It is also worth noting that as a genuinely English company from the North East and still under original ownership, they give a huge amount of money to feeding children within the North East, which is one of the most deprived regions in the UK.
The English company / charity stuff is nice but worth us bearing in mind it’s ultimately unhealthy UPF contributing to the obesity crisis so have to be wary of green-washing
Grace Dent did a really interesting doc about Greggs and they really seemed to be genuinely caring of those on or under the poverty line. Very socially responsible company which is quite rare for big businesses these days, and they’re okay to actually put money into it rather than meaningless lip service. Really admirable. And their sausage rolls are bloody delicious!
I love how Jamie wasn't mad that Baz ate the sausage roll, but rather that he ate the ENTIRE roll without sharing. Jamie for sure had dibs on a snacking roll.
And that is the perfect illustration of why this episode was doomed from the start: Would he have been as annoyed by the taco or Big Mac? Of course not! There isn't any possible way to make a Greggs any better than it already is!
Look, I an old man living freezing Canada so I am not anyone’s demographic, but for me the appeal of this channel has been the interaction and banter between the mates along with the cooking. In my opinion, the live audience has changed that dynamic…the interactions do not seem the same as when it’s just them. I prefer the old but I understand others might like it. Success in TH-cam is most certainly about the connection and interaction with your video audience since that’s the medium you are using. I’ve never paid for the live shows because that dynamic does not interest me…we are all different. I do know I would be very careful about screwing with a formula that makes you almost 3 million subscribers though…that would scare the hell out of me! Regardless, best of luck boys…you’ve given an old man many hours of laughs…thank you for that.
Another Canadian here - agree totally. Different dynamic with the camera, with each other; I miss the OG. What about a compromise? One live audience a month?
A Malaysian here, agreed. Banter with friends, having an audience like this however somehow might restrict those synergy but I do understand its everyone's other opinion
UK Lad here ! I also kinda agree ! I still love the vids of course but I preferred them when it was more close knit. I think a comment on a previous video summed it up for me. Before the inhouse audience, I felt like it was the lads and me, whereas now often it feels like the lads playing for an audience that isn't me.
Froggie here... Yep, same. I don't feel/sense/hear/see any added value from the live audience. It seems the guys are trying to please the live audience more than us, the other audience. :/
definitely! i also don’t like the audience laugh track and their being watched behaviour, but i really miss the warm lighting, brick wall and plant wall of the old studio. they made it so lovely with the additions over the last years, i find it a shame the new one looks much smaller from the camera angle with a reflecting window and stack of tupperware behind them, cold lighting and a generally less cozy aesthetic.
I am sure a great amount of effort goes into every video and I have a huge amount of respect for all of you for that. Having said that, with the studio audience, the banter / interaction doesn’t feel genuine any more. Any chance of a return to the old format?
I hate it so much that I've started skipping the ones with an audience.... and you can always tell right from the start cause of the mugging for camera
Not that this will be able to change, but I actually miss the old studio - solely for the lighting. I find the darker background was more attractive. Doesn't really detract from much, but from a lighting angle, the new studio feels like a step backwards. I'm sure it's a vastly better space for what you're doing, however.
they have years and years of building up and evolving the old studio, of course its gonna look better (albeit the old kitchen has more depth). but, this one is no different. give it time.
@@SetyaPriatnaI can see your point as someone who binged the videos because I found them 3 months ago. Though I hope they can change some of the shelf lighting to not be so distracting.
Yes!!! When I saw the first video in this studio I literally thought they were in the studio before it was finished. I was like… is that it? It feels cramped and less comforting
@@SortedFoodAre you going to respond to the criticism of these live audience episodes anytime soon or are you going to keep ignoring the comments? Genuinely curious
I recommend doing something about that back window. At best, it adds nothing, and at worst, some moving reflections are really distracting. A frosted glaze could work well and allow for something like colored backlighting
Honestly I don't even notice it on the initial watch. It can be a bit amusing to look at it later to see a "behind the scenes" of what is happening off camera. On that note I saw an Ebbers on screen just randomly digging through cabinets at one point lol
I hope the boys can learn to ignore the audience. I know it’s hard cuz I’m struggling to do so myself while watching. I think beyond the changes in dynamic, it’s that the show is now us watching a performance for other people, rather than watching a show made for us at home. Does that make sense to anyone else?
I'm not a fan of the way everyone hams it up to get a reaction from the audience, nor for the led lighting. It is supposed to be a kitchen, not every teenage TH-camr's bedroom. The old kitchen felt homey, the pink and purple lighting feels very out of place. On the plus side - yay, a Kush video!
The old place felt like it evolved as they grew. And it looked like a comfortable every person kitchen. Now it looks like it has been designed by an art student out to be a little avante garde and having no understanding of what a viewer likes to see when watching people cook. A the studio audience...it's like a bad Seinfeld episode.
The lighting is a very good comment. How many times have we been taught by the chefs that we eat first with our eyes? The unnatural and bright light just doesn't work for food, makes it all feel a bit off
I'll add my voice to the anti live audience camp. I've been subbed to sorted for years now, and I can definitely feel the difference. Everything feels more forced and played up. I wouldn't be against it if it was a rare thing and if you played to the strengths of the format, but you don't. You're just slapping a live audience on normal videos and it doesn't work.
You know you are in the north when you are never more than 10ft away from a Greggs. We build them on ancient ley lines to guide the way for travelling Geordies.
Yay, new Sorted Food video! Then I hear the audience laughing track, sees the constant playing up to the audience, unnatural shenanigans, and I realise this will be another video where I am watching Sorted Food from the outside, rather than being immersed in the video. Was a nice 1 min at least
Just want to voice the alternative to say that I like the live audience and the enthusiasm the Sorted cast have with them. If it spices up the environment for them and makes it more exciting, ignore the haters as they're not saying anything constructive - just repeating the same thing over and over, and keep going.
