Great length retention! Very informative video on moisture & protein balance. This video can really help me now since I'm still trying to figure out how to keep my normal to low porosity hair balanced.
I really appreciate all your videos. I've been natural for four years, and I'm finally getting the hang of it all thanks to you (the porosity video literally saved my life). Thank you thank you!!
So glad you mentioned that the design essentials lines as a good store bought brand to choose. I just got into it( found it at my local Sally beauty supply) and my hair loved it the moment I slathered it in! It's affordable, all natural and a perfect balance of ingredients that my hair needs.
Thank you so much for this breakdown of the difference between protein and moisture... As a protein sensitive girl I love this video... And just made my tea...So I am so excited to see what it may do for my hair...
I abandoned hair products, all my woes comes from using hair products, I now use whats in my kitchen. When i was relaxed or colored it was ok to use a little protein. Now that I'm all natural, protein is my foe. It just registered to me from what you said that processing stripes hair of protein.
Your hair is very beautiful. And you maintain it where it has volume, its shiny, and moisturized alot. That's why you should do alot more videos about beauty & hair.
I really miss you doing your all natural recipes for hair. I guess it takes too much time. But I just feel like there are a lot of products to try/purchase in your vids lately. still love you girl and your channel. always great info. but I just don't want to keep buying different products. I'm a self recovering product junkie and don't want to go back lol. luv u
TheJanicetunes there have been some consistent products such as the DE Creme gel and Kera Care Creme cleanser. As a hair blogger I try a lot of products and like to refer those that I enjoy, but I hear you ....I have was thinking just today that I need to do more recipes .... Thanks for the suggestion. Xox
Thanks Curly P for your response and you're very welcome. We (you tubers) appreciate you so much and I'm so grateful for you and others who share their tips. Keeping going girl. I'm just trying to get my hair as long and thick as yours:)
Loved this video this has always been my issue. Thank you so much for all your informative videos! I have been following you since you came out with your shea butter mix! So happy and proud of all your accomplishments! Way to go love!
Hey Curly Proverbz~ I've been a long term viewer and have greatly benefited from your insights THANK U! I wanted to know if you could do a video on AG hair care products and the specifics of their moisture line?
I did an avocado protein mask one time and it turned out straw like. I had to put a bunch of leave in conditioner in it for a few days, and work with it to get it normal. 😊
So is hot oil treatment protein or mousturizing? I use a mixture of avocado oil, mustard seed oil, and pure vitamin E oil infused with vitamin C (my hair loves it. feels super thick, elastic, soft, shiny).
A. J. It depends on the definition of moisture you use... many dictionaries say water 💦 or liquid most say moisture is water based. It keeps moisture in provides lubrication and elasticity and in that way I would say it's very similar to moisture....
If you use fully or partially penetrative oils like coconut or olive oil (I can't remember the other one(s)) for your treatment they can enter the hair shaft and nourish the hair from the inside out similar to a moisturizing conditioner. But they won't give moisture to your hair (no water), so if you're in need of moisture after a protein treatment, opt for a moisturizing deep conditioner and do hot oil either afterwards or on another day altogether.
That is a great tip thanks for sharing - never thought about doing my hot oil treatment after instead of before the deep conditioner to seal in the moisture - but then you still need to rinse it I guess (and therefore loose some oil and moisture altogether) (?) - I am actually more confused lol
Didi rci Well some people like to do it after conditioning to seal. And yeah it'll be rinsed out, but unless you shampoo it out there will still be oil enough on your hair to seal. Alternatively you could do it on another day (when you need a conditioning effect on your hair but not necessarily as much extra moisture). Also you could do a hot oil treatment and treat it as a pre-poo. Most of it would get shampooed out but the oils (esp. penetrative oils) will still benefit your hair this way too. Also just to make you less confused. Oils, even when they coat the hair will never completely block out water. So when you rinse the oils out of your hair, water is going to enter your hair and the oil that's left over is going to seal some of that water in and increase the moisture levels of your hair indirectly. So even though there's no water in oil, hot oil treatments can generally be thought of as moisturizing as they can help to retain moisture in the hair shaft. Penetrative oils are better though if you want your hair and scalp to benefit from their nourishment. Coconut oil actually acts similar to protein with continued use so be mindful. But heavier oils like castor or shea oil will sit outside the hair and help it retain moisture better like I mentioned.
Love your analytical approach to products and hair growth. I'm still recovering from heat damage and suffering from trying to manage several textures of hair. And your lashes are amazing! Any secrets there? :-)
How often do you flat iron your hair? I did the technique you use to revert straight hair back to curly minus the henna. It worked really well. Thanks for all your tips.
Are yu saying that it's ok to use products that contain those proteins but not to use hard core treatments like apoghee when using ayurevedics? For some reason, I'm thinking of henna as an equivalent to protein so one has to choose between henna or hard-core protein treatments to avoid damaging the hair. Can you please clarify? Tia
