Headsail roller Furler assembly and parts overview. Profurl.

  • A quick breakdown and explanation of how a roller furling system is assembled and how it functions.
    This particular unit/brand is a Profurl, from a Leopard 43 catamaran, But most systems are very similar in their construction and function.
    The main reason I replaced this particular unit is because the bearings in Profurl units aren’t particularity high quality, And tend to be fairly stiff from day one.
    I replaced it with a much higher quality/performance unit - a Bamar C3.
    If you have any questions regarding furling systems, please feel free to ask them in the comments.
    Proudly from St Pete, Florida.

    Thanks so much for taking the time to create this video. I've been thinking of adding a furler to my inner staysail and this really helped me visualize the components!

    OMG this is so useful to see. I have to troubleshoot my furler and understanding the inside parts makes it so much easier. Thank you for posting! (Nauticat 515/Greece)

    Nice video I have this exact same furler and was trying to work out how it is all assembled and your video showed it all.
    I need to tighten the stay wire and I can now see that I will need to remove the sail. Remove the top bolts and the side bolts and slide the drum up to get access to the adjusting mechanism. Thanks so much👍😊

    Hi there, I have a pro furl system and I have to replace my forestay, it has not been used for a long time as I bought the yacht as a deceased estate. We have managed to unfurl the headsail after much work and its furling in and out. The problem I have is that I can't get the sail down or up after releasing the halyard, the sail seems to be stuck in the track ? Would you have any thoughts please? Regards, Greg

    • @theyachtriggerstpete
      @theyachtriggerstpete  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you been aloft to check that the halyard itself isn't jammed at the masthead? It's also possible that the top swivel has been hoisted up over the top of the foils and is jammed on them. Unlikely that the sail is actually stuck in the track, but we have seen that happen occasionally when the luff cloth gets a small fold in it - but it's really hard to hoist like that.

      @@theyachtriggerstpete Ok, thanks for that, I'll go up again and check it out, it's hardly rocket science I guess ? Ha Ha. Thanks Greg