But you've always watched them from the outside? Remember it's a TH-cam channel, not a group of your friends. Your friends are in your real life, outside of your laptop/phone screen!
@@anyaakovalchuk The difference here (and it's similar with things like Twitch) is that without a live studio audience I, at home, in front of youtube, feel that the video is just me + the on screen boys. We're having a discussion together, they're talking to me. However, when there is a live studio audience that falls apart immediately. As mentioned, you literally get the on screen boys playing it up to the audience. The feeling of having a direct engagement between the boys and me at home is shattered. The engagement is broken. This is one of the primary reasons why I've only bought a Sorted Live ticket once and never went back again. @makri93's comment is actually a very good explanation of how this video caused me to feel and react.
@@Antioch18x And this is exactly the problem. If you being snapped out of feeling like this is just for you/a personal experience bothers you, you have formed a parasocial relationship with the guys. They aren't in your life, they're not your friends. They're just making a show for entertainment, and no live audience or other set changes do anything to take away from that, it's still the exact same show. At least for those of us who view it as what it is, a couple of episodes of an entertaining show. Remember to enjoy time with your own friend circle and reality!
Disclaimer - watched with the sound turned off and the subtitles on. It's a compromise. Again, I feel incredibly guilty that I didn't enjoy the episode as much as I'd hoped. For me - and I can't stress this enough, I'm only one person - it was a disappointing experience. I've always enjoyed this format. The Subway episode is a particularly high benchmark, with Kush's KFC a very close second. This one didn't work for me - it felt more rushed and frenetic and high-stress than the earlier ones (I think that's why the bowl got broken), and I couldn't quite follow what was going on. I don't yet have enough data to say why I felt like this - it could have been a combination of the perceived lack of space in the new kitchen set-up, the presence of the live audience adding pressure to the situation, or Jamie acting as compère. I'm not saying it was a bad episode - it had some moments, but overall I'm unlikely to rewatch it. And for a Kush episode, with Barry in the room as well, that makes me so very sad. Speaking of Jamie, why is he even there? Love you, Jamie, but this format's never needed someone standing at the side doing the nodding head bit. My theory is, it's because it makes things better for the in-studio audience, but it takes the focus away from what Kush and the sous-chef are doing. If there were questions to be asked or information to be supplied, Barry could have done that, as he (or Jamie, when he was assisting) have done in the past. As it was, Kush's attention seemed to be drawn out of the cooking area far more often than it should, as he talked to, and looked at, the off-screen presence. The sudden little squabble ("Why aren't you doing anything?") was both a highlight and a little pinprick hint of what this video could have been. I'm really struggling with this one, guys.
I don't know if these videos with audience are still from a batch that was first filmed before all the negative feedback and so you're still getting those already done videos published but I really am getting quite fed up of the audience and how that changes the interaction between the guys. It's great that the sound got fixed and of course not every change is bad and sometimes new things just take getting used to but I really think this is truly changing something about the dynamic and therefore the video output from you guys. And the annoying thing is you can't tell before clicking on it if there is an audience or not in the studio videos because I'm honestly not interested in them.
totally agree. so they get the views and even more interaction in the comments from all the people complaining. might look like an even more successful video. i couldnt keep watching. barry is really so annoying overreacting to every word someone says. i cant watch that. i suspect that all the videos for this month are prerecorded in one go.
@@robopecha This made me realise something that was effecting my love of Sorted videos for a while now - which is a seeming increase in hammy, over the top reactions from a couple of them. Have love sorted videos for years and still do but i confess, the panto looks to the camera and overreactions have spoiled some videos for me, even if ive loved the idea behind them. Its felt a bit more like the guys are playing characters of themselves - like the very forced innuendos from ben and overreactions from everyone else in so many videos, whereas before they were more occasional and funnier for it. It seemed more genuine, and now it feels more scripted? Im not sure. I still love the channel, but it seems a slight shame.
dumb comments. but comments nonthe less yea.i get its not everyoens cup of tea. but some here need to work on there parasocial relationship >.> the stuff i read is concerning regarding the audience. "its not like hanging with the mates anymore" stuff like that.
Gents... I think the constructive criticism you're looking for among these comments is that it feels like having the audience in certain episodes moves you more towards a tele format and away from what we love about watching you on TH-cam, which is the authenticity of characters, and often raw approach to production. Had there been more of an audience participation element in the concept i.e. a lucky audience member is selected to be the assistant or even the 'chef' with Barry as a muted teammate, or the audience got to taste and vote how successful Kush had been, this could have worked a little better - but the American canned laughter feel, and audience presence on this one felt like it stole the originality of the concept. For me, these comments are far too harsh, but the internet does what the internet does. I love that you're levelling up once again, don't take these comments to heart lads. We love your stuff, and you'll find the right balance with a little trial and error. And for the harsh commentators - watch yourselves or they'll set Poppy on you!!
I appreciate your measured response, but I'm genuinely confused by the suggestion that including the audience *more* is the solution. You're not the first to say it, but it always baffles me. I can just about get through a video with the audience laughing, and the boys' ott performances for them, but having a random audience member take part would be an instant turn off. It would be far too awkward to watch, especially as they will likely not be used to being on camera, and it would completely change the dynamic between the others in the video. (It would also encourage the more attention-seeking types to attend, who are more likely to act up even more just to get on camera.)
I can see what both of you are saying. If you watch any American food/cooking shows it felt like that sort of. I hate that they didn't seem like themselves with the audience. I also didn't like hearing the laughter in the background, but love that the people there watching had a great time. It just felt uncomfortable. It could be like an American food show( Guys Grocery Games, Chopped, so many others like that) where the boys bring in 3 audience members to sit there and watch and judge the dishes at the end, instead of having a group above them watching. Love though that they are trying different things, but some of those things may not work yet, but can figure out what does and what doesn't and we will be here to watch and enjoy.
I think it will be good to lose the couple hundred haters that the live audience brings - some of the most unpleasant and entitled individuals, likely from their subreddit. Your general views eclipse these people - it's fine to disregard them.
