Smells Good off the top of my head I’d say Layton from pdm it’s a small step from designer to niche. And I’m in agreement with you, sunshine Man,is my favourite from Amouage an extraordinary scent to the fact that sometimes I dislike it but other times can’t get enough of it weird !!quite lavender heavy imo 👍
Yeah Sunshine man ticks all 3 boxes for me mate. Layton is a good shout, I haven't got it in my collection yet but I have smelled it in stores and I agree its a very good starter niche. Thanks for the suggestions mate :)
Oligarch has been the best frag that I own in all weathers and makes me feel like a confidant gentleman. I get the lavender and berries the most and is just the most stunning fragrance I own thanks to you buddy so thank you for recommending it.
Hahah Amit, thank you once again, I am humbled. The one I highly recommend you tey is Galloway, absolute block buster mate :)... I have reviewed it , so do check it out. Happy belated Holi my friend :)
@@ACSmellsGood thank you so much for the Holi wishes AC. I wish you the same for you and your family, May the colors of Holi bring more colors of Joy and Happiness in your lives.
Fantastic video mate. I've been looking into getting into some niche this year but wasn't sure where to start. So far I've only had a few samples and still not sure. Looking forward to part 2 of this series.
@@ACSmellsGood So far I've tried Byredo Bal D'Afrique which is nice, a few Jo Malones which I didn't like, a few Creeds including Aventus & Viking. Aventus is great but isn't worth the price in my opinion. Viking I really don't like much and can't understand the hype around it. I just think Creeds are overpriced, at least here in Aus. Keen to get my nose onto some Manceras. I hear they are affordable and have great performance. And Ive tried a lot of the Acqua Di Parma's too which are very good mostly. Have not tried the one you mentioned in this video though.
I would add *Reflection Man*-bright and familiar citrus open, but with a floral heart and sweet woody dry down that will turn heads for its uniqueness vs the typical designer. Many compare it to Le Male, and I would agree it takes the same kind of man to wear, however, it is clearly classier and of higher quality.
AC! What great advice to give a friend moving into niché. I believe you have been hitting the gym - looking svelte. You once described your fragrance quest as seeking to find "art in a bottle". That description crystallized my thoughts of my enjoyment of fragrances. My first steps into niché were into the Acqua di Parma line - Essenza to Intensa to Asoluta to the Blues then into the Essence line. Remain among my favorites. Parfums de Marly opened a door for me to quality ingredients, the opulence of fragrance you often describe. Then into the Amouage offerings and was truly delighted to find Jovoy fragrances. Looking forward to 2nd part and that part 3 of Opulent Fragrances. Believe those beautiful flowers are tulips that have further brightened my day. Many thanks my friend!
lamar, thanks for sharing your lovely story mate and i am glad you liked Jovoy fragrances, they have a special place in my heart mate. I agree on the AdP blue line, they are great starter niches. I am going to do the Part 3 of the most opulent fragrances soon but I have to acquire a few fragrances first so making some space in my cabinet by selling some first :).

Sample, sample, sample. I will only buy blind if it is from a house I know well and can get it at a discount. And even then I prefer to sample before purchasing, especially if I am a little unsure and it is a challenging scent. For example, cumin is a warning sign for me. Years ago I bought blind Al Oudh from L'artisan Parfumeur and came to regret it. The perfume was a cumin bomb that reeked of body odor. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough and ended up selling it at a loss. Lesson learned. I watched your review of L'Enfant Terrible from Jovoy and was intrigued, but the cumin note you described gave me pause. I love the house of Jovoy and currently own 9 of their perfumes. I could not find samples of L'Enfant Terrible and I was not unwilling to pay $180 (full retail) on a blind buy. I eventually found it discounted for $135 with free shipping so I went for it. My thought was at the discounted price I could try it and if I didn't like I could sell it and not lose any money. As it turns out I love L'Enfant Terrible. Fantastic fragrance.
I could not agree more, sample and never blind buy if you are a serious collector. Loved reading about your expereince and loved the fact you like L Enfant, its one of my absolute favorites :)
I always recommend Acqua di Parma to beginners. Primarily the colonia (not brown bottles like you mentioned) and blu mediterraneo line. That was my first niche brand and it served me well. Beyond that I would recommend Reflection Man, and then the Atelier Citruses. Last of all, if someone is easy to please, I would suggest some Byredo (which you mentioned) fragrances like Mojave Ghost or Gypsy Water! But its a slippery sloap down into the rabbit hole lol! Another smashing video AC, I typed most of that early in the video then added the (...) after you mentioned. We seem to agree! But I wouldn't recommend Kilians too risky lol you are very confident in Intoxicated! Its been on my list for a long while but still have not smelled it!
I agree Kyle, AdPs are great first recommendations but I do not think the Colonia and the Blue lines to be Niche but I will go with the flow who am I to argue against eh :). Intoxicated is a block buster fragrance mate, for a newbie it would be a smash hit when the ladies start to swoon over him for sure mate :)). Give me some more ideas , I avoid the Ateliers because of their poor performance mate.

