    Far better method than other demonstrations on YT. These other “outdoorsmen” tie configurations only a kitten playing with a ball of string could create. Much, much better.

    That was the simplest easiest explanation of the ailens I have seen.

    I use loop aliens for the fixed end of my ridge line but never found a simple way to keep the tension with a simple hitch that doesn't strain my paracord or require complex wraps. I usually use a Nite Ize figure 9, but don't like the potential tearing it can inflict on my tarp when packed up. This method is brilliant - simple to remember, easy to use, and easy to break it down. What I particularly like is that by feeding a bight through, you don't have to feed all of the tag (or as you say, tail) end through the loop alien. Nicely done! Cheers from Canada.

    Just made a trucker’s hitch more expensive and more cumbersome. Nice!

    Okay I bought one and tried to do a ridgeline while watching a few different videos. This one actually helped. Thank you.

    Thank you; I have always used a trucker’s hitch, but these devices came with my Onewind tarp, and I will try them out (at home, not in the field), and see if they work as well. Your video was very clear, and may work for me. Stay safe, and enjoy the forest.

    Thanks for video. So many videos and products, but I think I will stop for now and settle on buying a couple of these as one of these on each end combined with toggles looped onto the online prusik's on each end could make for a very quick deploy scenario. The other systems (Toggle / Marlin Spike), nite ize 9's and convention truckers hitch) either create more friction or bite into the ridgeline.

    I might add a few of them to my kit however have you seen the Dave Canterbury quick ridge line video and there are a few others that have changed my set up. Basically you end up with a ridge line, cords with prussik knots on it and a hook. You wrap and clip the hook one end and then wrap and clip one of the prussik knots to the cord the other end. It really clever and works a lot like the loop alien.

    Excellent tutorial young lady, I just bought 10 of these tensioners and needed your valuable instructions. Would you trust these with a hammock? What about larger diameter paracord?
    Thank you so much..

    • @TheCraftyWoodsman
      @TheCraftyWoodsman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you found it helpful. I not tried them with hammocks but I wouldn’t use them as there is a lot more force being applied and they are thin metal. I also wouldn’t use paracord for hammock suspension as it has too much stretch, use dynema whooping slings or daisy chain slings as these won’t stretch.

    Hi there, very clear video! Do you use one of these at each end of the paracord?

    • @TheCraftyWoodsman
      @TheCraftyWoodsman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Neil, you only need to use one at one end. The other end is fixed and the loop alien allows you to apply the tension to the cord to prevent it sagging.

    Why not just tie a knot?

    • @TheCraftyWoodsman

      Glenn Robin normally we do, there are several options that work. This is just an alternative way of getting ridge line tension.

    • @Zawfee

      I could see one reason being that you dont have to untie a knot. As I'm sure you've experienced untying a very tight knot from paracord is a pain.
