Y'know a lot of people, including his own siblings, accuse Sheldon of never caring. That said, I like to think that, given the fact that he said he's never told that to ANYONE, a small part of him didn't want them to be hurt by it, regardless of whether they eventually found out or not.
That was a brilliant bit of writing. They gave Sheldon this quirk, yet explained it in a rational way that was surprising, and gave it the gravity and weight to drive home why Sheldon picked up the tick.

Sheldon gives a good reason to one of his unusual habits, on a touchy subject and its effects of his childhood and his relationships with others...and the show hits the laugh track. Why? Because the writers think this is funny. They think that Sheldon's realistic childhood trauma is hilarious, and the way he is trying to avoid hurting others more hilarious. Considering that the writers tried to use Asperger's Syndrome to explain Sheldon's personalty, mocking his ordeal feels cruel. But hey. He's a geek. I have a theory, after Sheldon left for college Mary had no one to focus all of her energy on , and she and George drifted apart because she didn’t know what to do with herself

In a short biopic about the disparities of what we know from TBBT and Young Sheldon they mentioned that George is described as a really hard and harsh character in TBBT. However, they chose not to have him be abusive and argumentative in Young Sheldon as those producing the show didn’t feel that it would be received well by audiences (new and old). I was SO very pleased with how the writers of "Young Sheldon" handled this on their show, with it being Mary doing "cosplay sex" with husband George, and NOT George cheating on her. Just sad that Mary never realized Sheldon saw them, and thusly couldn't correct his mistaken memory.
It just occurred to me that out of every member of the show every single one of them was a genius on some form or another. Everybody thinks that penny is a dumb one but it just occurs to me that she is a social genius. She is the only one of the group who actually legitimate social skills and the ability to adapt to new environments. She used that skill to become a sales genius make a ton of money. You don't need a doctorate degree or even a masters wink-wink Howard to the a genius and successful. It comes to mind as I see her giving intelligent advice on relationships to Sheldon
Penny is the one that can Sheldon to open up on stuff he never tells anybody. Even Amy. Which is a reason I feel that she has some jealously on their close bond.

In the latest episode of Young Sheldon, this came to fruition... Sheldon and Mary arrives back to home from Germany and Sheldon's dedicated apartment in the university has a roommate. Sheldon Plays the roomate's videogame throughout the night and conquers it without cheating so he arrives home in the late morning/afternoon. Mary is with George is in their bedroom sexually cosplaying as "Helga" in a German dirndl (interesting as that Heidelberg is not in Bavaria but not far off in Baden-Württemberg ergo the dirndls would not be there being traditionally Bavarian) and Mary cosplaying speaks to George seductively in a German Accent. Sheldon knocks and seen George with "the other woman" Case Closed with a sigh of relief.

Penny and Sheldon seem like such unlikely friends, but their friendship on this show was a beautiful thing. The fact Sheldon could open up to Penny more than anyone else (including Amy, at times) shows that he trusted her. And she repaid that trust by being a real friend to him
For the better part of three seasons you can tell Sheldon and Penny only tolerated one another because of Leonard, and you can tell it shocked Penny when Sheldon admitted he was glad they were still friends after her and Leonard broke up. I think that’s where their bond really took off, when they both realized they still wanted to be friends despite the fact technically at that point in time they didn’t have to tolerate each other anymore.

From what I able to understand, makers did wanted to show George having affair with Brenda. However the character of George turned out to be quite wholesome and larger than life with fans. That made the infidelity angle bothersome to them. To mitigate this, they relied on Sheldon’a ability to be unrelated narrator and give it a hilarious twist. PS- I am personally happy that George and Mary didn’t cheat on each other at this stage of the show. Though I am not sure if they did in any of previous seasons.
Everyone needs to remember that this is told through Sheldon’s memory and when you finally watch Young Sheldon you’ll know it may be different because it’s told in a different perspective

Yes, it was probably Sheldon biggest sad moment and they just ruined it because they didn’t have the balls to follow BBT and making Sheldon childhood tough and sad, instead they just make an other family sitcom where everyone is likeable while Sheldon is just a jerk. My main reason why I prefer BBT
My one problem with the retcon is that it happened after TBBT ended, so we never a scene where Sheldon comes clean to his mother about what he saw and she clears up the misunderstanding I was actually relieved with the retcon, they portrayed George as a loving father and family man, and they were portraying Mary as kinda selfish, so I a thought they were trying to JUSTIFY the infidelity, glad they didn’t
Sheldon and Penny are such great friends together. He doesn't have the same relationship with any of his other friends as he does with Penny
She & Leonard are his co-best friends. They tag-team relating to Sheldon & trying to help him.
I would say its more of a sibling relationship because as much as sheldon annoys penny, she always looks out for him.