Thanks for the review. Great picks of beginners well done. I remember my first fragrance i brought was a designer in those days and still is, it was xeryus Rouge by givenchy. love it and still do but when I got into niche i will never go back it's quality it's different then designer cost more but worth all the money in my opinion. Very nice flowers are they daffodils?👍
Easy for those who live in London and New York, go to fancy stores that sell parfumes and try. For those who are not, watch your youtube channel and buy samples.
SG, Hello my friend! Very nice beginners list for those looking to upgrade or include niche frags in their collection. I have 4 of the 10 listed.😊! I also have 1 or 2 arabian aoud frags(kalemat black/Mukhallet Aslate Alsharq)in my arsenal and may have to check out the one listed in this video. Thanks for sharinng. Really enjoying ur channel. A2! P. S. HOW ARE YOU ENJOYING DIORS VETIVER?
i am loving Dior Vetiver, a full review will be up in Spring for sure :), thanks for the recommendation. I have discovered another superb Vetiver scent called Sultan vetiver by Nishane, have reviewed it so check it out if you haven't already. I am glad you have 4/10 I listed. Kalemat Black is a very good starter niche i would say. Kashmir is awesome mate :)
Hello my friend, thanks and my suggestion on MFK would be Masculin Pluriel and APOM. Grand Soir is also a good one but could be a bit full on for a beginner.
Maison Francis kirkdjian one of the best mainstream and likeable niche houses for beginners and the price in Europe is very affordable along with pdm but that's a little bit higher in price
@@ACSmellsGood for me baccarat rouge 540 (extrait), oud extrait and grand soir but for a beginner if it has 2 be sweet i would say amyris homme or baccarat rouge 540 edp and for a freshie aqua universalis or aqua celestia forte also petit matin is a good one for beginners Blessings from Amsterdam 🙏🏾
Thank you my friend, I have to try the ones you mention, as I haven't smelled any of the ones you mention apart from Amyris, which I did not like at all. Amyris smelles like old fashioned carbolic soap have been used to wash Laundry sheets and then steam ironed and kept in a cupboard lolz. I really didnt like it. The two that I like from MFK are Masculine Pluriel and APOM which I own a full bottle of.
Hello AC, My first "niche" frag was Armani Privé Ambré Eccentrico. Have you ever tried it? If yes, what did you think? I find the Plum (also dried fruit and Cardamom) against the Cinnamon and amber to be killer. I've never got a compliment per se but a few "it's interesting". I'm definitely interested in more wearable niche or high quality designer. My next will be Tobacco Vanille, Armani Privé Rose D'arabie and either Intoxicated or Back to Black by Kilian.
Great list, descriptions, and presentation as always. Can't believe someone didn't like Jubilation! (top 5 I've smelled) I have Dua's expression of Oligarch and am picking up a 2nd backup; regal version of "done over" Elysium to me - perhaps the shared blackcurrent, juniper notes give me a similar glassy, fresh gin and tonic vibe; as your review noted, Oligarch's dry-down is spectacular. I normally recommend T. Ford Plum Japonaise but it is similar to Jubilation. Also like Histoire De Parfums 1725 Casanova and / or MDCI Invasion Barbare for that classic feel. I now recommend Houbigant's Bois Mystique, which should be the next frag-com hype train masculine woody scent. Sebastian at smelling great has already reviewed - everyone else is late or the performance isn't as good as I got off my sample. What a note pyramid. Come-on discounters! aside nice recommendation on Aramis Havana - I do have and like. And I hide my Intoxicated expression so I don't overuse.
Thanks Michael. I am the same as you on jubilation but if you think about it from a perspective of a newbie who is making a jump from pleasant designers to it they might get a bit taken aback by it. Thanks for all the recommendations and I hope to smell Bois Mystique soon, as i hear it was released this year.
Subscribe to Smells Good fragcom! Was remiss in not acknowledging your reply and agreeing completely regarding the initial effect of Jubilation XXV / middle-eastern style scents with any oud / heavy incense on the here-to-for D&G Light Blue, Acqua Di Gio appreciating nose. I can remember smelling an expression of Xerjoff Alexandria II (my 1st mild oud) and thinking, "huh?" Now am considering more than a sample of Interlude.
To me a niche fragrance should offer something unique with an order of complexity that cannot be found in a designer fragrance. It should also offer much better longevity, and perhaps better sillage. I wear fragrances mostly to please myself and not necessarily to impress others. Compliments are nice but not required.
*Great list! I'm happy you included ADP Quercia. I LOVE IT. It's a must in every collection. I don't have a full bottle but a big decant. I've bought it because I wanted to review it after smelling it for the first time in our local perfume shop but I totally forgot. I love the geranium with cardamom :)*
Thank you Agnes, I adore Quercia as well. I do not get any Cardamom in Quercia for some reason :(. Would be real nice to see your take on it. By the way if you had to recommend a few niche fragrances to a complete newbie, which ones would you recommend ?