@@benjamin-106 It's to at least add a little back to somewhat offset the awkwardness. Yeah, a random person helping could be awkward. But talking at someone offscreen is more awkward. Or as judges would be nice, so at least there's some point to it and a variety in tastes (everyone one knows Barry's tastes, but you don't know THIS person's). Like if you're going to have it, at least let there be a point to it.
I don’t like the background noise it brings me back to old sitcoms with a lap track. I thought we had done away with that if it’s specifically event, then maybe but this does not sound very good.
Yep, blue and food just don't go together... It's also the least homey and comfy colour that you could pick. It reminds me of the public toilets here in the city: they have blue lights so people can't find a vein :/
I love that there was no snobbery or Greggs-bashing here. Kush saying it’s perfect as it is was nice to hear. They do a lot of good work in the communities they are based in, serve reasonably priced, well-made food and are usually pretty friendly when you go in. The sausage rolls, corned beef slices or yum yums are great for a comforting lunch or afternoon treat and I’m happy no-one looked down their nose at that. Kush did a great job as always and Barry managed to keep up. Sort of. Well…erm, yeah lol😂
I legit cant watch the episodes with an audience. It ruins everything i enjoyed about this channel, the intimate nature of your friendship with each other, the authenticity. The laughing feels way toi much like it sitcom laugh track and you guys are not focused on eachother or us, instead worried about entertaining the people in the audience. I dont want to hear the audience AT all and i dont want to watch you playing to them. I come here for the vibes of you guys together and the calm and informative way you talk to us.
I feel not right for complaining because i don't pay for this content but the live audience in the videos as of late, make it a lot less enjoyable to watch. It feels like being on a date and your date has brought another person she's also on a date with. Its fine she's dating someone else but not at the same time, please.
@@anyaakovalchuk who is the You, you are speaking to? I'm very curious what a problematic para social relationship is. I've never heard of the term. Oh yeah, and I'm not a native speaker so bear with me.
The studio is beautiful and the audience is clearly a step in the right direction. Interaction irl with the people who got you to where you are can never be a bad thing and shouldnt just be hidden away offline. They arent acting or doing anything unnatural just because theres an audience there. They are INTERacting with the audience. The anti audience mob is a screaming minority
@metalpuppet5798 i disagree, it makes this feel like a morning show cooking segment vs the Sorted brand that has been built over the last decade. The new set will grow and be less sterile. Their last place had brick and felt more inviting and lived in, vs the stagged feel with the bright white slabs of walls. The audience, gives nothing but a laugh track feel. I am going to keep watching for a bit, but the feel is far less enjoyable... I didn't enjoy this video and with the size of TH-cam I can find something else less morning show cooking segment.
I wish there was some form of acknowledgment happening about our feelings on these live audience episodes. There’s been pushback for long enough now that enough time has passed to formulate a proper response. There’s a community manager for a reason, and it leaves a really bad taste in the mouth to see you guys liking and replying to positive comments but ignoring all of the constructive criticism/negative ones.
This was the most panto like video yet. The calling out to the audience throughout, constantly overacting for their benefit, and all the chaos just felt forced rather than organic. Having the audience count down with you is giving me flashbacks to Ready Steady Cook. I don't want to go back there.
And unfortunately they're probably not going to get rid of the audience, at least not anytime soon, because the new studio looks like it's set up intentionally to accommodate said audience I don't know who told them it was a good idea for a YT channel to be set up like a live studio tv show
@@jakefairley6993 Seems like they didn't know why their channel was successful. They seem intent on throwing much of their appeal away in search of being the very thing that we watch YT to avoid - TV.
Audience still makes everything worse. It's nobody's fault, everyone acts differently with an audience. Just changes the normal matey dynamic as well as people hamming it up. Not a fan.
Kush goes from gentle, encouraging teacher to slightly insane glinty-eyed super-villain in one breath!!!!...and Barry is just...Barry!!! ...you want me to clean up? I'll just eat all the debris!!!... I am loving this!
I always love watching Kush's organized chaos and creativity! This is one of my favorite formats. I will say that I don't mind the studio audience in moderation. I've always loved hearing the laughter from the rest of the crew behind the camera and this isn't too different than that. However, I don't think every format is improved (or at least not negatively impacted) by a studio audience. The livestreams, certain cooking competitions, this video for instance, or the burger throw down they did are places where the audience could work. It definitely changes the dynamic, especially because some of the Sorted guys can't help but play to the audience. It gives the video a Beat Bobby Flay vibe, which isn't necessarily bad, but it is different and can feel intrusive for certain formats. I think if they are selective about when they use it, a studio audience could be a nice addition and a good way to connect with their viewers, but only in moderation.
I definitely agree with the people who are saying the vibe is different since you moved to the new studio. I don't know if it's the look of it or what but it feels more like a produced TV show than a bunch of mates making cool food videos and putting them out on the internet. I'm sure there's some growing pains and getting used to the new studio but it definitely feels a bit different after having that consistency for such a long period of time.
Interesting Fact - I was born and raised in a place called Gosforth, just a couple miles outside of Newcastle City centre. Gosforth was the birthplace of Greggs. The first store was opened on Gosforth High Street and still remains in the same place. Even Keifer Sutherland visited it a few years back. As a child I remember seeing Mr Greggs all the time… as he lived just over the road from us and two doors down. Definitely proud to be from the birth place of the “Greggs Dummy” (Sausage roll… nicknamed due to the fact they were shoved in kids mouths to shut them up!). There is now also a permanent “Posh Greggs” restaurant located in Fenwick Department store in Newcastle City centre… maybe worth a visit from you boys to compare your creations with the Greggs professionals! Keep up the good work boys.
