The SX is a great bike, good choice. If you watch Commencals website, historically in the component section, they in the past would fire sale the left over production inventory after models discontinue. The SX uses the 62.5 shock while the newer bikes from other mfgs seem to use the 65 shock, so likely Commencal will go to 65 on the next design (I'm speculating). New design is out in 2023 according to rumor. Thats a place to watch / track to save money, but honestly with your channel viewership you could probably get a free shock from somewhere. This is all assuming you actually want a shock upgrade, what you have will be fine in Bentonville but once you start putting in 8-10 hour days with 30-40 miles of actual descending (no including the lifts) at the bike parks, that shock is not going to live long. My only real advice here is, Double Down rear tire, or equivalent from other mfg. The cushcore won't save the Exo tread or sidewalls once you start to carry speed through the rocks in DH parks.
Thanks for the comment man! I have a shuttle trail system real close by and I want to try out the long days you mention. Would help a ton on skills, comfortability with chunk/steep. Plus Nick one of the shuttle owners is so rad. LOL, never mind, looks like you hit Leatherwood with that shot I saw of the trailer! How'd you dig those trails?
I got about a year out of the standard inline shock on my meta before I hit a 4' drop and exploded the internals. Plus it used to get so hot on the 5+ minute downhills. By the time you got to the bottom it would be so soft from the heat that the smallest bumps bottomed it out
I've owned an enduro bike, a 2017 trek slash 9.8 (150/160) I brought it because a local lift access bike park opened up and I thought I needed it, but now I own a 2019 norco fluid (120/130) personally I have much more fun on the short travel norco, its fun, agile, and poppy, where the enduro bike just steam rolled over all the small trail features making many tracks a bit boring, but the norco makes those small trail features actual features again, plus it can still handle everything the slash did.
That shock is perfectly fine. In Bentonville you certainly don’t need a piggyback since the descents aren’t too long. Rockshox even says on their website that the Deluxe is no different than the enduro-rated Superdeluxe in terms of performance
Agreed. If an upgrade is absolutely needed for Bentonville trails, Evan will see more improvement with a MegNeg added to his existing shock vs a remote reservoir style unit.
Increasing negative air volume on a frame with geometry designed around a progressive shock will NOT make it worse. Adding a MegNeg allows more tunability, increasing small bump sensitivity and resistance to bottoming out. If Evan decides to upgrade to the piggyback reservoir Super Deluxe Ultimate he can also use the MegNeg with that shock as well.
Yep, I've ridden much worse on my 120mm norco fluid fs1, its actually surprised me a lot, I used to think more travel equals better, but now I realize its quality of travel that matters more, not quantity, I have a revelation fork with the motion control damper (which isn't supposed to be very good) yet I've changed to 2.5w damper oil and now its great, its at least as good and even slightly more plush than the lyrik with the charger damper that was on my old 2017 trek slash 9.8
@@EvansMTBSaga For sure! I really do want to invest in a higher travel bike someday, but it's hard to justify when moat of my local trails in KY are XC oriented.
@@CinimodMG My personal experience owning a 150/160 trek slash, the long travel soaks up all the small trail features making tracks that aren't super steep and rough a bit boring, its just like a monster truck steam rolling over everything, so I sold the slash and brought the norco fluid, and it was so much more fun, its super easy to get a rebound pop just by compressing the suspension a bit, it made all the more xc/trail tracks fun again, plus it still handles the steep double blacks just fine too.
Don´t let people talk to much. These Deluxe Shocks are absolutely fine. Have ridden mine hard day in day out. Never any problems. Piggy backs are a lot of marketing, and maybe good for racers. But for normal hobby usage these Deluxe´s are plenty good.
It has no piggy back thats why whats rear travel and once u ride the newest enduro bikes u won't go back if u upgrade too a better shock you'll feel difference I still haven't bottom out my shock and I ride big park is it sx or tr
Wow, great riding! So glad you like the SX I love my Tr, plushest rear ever (DVO Topaz) and the staff at Commencal is outstanding, at least speaking of Europe and their hq Andorra.
you should put a more enduro or DH oriented shock on as even though that shock came off a meta sx it was likely the lowest model, I would recommend something like fox float X2 or a rockshox super deluxe.
Always loved the lines on the Commencal bikes and they generally have solid build kit for the $$. Have been tempted to try one out a few times, but always end up going a different route.
Try this enduro trick from motorcycles. Instead of hanging your goggles on the bar. Spin them around backwards. The strap right under the visor and the lenses on the back. Way less chance of scratching or finding crap inside.👍
As far as the (non-piggyback) shock, I think it's just different from what we're used to seeing, especially in combination with a super burly fork like the Zeb. I think most riders don't need a piggyback shock, unless they're descending thousands of feet on the regular, or racing Enduro at a high level. But we're all at least a little susceptible to marketing...
I have also commencal meta (tr), one of the first things i had to change is the shock (fox dps). Just not as capable as the front fork. Typical Commencal. greetings from Belgium.
