EDIT 3 (2/22/14): Take what I say in this tutorial with a grain of salt. This was made back in 2011 when I was much less experienced, and YTP has changed substantially since then. This only covers basic editing techniques used in more traditional Poops and doesn't go into the different styles and genres that are out there. Furthermore, the "What to Avoid" section was only a set of recommendations for beginners, not a list of iron rules (though a couple never will be acceptable, like "webcam Pooping" or making Poops with next to no edits). Experienced Poopers know and understand how to use Spadinner to their advantage, make running jokes work, keep their material fresh, and how to make Poops that are long but still engaging (like I said at 13:07. So stop fucking telling me "I broke my own rule" by making Megapoops and learn to listen!). Anyway, those of you who've been keeping track of my updates know that I have a more up-to-date YTP "tutorial" planned (see the link below).

On request I've created a tutorial on how to make TH-cam Poop (using Sony Vegas). Sorry if it doesn't go that in depth with how to use Vegas; I wanted to focus more on the techniques and what to avoid.

I one time found a YTP that just a a spongebob episode rotating. Nothing else.
Maybe that was a part of the joke. Not all of them have to have repeated clips, or distorted voices, or splicing words together to make them sound like something else. I hate how this video makes it seem like there are rules or standards for youtube poops. There are not. Hence why it's called TH-cam Poop. It's not supposed to make sense. It's supposed to be nonsense bullshit.

Tbf these are still good rules. 3 years later The only ones ive seen broken regularly to good affect, are length and meme replacement . Even than his problem with length is adding long bits just to make the video “better” which is still true and meme replacement needs to be done well and preferably in short videos where its the only joke.
You have to know the rules well to effectively break them.

This video is Pooper Boot Camp. I watched it thoroughly when I was first starting, and I think it should be a basic YTP lesson for all budding beginners.

MoBrosStudios: Using an AI voice based from the real voice actors or people is something that they say what they want by text to speech. But if you're going to use it in YTP or something you have to give permission & credit to people for their characters or persona. Otherwise, they might issue a copyright strike.

5:53 is "keyframing", not panning.
Panning refers to keyframing your source material to make it move like flying around, spinning etc., "keyframing" is a more general term

I pretty much understood the whole concept of TH-cam pooping and I've actually made a few in the past... I felt like a n00b looking up a video on how to make them, but this is insanely elaborate. I'm definitely going to use these tactics in my own now. Good video ;D

I wanted to tell you you were a huge inspiration to me. This tutorial helped me 8 years ago to start developing the dream to start editing videos. I have multiple things I wanna do, but TH-cam poop was always one of them. I procrastinated a lot and now I'm 26 years old, but just in the past month and a half, I finally took the first steps to start making my own TH-cam videos and poops. I came back to this video to rewatch old advice and let you know that I still appreciate you and other poopers for being an inspiration.
YTP is way different now than it used to be, but I still love it and can't wait to see more content from you.
2:22 it's funny looking back on this because by all accounts this is comedy gold in today's standards
and I thought youtube poops were hard to make. I've also seen a 20 minute long poop called "Sonic generations directors cut" I almost died laughing.

Pretty solid advice.
I learned a lot from watching really good YTP videos (Waxinator is a great example, his videos are really well produced with good use of running jokes and references to other things). I also learnt a ton from bad Poops, too much looping has to be the worst YTP crimes.
You can improve them a ton just by thinking of it from the perspective of a viewer, cutting down on annoying shit and trimming down some clips. "Brevity is the soul of wit", keep videos nice and tight.
And it may sound obvious, but going from WMM to Sony Vegas improved my videos no end. You can do some really cool effects (again, in moderation)
This is very informative, even though I probably won't make any ytp's it's still very good for info on making them.
Very well done MoBros! Honestly, I believe that even to this day, this is still a great tutorial on YTP! Seriously, can you believe it was made in 2011? And it still holds up this day! While you won't see any of the more modern memes as examples here due to the video being very old, I would still recommend people watch this if they want to start making YTPs!

I could think of a dozen people who need this video. The really shitty part is that there are a lot of popular TH-cam poopers that make these mistakes and nobody calls them out on it. Our standard shouldn't be lowering at this point. Step it up guys!

If you use a Mac, the software that's the most like Vegas Pro is Apple Final Cut Pro X and Adobe Premiere Pro CC.
I'm steadily improving my YTP techniques as described here; I just need to improve on unedited footage (I now try to keep it to a minimum of 10 seconds) laying off the SpaDinner stuff (and even there I seem to be using it less, trying out more sentence mixing and such.) Also, the lengths of my poops generally depend on the length of the source material I use. But in some ways I can improve; I can do a YTP of a 74-minute movie in 11 minutes or less.

How about narrative writing for yt poops? figuring from the base material what the story
narrative will be set around and collating the source material that's useful for it.
Replace the message you are getting from this and think of real poop. Imagine if he were talking about real poop. Then listen to it again. "Length does not determine the quality of a poop." Boy, was I taught differently in school.

You don't need creativity. All you need is to mash things together until they don't make sense, and then proudly upload it.
Pretty much. There are no rules to a youtube poop. It's not supposed to make sense or there to be any rules. Just do what you want. Some of the more well known people who make youtube poop videos, their vids are not funny at all. Some unknown youtube poopers who make their shit on Windows Movie Maker, or just speed up a bunch of 5 second vine clips or don't really follow a theme or whatever with random clips or whatever, are way funnier. Maybe I'm just an alien and weird.
My first 2 YTPs where the worst, but once I watched this thing again, I got better and I met up with a guy I REALLY wanted to meet called *****. Thank you so much MoBros for this tutorial! I saw your other tutorial, and with genre, I stick with funny and random.

You broke your tenth rule with the realese of Skellington's revenge (But that doesn't mean I hate you).
There's a couple things people miss about the "What to Avoid" section: most of the "rules" are not iron rules, but recommendations for beginners. Like with any art form, the "rules" of TH-cam Poop have to be learned and understood before they can be broken effectively. (Also note that I made this 2 and a half years ago, when I wasn't as experienced as I am now).

Tech text kinda lost a little of its charm now that videos can be set to .25 speed on yourube, making it much easier to pause and see the text
