Loved, loved visiting him a couple of years ago and his wines are exceptional. In Aurelien's hands the future of Bourgueil and Loire cab franc is in very good hands!!
Aurélien is a really special vigneron indeed, Tom! The Bourgueil appellation is lucky to have him. I, too, felt a real sense that he is not only a great ambassador for the region, but is a true believer in the potential of Cabernet Franc as a communicator of place. The nose was very shy on opening. Generally speaking, Cabernet Franc needs lots of oxygen to be at its best, I find (or time in the bottle!). This is a great wine though. You should be able to find Aurélien's Sur Les Hats and Grand Mont stateside for sure, possibly the Aubuis. But it is definitely an estate worth exploring. I bought a few bottles of Revillot’s wines after watching your review a few days ago. I tried this 2020 Aubuis first yesterday, your review was spot on. In PnP it had a lot of tart and mineral notes but after having the rest today, I fully agree with your review. As always great review and thanks again for your vids!
This is awesome, Joon! It always great to hear when someone has had a similar experience as I did with a particular wine. I have found more often than not, Cabernet Franc just gets WAY better with oxygen, so that's great that you left a bit to revisit the following day. I try to do that as often as I can too.