I think it corners just fine. I actually have to adjust my riding on it because I'll turn too much and turn down early in the turn instead of having a proper apex. I would like to try it with some double down tires so I can really push it in the turns and not worry about tire roll. It can run a coil but has to be a solid shaft. So EXT, Push, Ohlins. Can't run Rockshox or Fox coils
3:00 you really just said sections on that trail would overwhelm any bike you've ridden but then procede to show a guy riding a "super chunky rock garden" at trail speed on an xc bike
Its not because its a cross-country shock its because its a bit crap, with only rebound and pressure adjustment. since you're a certified baller get your hands on a cane creek coil - and if you can afford it a manitou mezzer or intend edge for some quality suspension.
At 50 mumble I got into DH and got an ol Giant Faith 0 2010 26" x 7"er. Me and my videos may be a little Mediocre, but I know it will never be the bike that let me down. in a word... Bulletproof
I was going for a little mix up on color, but I think they are too blue. Plus they're the cheaper version of Ergon factory grips and don't have the nice tear drop shape. But after riding these blue ones, the grips are really dang good 😬 so idk I might keep them lol
That shock might be okay for some short jump trails, but on a longer tech or jump trails you are going to feel a bunch of shock faid. This is because it doesn't have a piggy back.
230 eye to eye isn't that uncommon on Enduro bikes I've found. Typically you can destroke in 2.5mm increments from 65 down to 57.5. Standard mount I also find easier to get then trunnion mount.
@@EvansMTBSaga yes. Lots of pedaling for an enduro bike. A solid trail bike is plenty for everything there. Of course it comes in handy here and there though…
I feel like its a USA thing to say a bike is too much for a trail. All the people I know in europe I know have an enduro bike or a solid trail bike just because it so versatile. U could ride park, trail, flow or tech on it. Doesn't matter if u could do it on an xc bike or dh bike. Enduro goes for everything here.

@@benjy288 There's definitely some truth to that! I have SID Select+ suspension and it does pretty well considering the low travel.
Come ride the bike park(s) with us in Minnesota this Summer, it’s a day’s drive…I’m reasonably certain we have the closest lift operated parks to you!
Id love to come visit!
It has no piggy back thats why whats rear travel and once u ride the newest enduro bikes u won't go back if u upgrade too a better shock you'll feel difference I still haven't bottom out my shock and I ride big park is it sx or tr
Cool, you should test out trek slash
I’ve got the second top model and that thing is a tank
the 2023 ones are considerably better with the new suspension and they finnnaaaallly got rid of the trouble double trunnion shock
I run a 28T on all my bikes. I'm 200 lbs and the 28 gives me the ability to turn over the cranks nicely on nasty climbs.
That's cool! And no issues with clearance of the chainring and chain stay. I might have to get a few more
@@EvansMTBSaga my Stumpjumper EVO chain is close to the stay but the Shimano clutch keeps it pretty tight. No noise.
@@EvansMTBSaga not on my bikes. I have a 21 Stumpjumper and a 22 Stumpjumper EVO
Yes, I knew you will eventually buy an Enduro bike. It is climbable DH bike....That is all I need from MTB. Love your channel from Thailand
Wow, great riding! So glad you like the SX I love my Tr, plushest rear ever (DVO Topaz) and the staff at Commencal is outstanding, at least speaking of Europe and their hq Andorra.
I need to try DVO. The rear shock I have may not match the plushness of the Zeb Ultimate, so I will check into DVO for the future
I recently got my first enduro bike and I love it! so happy for you. keep tearing it up!
I came for the enduro bike but honestly the picture frame intrigued me more it's pretty damn cool 😆
It's def a good gift for the holidays!
Congratulations on the new bike it’s a dream bike for sure. It would be a blast at SOMO.
Oh I know right. Maybe for shuttle runs, that climb up national & Mormon would be no fun!
I’m looking at getting one of these so this is some good content as a review
you should put a more enduro or DH oriented shock on as even though that shock came off a meta sx it was likely the lowest model, I would recommend something like fox float X2 or a rockshox super deluxe.
Always loved the lines on the Commencal bikes and they generally have solid build kit for the $$. Have been tempted to try one out a few times, but always end up going a different route.
Highly recommend them just ordered a meta tr on sale. If you’re looking to buy one get it now cus they are amazing bikes and on sale for a great price
@@aussiesends I actually just recently picked up a new Propain Tyee for 20% off and have been blown away how good it is.
@@superawesomefuntimego looks like a great bike
Dude, you have both the bikes that I would like to have. Meta SX or the Spectral. Can not decide. Guess both would be amazing
Glad to see you stoked on the new enduro!
Try this enduro trick from motorcycles. Instead of hanging your goggles on the bar. Spin them around backwards. The strap right under the visor and the lenses on the back. Way less chance of scratching or finding crap inside.👍
Love my long travel specialized enduro 180/180mm travel full send on everything.
Haha we've all had those marketing deception moments
The video editing on this was seriously awesome
Hot bike
Thanks Tim!