Sorry lads but there's a reason "Filmed in front of a live studio audience" only happens on gameshows nowadays. If you're going to go this route, at least lean into it and have audience participation! Have them vote on the winner or choose the 5 mystery ingredients in real time! I'd still prefer without an audience, but if you must have it DO something with it! Because right now you have the worst of both worlds. The feeling of detachment from them focusing on someone else removes what we loved about this. Yet you have no interaction or randomness that might offset it, just a negative with no upside. Outside the few hundred you're making off the tickets of course, because it seems that's already starting to be counterbalanced by the view count drop by the looks of it. And that's with many of us giving benefit of the doubt that it'll change once we're through the prerecorded ones...
They cant for one taste it and judge as if anything happens they are completely liable, as for the filming of the audience. They did not come to be filmed, would you like to buy a ticket for a film you'd really like to see then in turn get a camera in your face? I don't think so. The videos have not lost anything, if anything even know that there is the crowd, the wilful remarks that actually now get a laugh actually adds to the whole thing. Don't post your comment, then edit it as YOU did something wrong, and then try to spread hate. Plenty other things you could watch...
Indont mind the live shows but the audience in all the videos is a no from me. I end up not watching so many of them because im not a fan of the audience thing when i used to watch every one
I think it’s tough to maintain your candor and comfort when you have guests. I’m sure it’s fun for those who are there, but I feel like everyone is losing.
The audience brothers me because it interrupts the flow of the video with a sudden sound i cannot predict. It gives me a headache after long enough. I know this is specific to me but I did try to make it through this one to give it a shot.
@@vaazig Theres this amazing thing called editing. You know, where you can snip out annoying sections of an already-recorded video... Hell, youtube even lets you do it in already uploaded videos.
@@DarkElfofVulcan But the content is still the same. If you're watching a cooking show for anything but its content, it starts sounding like a parasocial relationship or a coping mechanism of sorts, which is a whole other story, of course.
@@anyaakovalchuk *Shrug.* Everyone has their own reasons for watching. And frankly, if the vibes of the old set are different for some people, that's their perception and who are we to argue with it? Everyone has the right to like or dislike things, and if they dislike the change it's normal for them to say so. If SORTED chooses not to change things back, that's their choice but people voicing their concerns now is the logical step before they go find something else to watch. And to be frank, you're on the parasocial video site. I don't know what to tell you. That's how creators make money off people.
@@DarkElfofVulcan See this is exactly what I mean, why would people have 'concerns' over the set of a channel? If it starts impacting people so much they have a reaction of disappointment or hatred, I think things have gone too far. And as to TH-cam being a parasocial video site by nature, I don't know, I have never even considered that. We just put on an episode or two as we're cooking, and it almost replaces regular tv shows you'd have in the background (and we don't even need a telly license). Nothing is inherently parasocial until you start using it as a coping mechanism for something.
Regarding the audience, it puts a screen between us and the boys, they act different when there is an audience, most of your shows don’t need an audience. Save it for when interaction is needes
Having the audience makes watching these a cross between 'The Kitchen' and 'Top Gear' and not in a good way... Edit: Barely 3 hours into the video and after reading these responses to my comment, I took a look at the rest of the comments and counted over 35 about the audience, I stopped counting but I'm sure there were more. Some were positive... most were negative. Many commented that it takes away from the YT format and takes us, the viewers, out of the audience seat and I have to agree with that sentiment. Not all change is good. Do you want them to turn into another Guga Foods? I understand that the Sorted team likely films several or more videos at a time and even if they do make changes, we might not see them for awhile. Reminds me of the sponsored adverts coming across as actual review videos. Lots of backlash there and the team made welcome changes. Hope to see the same about the audience participation.
Lol. The other day I was talking to a friend who also watches sorted and I said that with the travel challenges etc it’s become a bit like “food top gear”. I’m so happy you said this.
Agreed. I fucking hate the audience, i actually just skim episodes and often just shut them off now. I have zero interest in hearing them in any form or way.
The audience hasn't even changed anything. It's just a little more ooo's and ahhh's and at least one minor acknowledgement from one of the cooks. It's literally 99% sorted 1% audience
I was onboard until it became clear that this had an audience. No. The feedback is quite obvious. I assume the batch of recorded videos with the audience in them should have either come to an end or be coming to an end so I think it's time to listen to the feedback.
You are a blatant liar. You are clearly a bitching minority. VERY clearly. Just have a look at the amount of comments and compare it. Besides them connecting with the fans in a more direct way can only be positive for the channel and they should be proud of it and NOT hide it off camera
These one-a-day December videos have been batch recorded for sure, if change has been made it won't be shown for a quite a while. And for the record, I also think having a persistent live audience goes against the vibe of the channel.
@@sugalbes8153 exactly this! its like barry is on drugs, he is so nervous! i was already exhausted before i knew there was an audience in this one. cant watch it. its the same kind of artificial as having a tiktok girl shout into my face.
Mike mentioned recently that they’re also trying to learn about doing better audio - I hope this improves as the levels were off here so I found myself making it louder to hear the dialogue and then the awkward audience noises come in really loud and it’s even more jarring. Really hope the dial back the audience stuff a lot based on the feedback, glad it’s not just me that feels it’s ruined it too.
Barry really goes the extra extra hypo when the audience is in the studio which can be a bit off putting but with Kush cooking he's one of the best chefs next to Ebbers always well worth a look at what he can create.
Chef Kush Wows again! I know a lot of people don't like the live audience, but it doesn't distract too much with this sound set-up, and is fun for special occasions. I have to say, though - this live event looks so good. I'm so sad I'll be missing it. I can't swing almost $55 Canadian for my amusement this close to Christmas (or any other time, really). Have fun, boys!
@ people are allowed to say what they think and not be shamed into being yes men. How can the channel really grow if all comments aren’t taken into consideration? It’s constructive feedback. Not whinging.
