    I really liked this video (except camera was blocked at times). Who is this guy? His instruction was clear and concise - easy to follow. Safety tip for tongue was good - my dog keeps sticking her tongue out to lick - scary! Best grooming video I've seen so far.

    Still a fairly new groomer here, and I have had the toughest time getting yorkie heads to look exactly right. I've damn near had to teach myself everything I know, so I've been hunting youtube for exactly the kind of pet trim for a yorkie head that I'm looking to do. This is BY FAR the most helpful video I have found. Thank you so much! I knew this technique, but actually getting to see it done from start to finish on a well behaved dog is so helpful. also, he is NOT being rough. He has extremely sharp scissors near that dogs eyes, and thin skin. For its own safety, it needs to stay still.

      Right? I thought the same. I'm learning how to become a groomer without going to school bc I've read we don't need it. But I've owned dogs my whole life. Good luck!

      @@ovsog.4979 I've heard that "we don't need it" jazz - and then the dog comes in looking like someone took a lawn mower to it an we are asked to pull off a miracle and make Buffy look cute again. Or, worse, Buffy comes in missing some body part - I've seen that as well.
      If you don't want to take proper classes, at least start out as a bather in a shop and get training from a good groomer on how to build up your skill level. The problem with amateurs is they don't know what they don't know.

    Guys. If he let the dog (who is distracted NOT afraid) move however it wants it’s going to lose an ear or tongue. If the dog were in distress it wouldn’t let him do anything on him. The dog is just distracted by everything behind the camera and is being nosy. The guy is correcting him while also keeping the dog still so it doesn’t get hurt.

      He's aware. The dog is working with the groomer very well, allowing him to groom much more quickly. When you see a good groomer working with a good dog, it can look rough but it's just that the dog is being very cooperative and letting the groomer do what needs to be done. The groomer can work much quicker, which means the dog doesn't have to be on the table as long. Many groomers battle with their dogs which makes for a longer grooming time, a frustrated groomer, a stressed dog and potentially a less than perfect cut.

    • @NussyBeth
      @NussyBeth 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Our pets need to be clean and groomed for their own health. If you want them to be done in a specific style that doesn't hurt the dog in anyway. I am a professional groomer and dogs LOVE to come see me, its like a fucking spa day. So, you know, opinions are like assholes, but i needed to say something. This man does a great job so shushh.

    • @Inamichan
      @Inamichan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If he doesn’t control the dogs movements the dog will get cut. It’s simple. He lets the dog move and do what he wants the dog gets cut wrong or get injured.

    • @cybercitizen4545
      @cybercitizen4545 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Julie Suffi - I agree! seems like more work (cutting) than necessary. The time factor could be reduced also. That's important when time is also a factor in competition.

    • @kelleymarie22
      @kelleymarie22 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Julie Suffi I do the shape with scissors and then lightly blend any lines or scissor marks with thinners. I've always thought that thinners from start to finish is too time consuming to be practical in a salon.

People have to realize that dogs think differently than we do and the sweet, "I love my baby" method isn't really working for the mentality of the dog. I love your scissoring method and it looks very nice on these dogs. See, the dog isn't complaining at all if will probably get a treat at the end. Nice job!

      carlos SUAREZ There's a huge difference between being firm and being rough. If you don't keep a firm grip the dog will move, most of the time INTO the blade, and that's how injuries happen.

    • @cybercitizen4545
      @cybercitizen4545 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +pandaclausable Very well said; so often pet owners see what they think is rough handling and it is just the groomer re-establishing a level of humane control applicable to the breeds temperment. A moment of control to safely and quickly complete a groom task. Few pet groomers are able to humanely have a pets obedience and cooperation needed to use the show techniques that produce the show grooms like show groomers can with competition conditioned and trained dogs.

    • @jkma9213
      @jkma9213 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +New Citizen I'm sorry I don't agree with you, but not pet should be treated as "object" no matter the circumstances. I own a Pet Spa in the State of Florida and trust me, my groomers would be fired if I see them treat ca doggie like that. I have one master groomer and she is so loving and caring with the furbabies. We have a good reputation around town because people that care about their pets, don't want their pets to be treated as " objects or be "conditioned" as such. I own two dogs and I would never let anybody to treat my pets like that; is just my humble opinion and also because I care too much. BTW, there was a convention today in Orlando that lasted 3 days, since Friday. I went today, and only a couple of groomers were very rough, the rest were actual nice with the pets.

    • @cybercitizen4545
      @cybercitizen4545 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Jk Ma I think you have several issues. One is as you said...."He never praises the pet". The second issue may be that he is a male in a female dominated profession. So .... if I may I shall address your issue that "he never praises the pet". The pet (dog) is obviously a Terrier. Terrier breeds have a temperament that should and must be handled with a firm hand and voice exhibiting a tone of confidence. Jonathon has obviously established himself the alpha one in this grooming relationship. Praising a terrier is the manner I think you want to hear would undermine the important control needed to safely groom any terrier. Second issue; I detect you may be somewhat jealous of Jonathon's gender command and control of the dog. Male groomers do have an ability to control/manage certain dog breeds and dog temperaments better that many female groomers. A fact many in the grooming field don't like. Anyhow control using a soft feminine pat on the head, and sweet talk praise are not for "Terrier" breeds when grooming them.
