      Is that the year Yamaha introduced the five valve heads, but before they put the cylinder on backwards compared to conventional cylinders?

      It's definitely interesting to try, my buddy and I swapped bikes for like 10 minutes one day both were 250s but mine was a two stroke and his was a thumper.
      Granted I'm biased having only ridden two stroke bikes my whole life with about two decades of experience on em now, I can see the pros and cons to both 2t and 4t. The 4t bike my buddy had was definitely smooth and felt more planted when cracking or letting off the throttle, but the acceleration felt underwhelming despite hearing how fast the engine was revving. The stronger engine braking was nice, but took some getting used to.
      Meanwhile I could hear him still giggling backing off the gas into the corners on my bike, he realized it was a bit much of a powerband for his liking but still enjoyed it and called me a crazy bastard for riding it lol. They're just a bit too squirrely unless you got throttle control down, but once I hopped on my bike again it just felt so flickable and free moving.
      Personally I still prefer two strokes, but living in the rockies now (previously south florida) I wouldn't mind considering also getting a four stroke. Definitely get a lot more arm pump on tight twisty mountain trails trying to keep from bogging out, might try a heavier flywheel before spending the cash on a thumper though. It would be nice to have smoother less snappy power at times.

      @@100GTAGUY man, that's awesome! So, I just rode my wr450f on the dirt in the woods for the first time in well over a year. I had an absolute blast and got more and more comfortable. I really do love the 3rd brake (engine braking), as it just gives you more confidence going faster into a corner and knowing you can use some natural braking without even hitting the brakes. Also, of course it just felt very planted and manageable. The estart is glorious! Now, the YZ250 is a blast because it has no engine braking, is much lighter and flickable, and is a freaking animal with gobs of power! I love both!
      Now, you said your two stroke is bogging down near or at idle? I am literally just now putting together a video on what I believe is a major fix for this that most people don't know about: The jet block gasket. Mine needed it badly, and my quick test ride at home confirms it. It's a different bike now.

  • @yzinger9878
    @yzinger9878 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i dont think this is a fair comparison because sometimes 125 2 strokes race with 250 4 strokes. white 250 2 is in the 450 class, if the person decides to race a 2 stroke in the 450

    • @100GTAGUY
      @100GTAGUY 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's definitely fair, seeing as these newer four strokes have nearly 15+ years more of R&D put into them while two strokes really haven't, at least in regards to dirt bikes snowmobiles on the other hand are making nearly 200hp with a 700cc 2t. The AMA introduced that rule because older four strokes did have a good bit of power/weight disadvantage back in 2005 about when this was introduced.
      2006/2008 smokers are now basically going toe to toe HP wise with 2022 thumper models of the same displacement. Some tracks but not the AMA in their entirety are allowing four strokes and two strokes of the same displacement to race in their respective CC classes.