Hi, how do you detangle your long beautiful hair? My hair is growing and I want it grow it as long as yours. Do you flat iron your hair? If so how often? Do you have a video of you washing and detangling your hair? How do you keep your hair when going to bed? How long did it take you to grow your hair so long?
Hi honey looking gorgeous ❤ I wanted to know if you have used the Philip Kingsley elasticizer and the Cantu hair products? If so what do u think? Also pls do vids incorporating fresh avocados, I would love to try your trusted recipes x
Hi curly, I have very fine hair which do not hold curls very well. Please do you recommend me doing a protein treatment as well as a moisturizing treatment every week to gain strength in my hair? Thank you.
hi curly proverbs just to ask do you still use these design essential products though they have mineral oil in. love your channel I've just started using your henna tea and hair gloss recipe. thanks
Hey Curly Proverbz i have a Question.i did my priosity test. My hair stayed on top and when I push it down it stays at the bottom lol and when I balance it in the middle it stays their😲 I'm confused what type of hair do i have?
hello I love your videos very informative. I have a question. let's say your having a problem with breakage how often would you suggest doing a protein treatment once a week once a month? what are your thoughts? also what if you are just maintaining how often would you suggest at that point 1x a month? your input is appreciated
Curly Proverbz well I had noticed alot of shedding and it was broken hairs so I got scared so I started doing weekly protein treatments every Sun and then cowashing every Wednesday with a moisture conditioner as well as using it as a leave in. I'm trying to retain length but I have had a few setbacks so I was waist length and now I'm bra strap length. I started cowashing and detangling midweek because I was finding that although I'm protective styling the detangling at the end of the week was doing more harm then good. I don't use any heat and my hair I would say is your texture low porosity but not as thick so I'm trying to work on that too. any suggestions will be well appreciated I'm so frustrated and tired of having set backs.
Do you have any recommendations for a dry and ichy scalp. I want to try your oil treatment in one of your other videos but was wondering if you have anything for this? Thanks.
Nice video must say, but where can one get hydrolyzed wheat protein, collagen, silk protein as you mention cause my hair is low porosity. How often can one do protein treatment. Will hot oil treatment help with elasticity of the hair? If yes what's the best combination?
please curly,i have a 4c hair and is so dry n frizzy.my scalp itches me alot.please what deep condition or routine should i follow?waiting for your reply please
I believe this is what's happening to my daughter's hair. it keeps breaking and coming out when I'm combing it. I wet her hair hair everytime I comb it and its muchy .
@curlyproverbs so with the moisture and balance step by step if doing this which step is the henna mask/gloss or do I just make make it with the deep conditioner
Hey love you can either use them in combination or one after the other. If I do a protein treatment I rinse and apply a moisturising conditioner... That works for me but you have to listen to your hair x
please help.I always thought that my hair was low porosity but right now I am lost. I have noticed that my hair get dry super fast when i leave the shower to put the deep conditioner on my hair, like really fast. I have also noticed the same thing when I wash my hair after I put the deep conditionner. It dry so fast that i have to put water again in some part of my hair before I put the leave in. I have read that when the hair dry that fast, it a sign that your hair is high porosity. But I the same time after I have deep conditionner and put the leave in and sealed the moisture with an oil (generally coconut) my hair get time to dry. Everytime I did the glass water test, My hair stayed at the top of the glass. I haven't relaxed my hair since 2012, and the last time I did a brazilian blowout was in 2014. So my hair can be damaged because of chemical process since I have been natural since 2014 after cutting every relaxed and chemically treated hair and my hair is very curly. I am so lost and depressed right now. I have done literally everything and spend so much money on my hair and it still not growing. I have been thinking maybe I was doing the wrong things since the beginning I don't know. Maybe it's the clarifiying shampoo that I am using that is drying my hair I don't know. Please help ! (sorry for the mistakes I am french !)
capricorn girl I have high porosity hair. I would clarify shampoo once every 2 weeks only. use bentonite clay to wash ACV to rinse every couple days and then put an aloe vera based leave in. next use an oil not coconut than seal with a heavy cream like shea moisture deep treatment masque or any of your DCs. try it out let me know.
How does Henna fit into this balance? I heard that henna is similar to protein and that you shouldn't use both. I henna and I avoid protein treatments. Should I alternate between the two?
I think this is the most defined I've seen your curls. It looks great.
Thank you boo a new conditioner formula that I have been working on xox I got you....Vid coming soon

So is hot oil treatment protein or mousturizing? I use a mixture of avocado oil, mustard seed oil, and pure vitamin E oil infused with vitamin C (my hair loves it. feels super thick, elastic, soft, shiny).
A. J. A Oils help to maintain protein :) But they don't contain protein. I would not say they are moisturizing

Can I add glycerin to my conditioner?
Great information, tfs
Doing the henna mask doesn't replace a protein treatment, does it?
Leisurely Natural it fills in gaps in the hair shaft almost like cement and keeps the integrity of the hair's protein.
Curly Proverbz Thank you for that clarification.

Is this a Design Essential commercial?
Mmmmm ok.
How does Henna fit into this balance? I heard that henna is similar to protein and that you shouldn't use both. I henna and I avoid protein treatments. Should I alternate between the two?
Hey love I would alternate between the two or find the one that works best for you xox
