 an act of aggression? If not, why was the increase of Arab forces a justified reason for the pre-emptive strikes that started the 6 day war?

"Jewish requests for access to their holy places during the period of British rule of Palestine were focused on the Western Wall, not on the Temple Mount, which was, in any case, off-limits according to the Jewish prohibition against entering the latter. The struggle between Muslims and Jews was concentrated on the latter's desire to secure regulated access to the wall on the mount's western side.[5] As early as 1920, rabbi Avraham Yitzhak ha-Kohen Kook stated that though in other hands, the Temple Mount would eventually come into Jewish possession, a declaration which was interpreted by the mufti Amin al-Husseini as evidence of a political plot to wrest control of the Haram itself. In the ensuing period, the Temple Mount became something of a "state within a state" which the British authorities would not enter even when it became the centre for the Arab Revolt, until the mufti fled the site.[5] The King's Order-in-Council issued by the government authorities of Mandatory Palestine in 1934 regulated the legal situation of the site by confirming the religious status quo regarding sovereignty reigning from Ottoman times.[7]" - Wikipedia.

I like how he is so dumbfounded by the question, like it has never been asked in the cirklejerks he inhabits, then he realizes that he doesn't even have a good answer (very telling body language). It's not even like it's impossible to argue that Zionist have been the aggressors at times through history, but he is so blinded by the narrative that they have always been the aggressors, he thinks it's not even worth looking into.

Maybe they were aggressors when, according to the Torah and the Bible, the people of Israel wiped out the 7 tribes of Canaan...but that was several thousands of years ago.
You likely can find cases of Jews being aggressors, but compared to Muslims being aggressors...whew.

That to me signified two things 1- Dan Cohen is not keeping himself in check with regards to motivated reasoning- important thing to do as a journalist and 2. He was more than willing to use the ignorance of his interlocutor as a weapon against him rather than being able to rely on the facts as he saw them. I think he underestimated Steven’s confidence in his knowledge, and panicked a bit and then started with that ad hominem “you’re not a jew” “are you a scholar?” “I’m a journalist who has been in Gaza so I know what I’m talking about” implying Steven couldn’t be right because he’s not as well informed or committed to the topic. It’s not always wrong to discredit an opponent on the basis of credentials, but it’s usually weak and when you reach for it in a debate really matters. If you use it as a pivot and make one accusation after another, you are essentially conceding that you don’t have any good counter arguments.

for a professional, this guy was kind of disappointing. Maybe insulting the person you're having a conversation makes sense in the journalism world, but that's not what you do when you're trying to be taken seriously. You don't tell someone how much more you know, you display how much more you know. You don't tell someone how much better you are, you display your abilities and the audience sees it for themself. It's like telling someone they can trust you or that you're a good person. That's a waste of time. They'll figure that out on their own if that's how you come off. Insulting the person you’re talking to doesn’t make sense in journalism either. I’m pretty sure it’ll cause them to shut down. You can give a really hardball interview without insulting anyone.

I assume he’s treating this as seriously as if he was reporting on it for his job. It sounds like his tactics here are his professional tactics as well, which makes me question his credibility as a professional. I’m admittedly making the mistake of confounding professional with someone who can think clearly. Presidents can be idiots, streamers can be idiots, lawyers and journalists can be idiots. It was unfair for me to assume being a journalist meant you didn’t make the most rudimentary thinking mistakes. There’s probably some useful rhetoric in making those kinds of mistakes. It worked really well for President Trump in the US, for example.

Dude is just straight up wrong about "Jews didn't pray at the Western Wall until Zionism." The notes thing is more modern (though potentially as far back as the mid-1700s), but *praying* at the western wall was a long-established practice.
Chronicle of Ahimaaz (c. 1050 AD): "He devoted to the Most High, that it might be counted as righteousness unto him, by Him that rideth upon the clouds, 20000 drachmae for... [inter alia] the oil of the sanctuary, at the western wall of the inner altar"
Itinerary of Benjamin of Tudela (12th century): "Jerusalem has four gates-the gate of Abraham, the gate of David, the gate of Zion, and the gate of Gushpat, which is the gate of Jehoshaphat, facing our ancient Temple, now called Templum Domini. Upon the site of the sanctuary Omar ben al Khataab erected an edifice with a very large and magnificent cupola, into which the Gentiles do not bring any image or effigy, but they merely come there to pray. In front of this place is the western wall, which is one of the walls of the Holy of Holies. This is called the Gate of Mercy, and thither come all the Jews to pray before the wall of the court of the Temple."

