  • All the features and behind a stop motion puppet and how we made it. Hollow head, moving eyes, hair, eyebrows, eyelids, replacement mouths, etc.
    Puppets must perform a wide range of movements and emotions, so at the end it is a piece of technology, craft and art to enable animators make them alive.

      hi Adriana, making puppets is a mixture of a lot of arts. I would search here in youtube for tutorials and then make a simple one. Test it and go from there. Next level would be to involve in a specific course to learn it somewhere that you can find teaching stopmotion

    I just found your channel through @retrotechjournal, a guy wort of some sponsoring 😉. I love how you share your work, giving insight on how the rigs and winders are made too.
    I've always wanted to do some stop motion animation myself and even have a camera with some special single shot and onion skin features but never got around to really use this since I had no idea how to move my puppets. Maybe starting of with some Lego minifigs is also not the best way to start and those plastic and wooden drawing models are not suitable for (smooth moving) stop motion at all. Your rigs and armatures look great, I should try making one of these myself so I started binge watching all your videos to get some ideas on how to convert my mechanical and machining skills into some kind of usable armature.

    Some questions, but what an awesome video, thank you so much! My questions are:
    1. What clay did you use for the head? Did it dry completely and become solid?
    2. When you made the silicone form did you just create a big square of silicone around it and cut it with a knife into the clay?
    3. What materials did you use for the eyes?
    4. How did you create the interior eye holder that the eye moves around in?
    Thank you so much! Cheers
    Lars

    • @edupuertasfruns
      @edupuertasfruns  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lots of qüestions.
      For the head I used Nsp medium from chavant. It is a sculpting plasticine. From this you make a silicone mould and then a poliurethane skull.
      The shape of the silicone mould is what a box you make dictates.
      Eyes are casted poliurethane machined round and the socket is like half a joint but made in acrilic

    Hi Edu, great video, and beautifully crafted puppet! I'm a bit confused about the eye mechanism, perhaps it's hard to see on camera. I can't tell what's holding the white ring at the back of the eye in place, and what the bigger oval strip/string is doing and where it's hold in place. I can tell that the white ring is holding the eye in place and that the screw hitting the ring edges is stopping it from moving too far but can't tell what's holding the rings itself?

    What is the casting material that you used? Is it a type of resin?

    What type of resin are you using? It seems that it dries quick. I used your lego silicone molding technique and it work like a charm. Now I'm using 24 hours curing resing and it not making hollow head like yours. What type of resin are you using?

    Thanks for making this video. but can you make a video on how to build a stop motion puppet head that doesn't use replacement parts? Also if you don't have latex and silicon, are there other materials you can use to finish your puppets skin?

    • @edupuertasfruns
      @edupuertasfruns  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will, normally non replacement head are made from plasticine or by having a silicone skin. Inside a silicon skin head the technology is huge.

      Thanks edu puertas for your response. Are there other materials, besides silicon and latex that you can use as skin for your puppet? Liquid latex/silicone are not easy to come by here.