This clip illustrates one of the biggest failings of the show: Not knowing when something is not funny. Sheldon gives a good reason to one of his unusual habits, on a touchy subject and its effects of his childhood and his relationships with others...and the show hits the laugh track.
Why? Because the writers think this is funny. They think that Sheldon's realistic childhood trauma is hilarious, and the way he is trying to avoid hurting others more hilarious. Considering that the writers tried to use Asperger's Syndrome to explain Sheldon's personalty, mocking his ordeal feels cruel.
But hey. He's a geek. And the show thinks any trauma a geek gets is funny
Its been retconned now. His father didnt cheat on him. His mom was cosplaying as a maid and Sheldon thought it was some other woman.
But didnt Sheldon talked abt that specific woman was trying to get friendly with him, buying him action figures or sum??
Possibly Mary was still in cosplay and genuinely just wanted to buy toys for her son.
I have a theory, after Sheldon left for college Mary had no one to focus all of her energy on , and she and George drifted apart because she didn’t know what to do with herself
That’s a likely reason since they were kind of together as they both worried about how to deal with sheldon with George worrying about how people would “tolerate” him and Mary seeing him as a kid still

@@bryanperez4061 that makes since because in Young Sheldon we learn that George and Mary only got married because Mary got pregnant with Georgie (Sheldon's older brother). While I do believe they loved each other I think the only reason they stayed together in the end was for their kids and how divorce was perceived back then (especially in Mary's church).

In a short biopic about the disparities of what we know from TBBT and Young Sheldon they mentioned that George is described as a really hard and harsh character in TBBT. However, they chose not to have him be abusive and argumentative in Young Sheldon as those producing the show didn’t feel that it would be received well by audiences (new and old). It makes it a more kid friendly show.

I was SO very pleased with how the writers of "Young Sheldon" handled this on their show, with it being Mary doing "cosplay sex" with husband George, and NOT George cheating on her. Just sad that Mary never realized Sheldon saw them, and thusly couldn't correct his mistaken memory.

It just occurred to me that out of every member of the show every single one of them was a genius on some form or another. Everybody thinks that penny is a dumb one but it just occurs to me that she is a social genius. She is the only one of the group who actually legitimate social skills and the ability to adapt to new environments. She used that skill to become a sales genius make a ton of money. You don't need a doctorate degree or even a masters wink-wink Howard to the a genius and successful. It comes to mind as I see her giving intelligent advice on relationships to Sheldon
Penny is the one that can Sheldon to open up on stuff he never tells anybody. Even Amy. Which is a reason I feel that she has some jealously on their close bond.

@@Unversed333Guys, i don’t remember what episode of tbbt it was but even if it was in the last season, Young Sheldon was only at his second season at the time. They didn’t even knew if there where gonna be 7 season of Young Sheldon. So yes, at the time George was cheating, but they changed the plot when writing the last season of Young Sheldon because we like George that’s it.
In the latest episode of Young Sheldon, this came to fruition... Sheldon and Mary arrives back to home from Germany and Sheldon's dedicated apartment in the university has a roommate. Sheldon Plays the roomate's videogame throughout the night and conquers it without cheating so he arrives home in the late morning/afternoon. Mary is with George is in their bedroom sexually cosplaying as "Helga" in a German dirndl (interesting as that Heidelberg is not in Bavaria but not far off in Baden-Württemberg ergo the dirndls would not be there being traditionally Bavarian) and Mary cosplaying speaks to George seductively in a German Accent. Sheldon knocks and seen George with "the other woman"
Case Closed with a sigh of relief.

Penny and Sheldon seem like such unlikely friends, but their friendship on this show was a beautiful thing. The fact Sheldon could open up to Penny more than anyone else (including Amy, at times) shows that he trusted her. And she repaid that trust by being a real friend to him
For the better part of three seasons you can tell Sheldon and Penny only tolerated one another because of Leonard, and you can tell it shocked Penny when Sheldon admitted he was glad they were still friends after her and Leonard broke up. I think that’s where their bond really took off, when they both realized they still wanted to be friends despite the fact technically at that point in time they didn’t have to tolerate each other anymore.

From what I able to understand, makers did wanted to show George having affair with Brenda.
However the character of George turned out to be quite wholesome and larger than life with fans.
That made the infidelity angle bothersome to them.
To mitigate this, they relied on Sheldon’a ability to be unrelated narrator and give it a hilarious twist.
PS- I am personally happy that George and Mary didn’t cheat on each other at this stage of the show.
Though I am not sure if they did in any of previous seasons.

After today's Young Sheldon episode (7x04), this story lost a lot of it's emotional weight.
Yes, it was probably Sheldon biggest sad moment and they just ruined it because they didn’t have the balls to follow BBT and making Sheldon childhood tough and sad, instead they just make an other family sitcom where everyone is likeable while Sheldon is just a jerk.
My main reason why I prefer BBT
My one problem with the retcon is that it happened after TBBT ended, so we never a scene where Sheldon comes clean to his mother about what he saw and she clears up the misunderstanding
I was actually relieved with the retcon, they portrayed George as a loving father and family man, and they were portraying Mary as kinda selfish, so I a thought they were trying to JUSTIFY the infidelity, glad they didn’t