So I took some time to see if I liked this new experience in the new studio. I remember the studio before this feeling quite cold at first too, it's a space that grows with you, I get it. But the live audience? Not for me. The boys come across different. I much prefered the interactions with the crew. Their laughter, sometimes sneezing behind the camera was fun and it felt genuine. Will I still watch? Of course, I've been here before all the marriages and kids. But I will get less enjoyment out of the experience
Guys, I havent said til now, but its really getting too much with the audience. It's like having a laughtrack on a sitcom. LAUGH NOW. THIS FUNNY. And instead of laughing myself, I end up rolling my eyes. Have them in the studio, fine. I just don't want to hear or acknowledge them, ever.
@@MrKot19These videos are filmed way in advance, if they are planning on cutting back on the live audience videos it'll take some time for that to show in the uploads

@@maromania7True, my problem with this is that they have been almost silent about it, aside from a comment here and there and in the live episode. I get that you guys really had this grand idea in your head about including the audience and maybe that was your goal all along. It's just more American Food Network TV than intimate TH-cam channel. They are more focused on the audience than the TH-camrs watching. Focusing on the audience is how it's suppose to be when it's a television show. If they want to have a separate channel with an audience that focuses on their local community, that would be awesome!! The locals absolutely deserve to be there and experience them one on one. It's completely different for the global community not feeling completely focused on while these are being filmed.
I was an avid viewer of your channel. I’m unable to enjoy the newer videos (in the new studio) because of the live audience. The whole dynamic has changed and the conversations/reactions/opinions all seem to look fake or forced (don’t know the correct word here). That’s just my personal opinion but good luck with your future videos and content. Also purchased the tickets to the live show, can’t wait for it! Cheers
I for one enjoy the new format Sorted is doing with the audience. Too bad so many don’t and I hope there can be happy medium to please the ones who don’t and the ones, like myself who do.
I can only hope that all of these were recorded before the first video with an audience was posted. Otherwise they heard all the community feedback that the audience ruins the video but decided to keep doing it anyway 🙁
Compare the number of negative comments to the number of views and more importantly likes. Just because a few hundred people in the comments are frustrated, doesn't mean it's the majority. Most of us either like or simply don't care at all about these changes, as this is just a TH-cam channel after all.
@@anyaakovalchuk There are still third-party apps out there that display the dislikes that a video has received, and adding those into the equation paints a clearer picture. So let's compare this with the poker face video from the day before and party food video from the day after, neither of which had the audience. Poker Face: 290k views, 14.9k likes, 84 dislikes. Party Food: 174k views, 8.3k likes, 92 dislikes. This video? 218k views, 10.6k likes, 1.1k dislikes. Likes to views hasn't changed much - you still have around 5% of viewers giving it a like, but viewers giving dislikes on any video with an audience has a very noticeable uptick, 0.5% on vids with an audience compared to just 0.04% without. Audience videos are consistently getting over 10x the number of dislikes of non-audience videos.
Reaction number one: YES, a new video from my favorite UK lads ! Reaction number two: I dont understand GREGGS, but I fully trust them to make a good and funny thing about it ! Reaction number three: NAY !!!!!!!!! Another live audience 😞. Seriously Sorted Food, do you really want to continue to piss of most of your 2.83M subscribers who are not the 10 of people who are in your studio ?
Hi, we're listening to feedback and we've had a bunch of filming days with community members involved. We tend to shoot 2-3 videos when they're in, so naturally, any changes will take some time to come through. We do understand it won't be everyone's cup of tea, no matter what we do!
@@SortedFood Thank you very much for your kind reply. I totally understand that it will take some time, because you are shooting in advance. And of course, no matter what you do or what you dont do, its impossible to make everybody happy. I love your channel and it gives me so much joy, and I really appreciate that you are reaching out to us and taking our comments seriously.
BTW: I wish to travel to the UK soon again, and try GREGGS, to be able to find out, what that is all about :-). And then, I will also try Yorkshire Puddings, because thats another complete culinary mistery from the UK for me.
I too found the studio noise a bit strange at first, but things change. Remember their first vids seemed to be shot in a Uni. dorm kitchen. Now the new studio gives them scope to do a huge amount more & they're still working out their teething problems. I just mentally tune out the crowd, though some 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩! Jamie 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩! do play to the peanut gallery. 😆🥜
@@Getpojke its not about the crowd. thats why i didnt understand why people hated it in the beginning. i can tune out the crowd. its how they behave like they are on drugs. i watched this for the relaxed friendly atmosphere, not for the laughs. and barry cant even wait for someone to finish their sentence without overreacting to every word. it is exhausting.
Surely the lighting in the studio is not too hard of a fix? I agree with the comments that this blue/purple tone makes the atmosphere feel cold and uninviting. Still love the Sorted cast and their banter, but it's a shame if the surrounding environment is detracting away from that!
Oh thank goodness. I was worried Kush was waiting at the old studio still. He's a great chef, but I don't imagine directions are his thing! (Just kidding, love Kush)
I would love to see a surprise plating challenge where everyone believes they are in a normal cooking battle and have to plate their dish three times. Then, with just 5 minutes left on the clock, they are unexpectedly tasked with plating their dish in three distinct and creative ways. The winner will be the one who shows the most creativity and quality in their plating options.
Weird view where a handful benefit in person and thousands are hindered at home. Hopefully there’s a time lag as to when these where recorded and we will see less live audience when the filming date meets the current time
"A handful benefit in person and thousands are hindered at home" is exactly what I was thinking! Making few fans feel like a VIP at the cost of alienating thousands of fans is not good exchange rate! And it's even wierder, because there is some kind of echo, due to the audience watching from above and not being in the shot, that gives it a fake can laughter vibe from cheap sitcom. When they had an audience in the old studio it was sparsely and they were always in the shot.
@@Lark1610do any of you hear yourself? The people there aren't meant to vips, they are there because the boys want to host. They built a new studio with hosting space. Not to make you feel lesser, but so they can host when they can. Because they like hosting. If you feel lesser than the live audience, look into yourself, not at them.