You absolutely smashed that rock garden on schroen train.
That shock is perfect for Bentonville. It's not like it's gonna handle any Enduro trails there anyway
Let’s get this man to 100k before summer 2023!!
Would you buy the meta ht tho?
I heard a rumor about some Commencal frames. They broke rear shocks due some kind of frame linkage failure.
subbed when he had 20k subs now hes almost at 100k keep up the good work hopefully in like a year you will have 1mill subs.
I have also commencal meta (tr), one of the first things i had to change is the shock (fox dps). Just not as capable as the front fork. Typical Commencal. greetings from Belgium.
I always here people say it's a really long bike/rear triangle so it doesn't corner well what's your opinion... Also are they coil ready?
I think it corners just fine. I actually have to adjust my riding on it because I'll turn too much and turn down early in the turn instead of having a proper apex. I would like to try it with some double down tires so I can really push it in the turns and not worry about tire roll. It can run a coil but has to be a solid shaft. So EXT, Push, Ohlins. Can't run Rockshox or Fox coils
love the page Evan, cant wait to watch the LIVE tonight,Mike and I are gonna talk about you on the show tonight.Keep it up homie
I have been loving your videos lately they are so inspiaring
5:46 Evan finally took off his hat!
Hey Evan, whats was your rear travel?
3:00 you really just said sections on that trail would overwhelm any bike you've ridden but then procede to show a guy riding a "super chunky rock garden" at trail speed on an xc bike
Ahh that particular section was just filled in, but there were two more after that. The clip you've mentioned is just shown as an example.
Its not because its a cross-country shock its because its a bit crap, with only rebound and pressure adjustment. since you're a certified baller get your hands on a cane creek coil - and if you can afford it a manitou mezzer or intend edge for some quality suspension.
Oh man I've been drooling over the Intend shocks for quite some time 😍
Just bought the same wheels and taking them for their first spin today I cant wait
Solid wheelset!
At 50 mumble I got into DH and got an ol Giant Faith 0 2010 26" x 7"er. Me and my videos may be a little Mediocre, but I know it will never be the bike that let me down. in a word... Bulletproof
When ext stories rebuild? It may be good shock for your meta
first look: very nice
second: i would change the blue grips to grey.
I didn't feel any fade on the shuttle park the following day. I'll let everyone know if I have any issues though
230 eye to eye isn't that uncommon on Enduro bikes I've found. Typically you can destroke in 2.5mm increments from 65 down to 57.5. Standard mount I also find easier to get then trunnion mount.
This enduro bike build was definitely worth the wait after all, but I am sticking to Trail bike build.
I have another trail bike coming to the channel soon!
You really should try a coil on this bike though! unlock its full enduro potential!
Silly to have that bike in Bentonville so hopefully you travel with it
Have you been to Bentonville?
@@EvansMTBSaga yes. Lots of pedaling for an enduro bike. A solid trail bike is plenty for everything there. Of course it comes in handy here and there though…
Awesome man, ok so now whats the final geo on that sweet build ?!!!
Id love to see you shred some dh trails! I hope you will visit bike parks next year id love to see your vids on them!
Just got my meta sx 2 weeks ago, such a good bike!
i really love long travel bikes, especially my DH rig cz it gives more fun and forgives more mistakes (and looks soo siiiick)
@evan, where did you get your GoPro chest mount?
It's a modification of my Uswe bag. Way better than the standard GoPro mount
Looks like you’re having some good fun on the bruiser 🤙🏻
My beater bike is an early 2000s downhill bike
Good stuff man! those are two of my favorite trails to ride when I visit Bentonville. The First time I rode that one was during the enduro race. I was not in the race but they still let me go down it, I didn't know about those rocks at the bottom and sent it way to fast. I made it with out crashing but I now go through them vs over them.🤣🤣
Haha the end of Schroen looks like nothing in videos. I remember my first time down it I fully expected to be able to go no brakes. I'm still timid on that section 😬😂
@@EvansMTBSaga Next time I'm in Bentonville I will hit you up, last year I visited around 6 times, I have been building connections there. I am looking at adding a location for our business and Buying a house to use as rental when I'm at my home base.
Love the rig!
The mullet life is the dream, you need to make a trip to windrock!!!!!!!!!
I'm definitely going to! My friend is moving that way soon
Wonder when you'll get an ebike as well
The music is a little bit overpowering but overall great content.
What shock is that?
that frame is too sick!! definitely going to be my next one
That’s a sweet bike, should def be your main ride now. You should try going coil on the rear, and really get rowdy with the chunky terrain
Oh man I almost pulled the trigger on EXT coils front and rear. They were like 20-30% off! But I have a new bike not yet on the channel that has me super excited
I haven’t even watched the video, but I can categorically say YES.
That bike looks great. Enduro is my fav. Luv me sum long travel.I have the same dropper lever and grips, only mine are both red. I also have a USWE backpack…Nice.
Twinning! Haha
