Sephiroth in this Remake series reminds me of Sauron, a character who sees an inherent flaw with the planet he inhabits and wants to correct it based on his decisions alone, to make a more perfect flawless world. To do that, he rationalizes his goal by wanting to destroy the planet and restarting it according to his design, and there's no half measures with him. It is a psychopathic mentality and he sees nothing morally reprehensible about it. No amount of convincing will change his mind. "He doesn't care about about the people who stand in his way,"-- Cloud. "Sounds like a real nutter,"-- Cait Sith. Too true. So the idea that this "redeems" Sephiroth is invalid, and the concern that this redeems Sephiroth is also, invalid, and those who want Sephiroth redeemed do not understand his broken mentality, nor understand that the ends do not justify the means. Sephiroth is beyond redemption because he doesn't see anything wrong with what he is doing. He is cruel, manipulative, destructive, dangerous, and resolute.
Exactly. My hope is that Sephiroth, who remained somewhat of a closed book and mysterious about his ultimate plans throughout the two games of the Remake series, will be explored in more detail and with greater clarity in the third game.