@@CreachterZ Yeah, when they were starting out as small TH-camrs. Now they're clearly trying their best to be more professional and have successful careers, I'm personally glad that they've gone in this direction, and perhaps this will serve as a wake-up call to the people who have (perhaps accidentally) formed parasocial relationships with the guys.
congratulations, the live audience is having the opposite effect on me, it's giving me a teaser for the live shows and making me never want to order one. Are you going to address the live audience in a podcast or has that stopped? Maybe it'll come back if they can get an audience to watch along...?
I'm not usually one to post comments (and this is a long one, sorry 😅) but I do think the hate for the live audience is getting out of hand. The comments I've seen so far on this video have been friendlier and more along the lines of constructive criticism but so many comments about it in general have been unnecessarily harsh. I wasn't super jazzed when they said they'd be trying a live audience in the studio because my brain immediately went "oh no, it's going to turn into another Ready Steady Cook" but I haven't really found that to be the case. And the audience has actually grown on me 😊 You can for sure pick up on the sense of heightened energy in the room but I really don't think the dynamics between the guys has fundamentally changed. They’ve always been silly with each other and played to the camera so I've always been confused about the pantomime comments. I just get the sense that some people are only mad because having other people in the room feels like it takes some of the attention away from /them specifically/ (the viewer). I'm really not trying to be mean, I say this in more of a "let's take a step back and analyse this parasocial relationship" way but some of these comments really give off a sense of entitlement and like, ownership(?) over the boys. People will expound on how much they've been a fan of Sorted for years but then launch into some rather vitriolic nonsense in the very next sentence (I've mostly seen them on other videos. Again, the comments on this video have been pretty friendly and constructive). I just, I don't know. If you're as much of a fan as you say you are and care about the team, then why not give them some space to grow, you know? Give them the grace to settle into a new format a bit before writing it all off as no good. I'm sure it would be a bit awkward initially to have a bunch of new people staring over you in your workspace, too. And they have addressed the feedback - they're taking it on board but since they film in batches, there's a bit of a backlog to get through. We might give them the platform and revenue to grown into what they've become but they're ultimately just people too. Sometimes they might want to make changes for themselves - remember they've been at this for 10+ years at this point. Anyway, that's all to say - keep exploring and keep changing, boys! I've been watching since the collab you did with Elise Strachan forever ago and it's been awesome to see you guys grow and prosper over the years ☺️
Love to see Jamie getting some instant feedback about how popular Greggs is for any non-Brits watching! Not to mention Kush finally putting a little pressure on Barry given that he's got the Sous apron back on!
"Famous worldwide" and now I feel like I live under a rock for never having heard of Greggs haha loved seeing the magic of Kush again. This is such a fun series!!
It is also worth noting that as a genuinely English company from the North East and still under original ownership, they give a huge amount of money to feeding children within the North East, which is one of the most deprived regions in the UK.
Original .pdf ownership?
The English company / charity stuff is nice but worth us bearing in mind it’s ultimately unhealthy UPF contributing to the obesity crisis so have to be wary of green-washing
I didn't know that, but how wonderful!
They do it all over the UK.
I agree with you, as do many here in the comments section. The live audience angle is not working!
Anyone else really miss the lighting from the old studio? This blueish/purplish vibe feels really off and cold to me. 😅😂
definitely! i also don’t like the audience laugh track and their being watched behaviour, but i really miss the warm lighting, brick wall and plant wall of the old studio. they made it so lovely with the additions over the last years, i find it a shame the new one looks much smaller from the camera angle with a reflecting window and stack of tupperware behind them, cold lighting and a generally less cozy aesthetic.
Yes, I commented this before as well. Blue and food don't go together, and it looks very cold.
The lighting is fine and good and professional but the crowd is annoying because they have to perform to a certain extent for them
A big NO to the purple lighting. It's just plain unappetizing.
Agree about the lighting. Also if you have an audience can we see some shots of them and a camera shot from their viewpoint maybe.
I am sure a great amount of effort goes into every video and I have a huge amount of respect for all of you for that. Having said that, with the studio audience, the banter / interaction doesn’t feel genuine any more. Any chance of a return to the old format?
Agreed! Not a fan at all
I hate it so much that I've started skipping the ones with an audience.... and you can always tell right from the start cause of the mugging for camera
@@desigirl9719 agreed
So, so agree!!
Do keep in mind that a lot of these videos were recorded awhile ago so it will be a bit before they can actually make any changes.
Not that this will be able to change, but I actually miss the old studio - solely for the lighting. I find the darker background was more attractive. Doesn't really detract from much, but from a lighting angle, the new studio feels like a step backwards. I'm sure it's a vastly better space for what you're doing, however.
old studio was so much better than this, I dont know how they have managed to upgrade to objectively visually worse setup
Isn't the new studio just Janice's house?
they have years and years of building up and evolving the old studio, of course its gonna look better (albeit the old kitchen has more depth). but, this one is no different. give it time.
A Kush video! This day got less boring.
Enjoy!
Yeah, haven’t seen him in the new studio at all
@@nimajneB621 He probably hates the audience as much as we do on youtube.
@@SortedFoodAre you going to respond to the criticism of these live audience episodes anytime soon or are you going to keep ignoring the comments? Genuinely curious
@@SortedFooddo something to the reflection on the back of the window.
Baz cant be normal with an audience.
he is so annoying this way. he mimes some reaction to every word someone says..
Jamie is also over exaggerated. Doesn’t bother me tho, I can still enjoy the content
I reckon ! He just goes too far ... The rest seem okay with it.
I recommend doing something about that back window. At best, it adds nothing, and at worst, some moving reflections are really distracting. A frosted glaze could work well and allow for something like colored backlighting
The lighting is pretty distracting too.
Interesting. I really like the window as it is!
Honestly I don't even notice it on the initial watch. It can be a bit amusing to look at it later to see a "behind the scenes" of what is happening off camera. On that note I saw an Ebbers on screen just randomly digging through cabinets at one point lol
Yeah I feel like I constantly see people walking up the stairs and it pulls focus for me
Don’t even need frosting, just a curtain would do and mean they can work seamlessly indoors and outdoors when they need to
My goodness, it's like Kush is trying to wrangle a hungry, confused but ever so eager-to-help golden retriever while cooking 😂
Indeed.
