    Hey Dboy0113. There are several major differences between the S550 and S600. The main difference is the engine. The S600 has a 6 liter bi-turbo V12 that puts out 523 horsepower and a massive 612 lb-ft of torque. The 0-60 on an S600 is 4.5 seconds. The other main difference besides the engine and power is the fact that it comes pretty much with every option. Except for colors and a few customization things. Basically you could consider the S600 to be the fully loaded or top of the line model. That is, excluding the AMG versions. The S550 has a 4.7 liter bi-turbo V8 that puts out 449 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 in an S550 is 4.8 seconds. The S600 has a starting price of $166,900. My honest opinion is an S600 is for someone who still wants maximum luxury and plenty of power. However, if power is really your goal the AMG's are worth a look. There is the S63 which is the V8 version and does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds or the S65 which is the V12 version and it does it in 4.2 seconds. The main thing with the S65 is it has 621 horsepower and a borderline insane 738 lb-ft of torque.

    • @PhilsMorningDrive
      @PhilsMorningDrive  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** To be honest I like them both. For overall luxury and technology Mercedes gets my vote. When it comes to a driving experience I would choose BMW because I tend to swing more towards sporty driving versus out and out luxury. However, an AMG Mercedes can solve both of those problems.

      @@PhilsMorningDrive No one is being kind they are just telling you the truth your review style is laid back not overhyped like so many others which is refreshing .I liked that you touched on so many aspects of the car and not just rattled off specs . Also the night drive was excellent and full of useful information that not many do. You really captured the feeling of driving one. I have a older 2007 that is loaded and even the old one gives you a relaxed feeling and reduces stress just by driving it. Do not change keep the same style and presentation it works and gives people a thoughtfull insight and real world prospective on this car.

    Thanks for the good review. I'm curious about the heated steering wheel. I thought the button to the left of the driver with the steering wheel on it controlled that, but that is for Steering Assist. So, how does one turn on the heated steering wheel?

    • @StreakingTiger
      @StreakingTiger 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry - downloaded the manual and found it. Located at end of steering column up/down adjustment lever left of steering wheel. Dang - it only lights up when the switch is on, so hard to know. Cadillac CTS has it right on the steering wheel controls. My old 2002 Nissan Maxima GLE just had a simple button that was easy to locate. Geez - these Germans and their ideas.

    • @PhilsMorningDrive
      @PhilsMorningDrive  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +James Towle Thanks for the kind words. I have not driven the 2016 version but since they did a total re-do for 2015 the only changes will be minor. Maybe a new color or a new option of two but nothing major. As far as the Audi I prefer the Mercedes especially if you are looking for all out luxury. BMW's new 7-Series has really come to the party to match the S-Class with technology. The Audi is a great car and perhaps a touch sporty than the S-Class. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

    how would you compare this car with a Rolls Royce Phantom. because, i am looking to buy the phantom soon but not sure if i should buy this or the phantom.

    • @PhilsMorningDrive
      @PhilsMorningDrive  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a tough call Nav. Both are very luxurious and both offer V12's. Naturally a lot of what you are buying with the Phantom is the prestige of owning a Rolls-Royce which has long been considered the top luxury car in the world. I can agree with that. The Phantom's interior is even more luxurious than the Mercedes. They use only the finest materials in the world for a Rolls-Royce. The other thing to consider is the price difference in some cases a new S-Class is half the price of a new Phantom. The Mercedes also has some of the most advanced safety, comfort, and entertainment technology. So technically speaking the Mercedes outshines the Rolls when it comes to gadgetry. The bottom line: If you want the most luxurious car in the world get the Rolls-Royce. If you want the best Mercedes and one of the most technologically advanced cars in the world pick the S-Class. You really can't go wrong with either car.

    • @navraja3167
      @navraja3167 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Phil's Morning Drive thanks on your opinion. can you elaborate on the entertainment system that the phantom offers compared to the mercedes S class. i went online and no source could really give me the information i required. hoping you can. thank you.

    • @PhilsMorningDrive
      @PhilsMorningDrive  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nav Raja from what I know about it the Rolls caters more to the rear passengers. For example if you choose something called the theater option it will give you two rear screens that I believe are about 12 inches. You will also have the ability to play different sources through each and each rear passengers has their own headphones. The Mercedes offers rear seat entertainment that I would say is in the same category. As for the sounds system the S-Class features one of the best Burmeister systems in the world. It features 24 speakers, 3D sound and over 1500 watts of power. The trunk mounted subwoofer has its own dedicated 400 watt amp. Now I am not sure what brand or how many watts the Rolls-Royce features but I do know that it has the usual options, iPod, aux input, etc. Back to the Mercedes the Burmeister system is standard on S600 and a $6400 option on S550. I hope this helps.

  • @teeduke2918
    @teeduke2918 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    the thing is i love the s-classes but i just don't think the AMG's offer that much more then the s600. you take a fully loaded s65 AMG with all the option in the car and you talking about $240 grand. you take a fully loaded s600 and you are talking about $180 grand. the s600 ( to me ) has a better interior design with their "Designo aniline leather". it's freaking awesome! they both use a v-12 engine although the s65 AMG have more horse power. i just like the s600 better and would rather purchase the s600 and save about 40-50 grand in my pocket.

    113k and you complain about the price....heh....americans sure are cheap when it comes to cars and don't realize how expensive cars are in the rest of the world. For this money, you can't get a base S class in Europe with a 6 cyl engine. Hell you can't get an E class with a decent engine (not a V8 definitely) and mid-level equipment.

    $113.000?! Wow, cars are cheap in the US. Would set me back at least $312.000 here.

      Are you in Australia by any chance or New Zealand.
      Japanese cars are cheap in Australia. A lexus GS 450H which is a magnificent car can be had for about $100K. They are easily on par with the S class in terms of quality and reliability.
      Lexus like their brother (Toyota) never break down and they are pure smooth to drive.

      We don't use US dollars or Euro in Denmark. I was translating the currency into dollars. It does cost at least $312.000 here. The 500-series is all available. In addition theres' the AMG models. Actually I had it checked out and the S600 is prized at $324.000 US dollars at my local MB dealership August 2015. They didn't have the current list prize for the S500 but you can pretty much deduct some average there.

    Mmmmm.....decent review, but the reviewers delivery is rather awkward. If we were having a conversation it would be fine...but he's not grasped the technique required for concise voice over on video. Too many um's and ah's, incomplete thoughts and sentences.

      But the message was clear. Who really bothers about formality these day? You...that's who!
