In 1878, it was the violation of human rights of the people of Donegal by a tyrant, Lord Leitrim, that was the cause of misery and strife. The result was that my great-grandfather, Neil Shiels, along with Michael McElwee and Michael Heraghty - three ordinary men who responded with the communities ascent - committed a most extraordinary act. Today, in Donegal, it is the multinational oil and gas industry that want to subjugate the people of the land to a new form of tyranny and impose their greed upon its peaceful people. Douglas (Darby, Darby, Neil) Shiels (nee Shields) Sa bhliain 1878, bhí sé ar an sárú ar chearta daonna mhuintir Dhún na nGall ag anfhlaith, Tiarna Liatroma, go raibh an chúis misery agus achrann. An toradh a bhí go raibh mo shin-seanathair, Neil Shiels, chomh maith le Michael McElwee agus Michael Heraghty - triúr gnáth fir a d'fhreagair leis an ascent pobail - tar éis gníomh an chuid is mó neamhghnách. Sa lá atá inniu, i nDún na nGall, tá sé an ola agus tionscal an gháis ilnáisiúnta atá ag iarraidh subjugate na daoine ar an talamh go dtí foirm nua de tyranny agus a fhorchur a n-saint ar a muintir síochánta. Douglas Shields Hi Douglas, I am also a descendent of Neil Sheils... My grandmother was born into the Meenan family, also descendants of an Owen Doherty. I only found out today about the Fanad Patriots, hence the reason I have found this video. Unfortunately, I don't speak Gaelic because I have grown up in Scotland. But I would like to say hello as we share this historical event. Please do not hesitate to contact me, my aunties are tracing our family tree. My mothers maiden name is Howard, that name may not mean anything to you though I mention it in case it does. Thanks, Andy.