Almost like its scripted
I hope the boys can learn to ignore the audience. I know it’s hard cuz I’m struggling to do so myself while watching. I think beyond the changes in dynamic, it’s that the show is now us watching a performance for other people, rather than watching a show made for us at home. Does that make sense to anyone else?
Totally.
Why learn to ignore? They could just ditch the audience.
Yep, agree with this.
@@Picoreefo yeah
Or just get rid of them, literally nobody was calling for this live audience format.
The unnatural and bright light just doesn't work for food, makes it all feel a bit off
@@soopafamicom I totally agree. The audience does distract the chefs and the normals.
The set is ugly to look at.
Agreed. Not a fan of the audience at all
I think if you guys want to give Kush a real challenge, take away the food processors and blenders.
Ah, the old Little Chef model
Yay, new Sorted Food video! Then I hear the audience laughing track, sees the constant playing up to the audience, unnatural shenanigans, and I realise this will be another video where I am watching Sorted Food from the outside, rather than being immersed in the video. Was a nice 1 min at least
Just want to voice the alternative to say that I like the live audience and the enthusiasm the Sorted cast have with them. If it spices up the environment for them and makes it more exciting, ignore the haters as they're not saying anything constructive - just repeating the same thing over and over, and keep going.
lol get a grip.
I havent been able to finish a video with an audience. And im not one to not finish a video. Esp when the laughter is giving sitcom laugh track vibes.
Scrub through the video to check and click off the instant it becomes clear the audience is there.
I get they are really trying to grow, but I really don't care for the audience as well. Maybe like every other episode?
Yay Kush. Definitely need more videos with Kush. And let the madness begin.
"In kush we trust, (said no one)" needs to be on some merch! With a blow torch image.
It would be nice if they just muted the audience track in the edit. Just mix it down. Would save so many comments.
dumb comments. but comments nonthe less yea.i get its not everyoens cup of tea. but some here need to work on there parasocial relationship >.> the stuff i read is concerning regarding the audience.
No! Anything but Poppy!
I enjoy the new studio. But the purple lighting is off putting. Makes me less feel like eating. Please change it
Yep, blue and food just don't go together...
I think it’s right that the audience gives them honest feedback, hopefully they listen
That's a weirdly parasocial way of phrasing it.
You do kinda pay them, through viewing ads. However, one doesnt need to pay for something to criticise it.
You might have a problematic parasocial relationship with Sorted, remember this is a TH-cam channel, not a group of your friends!
@@anyaakovalchuk who is the You, you are speaking to?
I'm very curious what a problematic para social relationship is.
I've never heard of the term. Oh yeah, and I'm not a native speaker so bear with me.
The new studio and the audience makes this feel like a bad morning show now. The magic is fleeting.
Denial isn't just a river in Egypt...
I almost prefer being ignored to the repeated 'we hear you' cut & pasted on dozens of comments on previous videos.
There is. Have you been anywhere but TH-cam comments? Plenty of discussion and even a post from spaff on the sorted food Reddit for example.
@RickStormT it's a youtube channel. Why would I go anywhere but youtube for it? I dont want to follow each of their social medias.
I think these video was recorded before the first one that was criticized was posted.
This was the most panto like video yet. The calling out to the audience throughout, constantly overacting for their benefit, and all the chaos just felt forced rather than organic. Having the audience count down with you is giving me flashbacks to Ready Steady Cook. I don't want to go back there.

@@jakefairley6993 Seems like they didn't know why their channel was successful. They seem intent on throwing much of their appeal away in search of being the very thing that we watch YT to avoid - TV.
Kush, being a greggs fan, shows what a man of the people he really is.
Audience still makes everything worse. It's nobody's fault, everyone acts differently with an audience. Just changes the normal matey dynamic as well as people hamming it up. Not a fan.
2:55 a wild Ebbers appears, thought you can see his reflection in the window as he comes down the stairs before that.
10:27 The look on Kush's face has had me laughing to the point the neighbours are complaining.
@CallumScott-q9q a lot of people disagree with you, the audience videos are definitely different from the audienceless ones.
@NGCAnderopolis so everyone wants the world to be better, but no one wants to embrace change?
@@CallumScott-q9q just how is that statement relevant to mine?
People are explicitly saying they dislike this change, not that it is better
It is joy to see Kush smiling and teaching.....
Please get rid of studio audience they take away significantly
Kush is back! also gotta say, as an American, I've always wanted to try Greggs, and Nandos
Kush seemed less cheery and more frustrated with Barry. The food looked really yummy.
Well, Barry is an idiot. Too busy talking to Jaime. If he worked in a real kitchen, I bet he'd be fired the first day.
The audience brothers me because it interrupts the flow of the video with a sudden sound i cannot predict. It gives me a headache after long enough. I know this is specific to me but I did try to make it through this one to give it a shot.
You are not alone! Plenty of us watching less now, hopefully they listen
They cant listen. Rhey clearly pre-recorded these episodes, so any change cant happen until Christmas.
@@vaazig Theres this amazing thing called editing. You know, where you can snip out annoying sections of an already-recorded video...
Hell, youtube even lets you do it in already uploaded videos.
@@MrKot19 Plenty? A few hundred people will not make much of a difference, hate to tell you...
The TV Chef Vibes of having an audience to "perform" to is becoming really difficult to watch.
why is it difficult? it's the norm for cooking shows, from what I've seen
@@anyaakovalchuk I think because people don't come here for a normal cooking show, they come for whatever SORTED was. Which, was not that.
There has always been a screen between you and the guys though?
@ good one!
Kush needs his own restaurant where we can all sample that dish because it looked and sounded incredible!
I really dont care for the audience- just changed everything
Yeah I'm really not sure why they felt the need to try and force a reality TV feel to the show.