Israeli Zionist here , ex-religious. Think there is need for some clarification. Destiny was right , this guy is full of shit. Some very radical sects oppose praying in mount trample (Satmer are VERY VERY radical Orthodox Jews). It is important to remember that judaism is ethnicity, nationality c religion and culture. A Jewish person can be some of the above or all of the above. I’m an atheist jew. Raised Orthodox Jew in very religious schools. Zionism started as a secular movement acting more towards the ethnic-nationalist identity of being Jewish. They wanted to include all Jews and of course some didn’t wanted to be included but the majority definitely did. The only land everyone could agree on was of course Israel , their ancestral homeland. Back than it was names Palestine ( a colonial name given by the Romans) and 70% of it was in public ownership. Which means the ruler (ottoman and later British Empire) owned it and thus they legally purchased many areas of the land. The British agreed to give undisclosed territory in undisclosed time to the Jews for a state as well as the Arabs (and that’s how Jordan was created). Starting WW2 the Jews in Israel/Palestine worked hard to save other Jews from EU. The Arabs objected anyway they could. Many were Hitler supporters. It’s important to know that by then there was a shift even among the most religious Jews of the radical sects. Why? Because the reason they believe they shouldn’t come back to israel is because something that call the 3 oaths that god made israel and the other nations to swear to him. One of its oath is that Israelis won’t come back to Israel before the time comes. But the other oath is that the nation of the world swears not to be especially cruel to the Jews. Now some of the even more radical sects believe the oath of the nations were broken (other sects believe it was broken long ago. After all, 3000 years old nation with only 17M Jews at the time … do the math) .
Palestine is a colonial name and most Palestinians are the descendants of mass Arab immigrants in the 19th century looking for work. That being said, Israel and the Jewish problem NEVER wanted to kick all the Arabs out. They agreed to virtually all peace agreements while the Arabs rejected them all.
Another important point I think this debate needed:
There are 22 Arab countries, not a single one is a democracy, in fact even on Palestinian Territories they don’t have a democracy. What makes anyone think the Palestinians would succeed where all the Arab nations failed ? And what makes people not to criticize Palestinian and Arabs alike for the reason democracy isn’t established along with basic human rights? There needed to be a basic strong radical shift in Palestinian mindset and the story they tell themselves before peace can be established

@@peterjohnson5132If Israelis were in the position the Palestinians are now, they would be the international jewry depicted in every antsemitic antizionist conspiracy: with the hands in every pocket, their cronies in the left wing elite in politics and academia and the UN as its puppet.
The difference is that the Palestinians have all of that and still are considered the dregs of the earth. Sucks to suck, eh? 🎉

I too think it speaks volumes that destiny thinks the Arabs would just murder all Jews once they become a majority in a 1 state solution. It’s very telling.

This guy from Arizona does not know what he is talking about with regards to a Jew getting an Israeli passport within a few days it takes years after you become a citizen to be eligible for an Israeli passport. It amazes me how people have opinions on something they don't know about, it's easy being an armchair know-it-all

Ad hominem (Latin for 'to the person'), short for argumentum ad hominem, refers to several types of arguments, most of which are fallacious. Typically this term refers to a rhetorical strategy where the speaker attacks the character, motive, or some other attribute of the person making an argument rather than attacking the substance of the argument itself. This avoids genuine debate by creating a personal attack as a diversion often using a totally irrelevant, but often highly charged attribute of the opponent's character or background. The most common form of this fallacy is "A" makes a claim of "fact," to which "B" asserts that "A" has a personal trait, quality or physical attribute that is repugnant thereby going entirely off-topic, and hence "B" concludes that "A" has their "fact" wrong -without ever addressing the point of the debate.
Other ad hominem arguments may be encountered in specialized philosophical usage. These typically refer to the dialectical strategy of using the target's own beliefs and arguments against them, while not agreeing with the validity of those beliefs and arguments. Ad hominem arguments were first studied in ancient Greece; John Locke revived the examination of ad hominem arguments in the 17th century. Many contemporary politicians routinely use ad hominem attacks, which can be encapsulated to a derogatory nickname for a political opponent
