I lived above a Hungarian meat shop on the corner of Spadina and Baldwin ,when I was 7 years old . Back then in the early 60,s it was called the Jewish market . So many good memories growing up there .The smells of the bakeries meat shops ,fish stands ,fresh fruits was such a delight as a young kid. . Nice history lesson of the past.
You’re absolutely right! As a kid in the 60’s….it was known to us all as the Jewish market. The majority of shops were Jewish owned. I remember shopping with mom and they had live chickens in front of the store. The smell of fresh bread, smoked meats was overwhelmingly wonderful. Unbelievable variety of great cheeses and free samples too. Ahh…to be able to go back in time!
@@barbaraleszczynski2214 .I now live in Florida ,and like you I wish I could go back in time just for a little bit . It's sad to see how the place looks now .
No mention of Shopsy's Restaurant seen at 13:17. A few little mentions of the garment and textile trade and the fur trade that filled the factories in this area, but not enough said of its importance in Toronto and in Canada. There was a time all our clothes were locally made, not overseas. And the fur trade was a huge part of Canada's history.
Nice. I grew up on nearby Robert Street, 1970's. Memories of College/Spadina, El Mocambo, Kensington Mkt, Lord Lansdowne P.S., Silver Dollar, Waverly Hotel etc.
They turned the CIBC building into a Facade for a Condo. The TD Bank building is also gonna be a Condo. Spadina and Queen is just Condos and McDonald's. Queen and Soho is also a Condo and Mountain Eq Coop. Glad i lived it. This Gen have no idea how screwed they got. We had the best fun on Queen St. Legendary.

I'm confused. Wasnt the Alhambre Theatre on Bloor St. near Bathurst?
The noisome, canting, would-be worthies take their leave and the real video begins at 5:46.