I was onboard until it became clear that this had an audience.
No. The feedback is quite obvious. I assume the batch of recorded videos with the audience in them should have either come to an end or be coming to an end so I think it's time to listen to the feedback.
Let's hope, it feels like they've been amplified
Barry making a Wonton?
(Intense flashbacks of Barry making wontons with a very sticky dough and saying that James’s recipe has an error)
They are not Wontons, they are Barry's Bags
Barry really goes the extra extra hypo when the audience is in the studio which can be a bit off putting but with Kush cooking he's one of the best chefs next to Ebbers always well worth a look at what he can create.
Chef Kush Wows again! I know a lot of people don't like the live audience, but it doesn't distract too much with this sound set-up, and is fun for special occasions.
I have to say, though - this live event looks so good. I'm so sad I'll be missing it. I can't swing almost $55 Canadian for my amusement this close to Christmas (or any other time, really). Have fun, boys!
It’s gotten more and more like those daytime TV cooking segments. The bad ones.
A bit like the ongoing whining and complaining of the comment section. Ironic really.
You all deserve kudos for putting on so much content this month!
Kush's mind needs to be studied 😅 he's a culinary wizard
Adding my voice to the group that is getting real tired of the audience laughter. I know you guys know already, but yeah.
I’d really hoped they’d have heard by now but it’s not looking promising, really loved this channel before the audience fiasco
@@MrKot19These videos are filmed way in advance, if they are planning on cutting back on the live audience videos it'll take some time for that to show in the uploads
@@Linkrules7Exactly. Patience until Christmas.
@@MrKot19 IIRC the audience tickets are only sold for 1 day a month, meaning basically all of this was recorded over 1-2 days depending on how far in advance they record. So even if they heard, it'll be quite a bit before they can react (outside things they can fix in post, like volume.)
@@maromania7True, my problem with this is that they have been almost silent about it, aside from a comment here and there and in the live episode. When I see the amount of discourse the live audience creates in the comment section I believe it warrants a statement from the guys on what we can expect going forward.
Personally I tried to give it a shot and hope it got better, but the magic is just gone with the live audience. Instead of being present with a group of guys having fun and cooking some great stuff, it has become like watching a TV show where we watch from the outside. That is not what I am looking for in a stream, youtube video or similar.
I get that you guys really had this grand idea in your head about including the audience and maybe that was your goal all along. But the community feedback is pretty clear in my eyes and it should be outright stopped entirely or muted to the point we can't even tell they exist.
If they actually had a point like being a mystery guest judging the food i would be all for it. But i do not give a single shit about some guy laughing in the rafters
A kush video! The day just got BETTER
Audience needs to go.
Sorry boys
What do you mean transforms Greggs into something incredible? Serve as is, job done.
Better still, go to any other bakery where you'll get better quality at half the price, and the pies/sausage rolls will actually be warm.

9:21 KUSH AGENT OF CHAOS STRIKES AGAIN! PLATE DOWN! PLATE DOWN
Always love the Kush Khaos!
Deliberate misspell chaos.
Missed ya kush, what a “smashing” appearance 😂
I was an avid viewer of your channel. I’m unable to enjoy the newer videos (in the new studio) because of the live audience. The whole dynamic has changed and the conversations/reactions/opinions all seem to look fake or forced (don’t know the correct word here). That’s just my personal opinion but good luck with your future videos and content.
Also purchased the tickets to the live show, can’t wait for it! Cheers
+1 for the studio audience making it feel awful
I for one enjoy the new format Sorted is doing with the audience.
Too bad so many don’t and I hope there can be happy medium to please the ones who don’t and the ones, like myself who do.
I love the cocktail, it made me want to try and make it myself
I can only hope that all of these were recorded before the first video with an audience was posted.
Otherwise they heard all the community feedback that the audience ruins the video but decided to keep doing it anyway 🙁
you're a minority
@Dalimyr it is still a very small percentage, so even if the number of people disliking is larger, it's still quite miniscule on the larger scale.
More Kush - Yayyyy!
First Sorted video ever I had to stop watching. I didn't like the past ones with an audience, but this one took the cake
Another great video, thanks Sorted Team! I'm happy with the balance between audience v no audience videos!
I gotta say that Ebbers totally slays in drag as a queen. Looking good in that promo.

Are you joining us at the weekend?
@@SortedFood Unfortunately I"m skint this weekend. I'd love to though.
Aww, man!! 🔥🔥🔥 Kush vids are the best. 🎉
Sorry, the audience turns this into something like a panto - everyone is hamming it up.
I used that description to a friend just the other day! Glad someone else thinks so
They're having fun and it shows, I say keep going 🎉
Well it is Christmas
OH NO THEY AREN'T.
Please dump the audience. It adds nothing and makes the whole experience less personal.
It's like watching Scooby Doo or the Big Bang Theory.
You're watching a cooking show for it to feel.... personal?
@ This is a big part of the success of this show.
@ I guarantee the YouRube viewers are FAR more important than a small audience.
the moment the countdown finished and kush definitely had a look of "what have I done?"
It feels too much like acting with the audiences there
You smashed it Kush!
Having the audience reminds me of watching Top Gear. Which one of you guys is Jeremy Clarkson? 😂😂😂
2:58 Barry births Ben, 3:00 Ben immediately rummaged in the kitchen hahaha
congratulations, the live audience is having the opposite effect on me, it's giving me a teaser for the live shows and making me never want to order one. Are you going to address the live audience in a podcast or has that stopped? Maybe it'll come back if they can get an audience to watch along...?
As a Scot Greggs is close to my heart! My Polish kids even love them when we visit Scotland! This was an amazing transformation!
And the audience has actually grown on me 😊
You can for sure pick up on the sense of heightened energy in the room but I really don't think the dynamics between the guys has fundamentally changed.
I mean I only know of them because some english youtubers. But yea if not for that I'd have no idea what Gregg's even is.
Ready Steady Sorted.
