- This weeks Cache Walk is about a visit to the Buried Village in Rotorua, New Zealand. Come for a walk around the Buried Village and see the geocaches related to the Tarawera eruption of 1886.

This reminds me of when our Mt.
St. Helens erupted in 1980.
Being close to St. Helens must have been frightening as it moved so fast.
I remember that! I was camping in the middle of Idaho when that thing went off. Covered in ash, we managed to get our way back home.
That must have been a bit of a worry.

As a child the 1886 Eruption scared me as a child watching that video in the Museum I believe. If possible, do you have that video? Thanks! :)
No sorry I don't know that video. There was a children's serives on TV called, 'Children of Fire Mountain.' You can see it on TH-cam. Hope that helps and thanks for commenting.

It's a very interesting place. If you make it set aside around an hour and a half for a good look around.
Really interesting and poignant history! Love the artifacts especially. I would be buying one of those wooden pens at reception (can' resist a souvenir pen) as for the terrain, the more challenging it is, the more resilient I become! Not much fun running in the dark with the noise of the eruption in your ears and a chair over your head for protection.
