    So glad you mentioned that the design essentials lines as a good store bought brand to choose. I just got into it( found it at my local Sally beauty supply) and my hair loved it the moment I slathered it in! It's affordable, all natural and a perfect balance of ingredients that my hair needs.

    I abandoned hair products, all my woes comes from using hair products, I now use whats in my kitchen. When i was relaxed or colored it was ok to use a little protein. Now that I'm all natural, protein is my foe. It just registered to me from what you said that processing stripes hair of protein.

  • @a.j.3088
    @a.j.3088 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    So is hot oil treatment protein or mousturizing? I use a mixture of avocado oil, mustard seed oil, and pure vitamin E oil infused with vitamin C (my hair loves it. feels super thick, elastic, soft, shiny).

    • @NM-od3cr
      @NM-od3cr 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A. J. A Oils help to maintain protein :) But they don't contain protein. I would not say they are moisturizing

    • @CurlyProverbz
      @CurlyProverbz  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A. J. It depends on the definition of moisture you use... many dictionaries say water 💦 or liquid most say moisture is water based. It keeps moisture in provides lubrication and elasticity and in that way I would say it's very similar to moisture....

    • @danicakelly2242
      @danicakelly2242 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you use fully or partially penetrative oils like coconut or olive oil (I can't remember the other one(s)) for your treatment they can enter the hair shaft and nourish the hair from the inside out similar to a moisturizing conditioner. But they won't give moisture to your hair (no water), so if you're in need of moisture after a protein treatment, opt for a moisturizing deep conditioner and do hot oil either afterwards or on another day altogether.

    • @kadycrea
      @kadycrea 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great tip thanks for sharing - never thought about doing my hot oil treatment after instead of before the deep conditioner to seal in the moisture - but then you still need to rinse it I guess (and therefore loose some oil and moisture altogether) (?) - I am actually more confused lol

    • @danicakelly2242
      @danicakelly2242 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Didi rci Well some people like to do it after conditioning to seal. And yeah it'll be rinsed out, but unless you shampoo it out there will still be oil enough on your hair to seal. Alternatively you could do it on another day (when you need a conditioning effect on your hair but not necessarily as much extra moisture). Also you could do a hot oil treatment and treat it as a pre-poo. Most of it would get shampooed out but the oils (esp. penetrative oils) will still benefit your hair this way too.
      Also just to make you less confused. Oils, even when they coat the hair will never completely block out water. So when you rinse the oils out of your hair, water is going to enter your hair and the oil that's left over is going to seal some of that water in and increase the moisture levels of your hair indirectly. So even though there's no water in oil, hot oil treatments can generally be thought of as moisturizing as they can help to retain moisture in the hair shaft. Penetrative oils are better though if you want your hair and scalp to benefit from their nourishment. Coconut oil actually acts similar to protein with continued use so be mindful. But heavier oils like castor or shea oil will sit outside the hair and help it retain moisture better like I mentioned.

    Are yu saying that it's ok to use products that contain those proteins but not to use hard core treatments like apoghee when using ayurevedics? For some reason, I'm thinking of henna as an equivalent to protein so one has to choose between henna or hard-core protein treatments to avoid damaging the hair. Can you please clarify? Tia

    hello I love your videos very informative. I have a question. let's say your having a problem with breakage how often would you suggest doing a protein treatment once a week once a month? what are your thoughts? also what if you are just maintaining how often would you suggest at that point 1x a month? your input is appreciated

    • @CurlyProverbz

    • @user-nq8nl4wh9w
      @user-nq8nl4wh9w 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Curly Proverbz well I had noticed alot of shedding and it was broken hairs so I got scared so I started doing weekly protein treatments every Sun and then cowashing every Wednesday with a moisture conditioner as well as using it as a leave in. I'm trying to retain length but I have had a few setbacks so I was waist length and now I'm bra strap length. I started cowashing and detangling midweek because I was finding that although I'm protective styling the detangling at the end of the week was doing more harm then good. I don't use any heat and my hair I would say is your texture low porosity but not as thick so I'm trying to work on that too. any suggestions will be well appreciated I'm so frustrated and tired of having set backs.

      Donnie Love you could add it to water in a spritz bottle with some essential oils or add to your deep conditioner

    please help.I always thought that my hair was low porosity but right now I am lost. I have noticed that my hair get dry super fast when i leave the shower to put the deep conditioner on my hair, like really fast. I have also noticed the same thing when I wash my hair after I put the deep conditionner. It dry so fast that i have to put water again in some part of my hair before I put the leave in. I have read that when the hair dry that fast, it a sign that your hair is high porosity.But I the same time after I have deep conditionner and put the leave in and sealed the moisture with an oil (generally coconut) my hair get time to dry. Everytime I did the glass water test, My hair stayed at the top of the glass. I haven't relaxed my hair since 2012, and the last time I did a brazilian blowout was in 2014. So my hair can be damaged because of chemical process since I have been natural since 2014 after cutting every relaxed and chemically treated hair and my hair is very curly. I am so lost and depressed right now. I have done literally everything and spend so much money on my hair and it still not growing. I have been thinking maybe I was doing the wrong things since the beginning I don't know. Maybe it's the clarifiying shampoo that I am using that is drying my hair I don't know. Please help ! (sorry for the mistakes I am french !)

      capricorn girl I have high porosity hair. I would clarify shampoo once every 2 weeks only. use bentonite clay to wash ACV to rinse every couple days and then put an aloe vera based leave in. next use an oil not coconut than seal with a heavy cream like shea moisture deep treatment masque or any of your DCs. try it out let me know.