Aqua di Parma and Amouage, Jubilation - never!!! Byredo, Oud Immortel and Bal d'Afrique, YES. I like Diptyque. Amouage - Epic, Interlude and Opus XI 😍😍😍😍😍 Tom Ford, Oud Wood Intense, my favourite. But one of the best is Jeroboam 💖 Miksado 💖
Anton, thank you for stopping by and the tip on Miksado, I have never smelled it. My top favorites from Tom Ford are Tobacco Oud and Vert d' encens, have you tried them ?
I would tell him stick to designer niche fragrances... I stopped my niche journey bc I like to smell good not worse. But these are the scents I go for now
Smells Good Lol.yeah and no just the niche I've tried didn't blow me away like a good quality designer considering the price too. Designer private lines are where it's at... !! Just even more expensive. Don't get me wrong creed , mfk, pdm are my jams. Finding a really good niche with mass appeal is a needle in the haystack in my experience
Great video as always. I bought the 125ml Gris Dior, but now I think its a bit too feminine for me. I would've rather bought Colonia Quercia - it's the perfume that led me to your channel btw (I bought the Dior from the airport, so it cost the same as Quercia). Long story short, I bought it cause I was dead set on buying a niche perfume from the airport and couldn't find any of the others that I wanted although I checked the website to make sure that they would be there. Idk what to do with the bottle now. Have you ever had to sell your perfumes? How do you go about it?
Youssef, I am glad you found me mate and you have asked a great question. Before i answer it I wish this video gives you some ideas on what can be a few good choices. I have learnt 2 hard lessons, one, there will be some fragrances that I will not like and hence I will have to sell. NO 2, if you have a Niche do not sell the full bottle. I know it sounds a bit difficult but creating a decant and selling 5 or 10 ml decant on ebay will double or even triple your money plus fund your next purchase. All you need is a few 5 / 10 ml decant plastic or glass bottles, plastic tiny funnels and a labeling gun. Amazon to the rescue. Don't fill the decants, just create one decant and create a listing for whatever price you think you are ready to sell for, and wallah! Initially its a chore, then its fun way to get your money back and more :).
@@ACSmellsGood Great! Thanks a ton for the advice. I haven't recommend any niche fragrances because I haven't tried enough and don't own any (except for Gris Dior) btw. Although, in my opinion Feve Deliciuesse is by far one of the best smelling perfumes, so I'd urge people to try that. Sadly, it smelled like play dough on my skin. First time I've had a fragrance truly smell different on the skin when compared to paper. I didn't really believe that before this happened.
Feve Deliciuesse is also one of my favorites. I plan to review it soon. I am sorry to hear that it doesn't work on your skin Chemistry my friend , but never mind there are plenty of fragrances to try.
Hi Roshan, I would say Rasasi Oud al Borruz Indonesia, Acqua Di Parma Colonia Quercia and Sandalo, Parfums De Marley Galloway and Arabian Oud Kashmir. They will suit the high heat that you live in :)
ok, then Quercia, Galloway, MFK Amyris, Tom Ford Vert d Encens, and, if you are willing to shell out a bit more then Roja Oligarch should be great options to sample.
I dont get ur reasoning for excluding Aventus. Dont you have a video in which you mention CDNIM as a compliment god? But you exclude the fragrance from which it is inspired? Wouldnt Aventus get compliments if CDNIM does?
@@ACSmellsGood Thanks for ur reply sir. Much appreciated. However, for me it still doesn't make sense that "there are more fragrances than Avantus" while Aventus is the scent which allowed CDNIM being made. The first niche scent I would recommend to a new niche explorer would be Aventus, TM private blend and some Amouages. Maybe we differ in opinion and that is perfectly fine. Have a nice evening sir.
@@mrlawman136 yes we differ. I would never recommend Aventus to a beginner or to anyone else. Its expensive doesn't last a lot and for that money there are many other great fragrances. In fact thats why I created this list.
I agree Intoxicated by Killian could very well be called *Panties Remover* It is the perfume I picture Barack Obama rocking if he was a player. Intoxicated it is the most addicctive fragrance ever!
I would recommend certain designer Fragrances before venturing into the niche territory... Fahrenheit, Bentley Intense, Encre Noire and Issey Miyake Noire Ambre

