As bad as this was it could have been MUCH MUCH worse! Shortly before the invasion the precursor to the special forces were dropped into Normandy to find and destroy german 88mm artillery guns that would have been able to fire on not only the beach but the landing crafts and ships themselves. Had it not been for them there was a significant chance the entire invasion would have been stopped.

Comment from young man in lower left corner "I cannot believe this, I really can't". Real warfare is much worse. I never once saw an American Marine or Soldier fail to do their duty in battle during m 18 months in Vietnam. I served alongside very brave 18, 19, 20 and 21 years old Americans.
"I cannot believe this" Believe it, because it really happened. All of it. Be thankful you live in a country where we have the freedoms because of the brave warriors like these men and women that fought then and still do today.
The idea now is to avoid the kind of brutality. Sadly, it still happens, and given everything going on right now, it wouldn't be surprising that if one day they told us we have to go and fight. (Saying as a 19K at Fort Bliss)
This generation hasn't grown up with many veterans. I grew up surrounded by World War 2, Korean, and Vietnam, veterans. Today, aside from those who fought in the War on Terror, being a combat veteran is rare.
My Dad was a U.S. Army medic in Europe during the war. In reality, on Omaha, it was more than 300 yards from the water's edge to the shingle where they were able to take cover. 300 yards under fire with virtually no cover.
It is interesting to see people that have never been in combat react to people being blown to pieces. In most war movies it is a very santized version of combat that people see. I hope none of them experience your best friend exploding right next to you. Perhaps you will thank a vet for their service.
All the man and woman in the armed forces see too much of this and more. I am really thankful to all the veterans that made the ultimate sacrifice and all the time and effort they to in the military. One great general once said “War is cruelty, you can’t refine it”
My father and father-in-law went through this, never talked about it until they saw this film. They said, "The movie is accurate as far it goes, but in reality it was much, much worse."
Now unfortunately most of these guys are gone. When this movie first came out many D-day vets said this was a pretty realistic depiction of the day. I cant even imagine.

And there are people on this planet who still think war is good. I bet they wouldn't if they were the ones who had to go through something even remotely like this....
The most brutal scene of this massacre would've been 3:05, all that work for nothing. Just a tragic way to go, the small glimmer of hope whisked away just like that.
Who said why wasnt i warned... This is the real thing. War is absolute carnage and hell. This was accurate but irl it was probably wayyy worse than this.
And people made fun of the book "The Greatest Generation." Think again. These men were no different from the people watching the movie...terrified as hell, but they went forward anyway. Because it had to be done.
Honestly the Germans were supreme powerful and the logistics, armament and determination they had. My respects to the American, British, Russian soldiers and the other Allies. The only thing left to say is learn about the war and this experiences, i think nobody wants this in its home or fight far away of home in this hell. God bless you all.

I find it hard to believe that none of these youtubers grandparents, well, maybe great grandparents now, didnt serve. Both of my grandfathers served in WWII. High School friends in Desert Storm and myself in Iraq. Surely they have some grasp or concept of war. Maybe not. Grandfathers probably had it the worst and never, ever talked about shit. Well, neither did the Vietnam guys honestly.
Something many will never understand, a lot of these men (18-21), volunteered to be there. They knew the evil that was present and felt an obligation to humanity to do what they could to stop it. Most men couldn't handle, it, either. Only 10% of any army is infantry, the rest is support. Not to mention many nations have used women as combat forces and made do, among the Russia in WW2 and the Kurds against Daesh. Choosing some female TH-cam reactor as your example of how a combat-ready woman would act in battle is beyond asinine.