I can remember smelling an expression of Xerjoff Alexandria II (my 1st mild oud) and thinking, "huh?" Now am considering more than a sample of Interlude.
true real experience extremly sensual as hell frag list niche edition pls
tks AC
Hi John, great to see you after a long time mate, where have you been ?
I will see what I can do mate.
I am glad you liked the list.
To me a niche fragrance should offer something unique with an order of complexity that cannot be found in a designer fragrance. It should also offer much better longevity, and perhaps better sillage. I wear fragrances mostly to please myself and not necessarily to impress others. Compliments are nice but not required.
Have you done all Amouages yet? If not when.... Especially for hot climes.
Lalique White is the designer counterpart of Galloway
No unfortunately it isn't , I have tried both. The upvotes on fragrantica are misleading!
Oh I see
*Great list!

I would recommend Interlude, Dzing! and Bois Bleu. @@ACSmellsGood
Thank you Agnes, do you mean Bois Bleu by Robert Piguet?
Yes. I have reviewed it. :)@@ACSmellsGood
Well said Sir, well said!!!
Thank you George , most appreciate the kind words :).

@@ACSmellsGood, Vert d'Encens ? Never heard of it. Tobacco Oud is good. But I do prefer Indonesian Oud by Zegna 😍 I am in love with his Oud.
@@anton1971 I have reviewed Vert d Encens, check it out, its one of the best from the house. If you sample it, you will know :)
If you don't mind, could you list your fragrances?
Sure, they were,
I will update the description of the video shortly.

Bro pls do a review on dur al maknoon silver absolutely a gem.clone of creed aventus
Yes, I have heard about it a lot but I cant get it in the UK unfortunately.
The cheapest clone of Aventus! A gem nonetheless..
Mind-blowing at that price.
I would tell him stick to designer niche fragrances... I stopped my niche journey bc I like to smell good not worse. But these are the scents I go for now
Hahaha, i like your comment, looks like you have been burned by some niche frags mate :).
Smells Good
Lol.yeah and no just the niche I've tried didn't blow me away like a good quality designer considering the price too. Designer private lines are where it's at... !! Just even more expensive. Don't get me wrong creed , mfk, pdm are my jams. Finding a really good niche with mass appeal is a needle in the haystack in my experience
I agree Mark, finding a niche with mass appeal is difficult :)
Bro which perfume has top notch silage and longevity.i am residing in Middle East.pls suggest at least 5-6
Hi Roshan, I would say Rasasi Oud al Borruz Indonesia, Acqua Di Parma Colonia Quercia and Sandalo, Parfums De Marley Galloway and Arabian Oud Kashmir. They will suit the high heat that you live in :)
But I don’t like oriental perfumes.suggest something French base
Should hv good projection also
ok, then Quercia, Galloway, MFK Amyris, Tom Ford Vert d Encens, and, if you are willing to shell out a bit more then Roja Oligarch should be great options to sample.
Very good topic! Very good advice. I think I would have done the same thing. Btw, what is your first name please? :)
Reasons why I buy niche
1) Quality
2) Uniqueness
3) Complexity
Yes, I hear you :)
How about Amouage Interlude ?
Interlude maybe a bit too much for a complete beginner just like Jubilation 25 IMHO.
✋🏾 hi ac !
Hi Yusuf :).
I dont get ur reasoning for excluding Aventus. Dont you have a video in which you mention CDNIM as a compliment god? But you exclude the fragrance from which it is inspired? Wouldnt Aventus get compliments if CDNIM does?
I chose 10 others..There are many move fragrances than just Aventus.
