What I love about this, is it's an abuse of phase change of water to ice. You can have a bottle of water in the freezer all day. You gently pull it out and it's super-cooled. Once you disturb it significantly, the super-cooled water will almost instantly change to ice as it's below freezer and still a liquid. This is so cool to see in a vending machine.
@@user-wq9mw2xz3j I'm writing this from memory, so it might not be exact, ice crystals form by having h2o molecules arrange in a hexagonal pattern, when you cool water, you're taking energy away from it, so if kept absolutely still, the molecules don't have the kinetic energy to align and thus form the crystals, and so it stays liquid. But if you agitate the water, you put in some kinetic energy and the crystal forms, you can literally see the water freeze from one end of the container to the other if done right.

A "Shock" (striking the bottom of the bottle on the counter or a hard smack with your palm on the side of it) will caused it to instantly "freeze" (ie turn into that slushy texture). It's really neat though and I suggest looking up vids on how to do it (generally i think it needs to be chilled for an hour or 2 to get this effect)

You don't need to shake the drinks. The freezer they come from just keeps the drinks at below freezing point at atmospheric pressure, but the drinks do not freeze with thier lids on because their high pressure decreases their freezing point thereby preventing ice crystals forming. Once you undo the lid, the pressure inside the bottle drops to atmospheric pressure, and so the freezing temperature of the drink increases to a point above the temperature of the drink, and so ice crystals form. Just as a side note, because the ice crystals form very quickly and because of the high sugar content of the drink, the coke ice using this technique is super smooth and creamy. It is so good. But the trick is you have to take the lid off quickly so the drink can't warm up too much, other wise the temperature of the drink won't be below freezing point at atmospheric pressure, and so the drinks won't freeze. But you don't need to tip the drinks upside down or shake them or anything. That has nothing to do with the process.

Amazing! How the heck does this even work!? Do they put a small little bit of Liquid Nitrogen in the cap or do they just simply store the bottle at so cold a temperature that breaking their airtight seal is all it takes to make the drink inside go slushy?
I’ve done this trick before. It’s chilled right to the freezing point, meaning it’s "sub-cooled". Once it’s disturbed, it freezes. Obviously, being _right at_ the freezing point, it doesn’t stay frozen very long.
We used to have a soda slushy machine in Montclair State University. The sodas were kept in a refrigerator that puts them near freezing temperature. Then, we take a soda out and put them onto this machine-thing that I have no idea how or why it does what it does, but here’s what happened: We put the soda onto it, press a button, a white light was emitted, and the soda instantly becomes slushy. The whole thing, more than what was shown in this video. I don’t understand the science behind it, but it works. Too bad it only lasted a semester before they took it out.
Kind of unimpressed tbh. It's only 10% slush and the rest is just a cold drink. You can get even better from putting your drink in the freezer for 45 minutes.
@@fn_flashy9101 Not really. I'd rather have nothing than a cold drink with 10% slush. Like I said, you can get better by putting your drink in the freezer for 45 minutes. Literally anyone can do it.
@@fn_flashy9101 And we literally have slushie stations at every gas station. You can walk in and pour a pure slushie in less time than it takes for this to turn into a 10% slushie. This is a fail and there's a reason we don't have broke shit like this in the U.S
TheL4r5 - only if you leave the soda EXACTLY THE RIGHT TIME on the freezer. I've done slushes out of large 1.75L bottles of zero-sugar sodas (even fruit-flavored ones, like Pepsi's H-2-Oh), It'll only slush the top 1/3-1/2 of the bottle and you have to eat it before 2 minutes are out when it melts back...

So your saying any soda you can find if you open it, turn it upside down, and up again it will instantly start to slush
me 1st few sec in the video: looks like ordinary cola...clickbait?
me near half way on the video: What! I want this vending machine near me!
it's actually something you can do at home, the drink isn't the special part.
3:52 at this point, my cultured brain started seeing things
I’ve done this trick before. It’s chilled right to the freezing point, meaning it’s "sub-cooled". Once it’s disturbed, it freezes. Obviously, being _right at_ the freezing point, it doesn’t stay frozen very long.
people in japan are living the best life
Wait... That vending machine... You have to pick up a card from it, then pay at counter and come back to get a bottle of coke?
What?
i think is to skip the step of taking change from the machine and so the soda won't get heated up
This machine in America would make alot of money

simonroe Amarica?
Qwest One you're telling me it would get vandalized at a populated mall? unless you're in a shit city than no it'll be just fine.
Wonder what extra chemicals you're drinking.
Movie Games it's just normal coke, no extra chemicals inside the bottle, it's probably the temperature inside the machine that does the magic
You can do this in your normal fridge or freezer. Just have to set the temperature right
I got a Diet Coke ad before the video played
We used to have a soda slushy machine in Montclair State University. The sodas were kept in a refrigerator that puts them near freezing temperature. Then, we take a soda out and put them onto this machine-thing that I have no idea how or why it does what it does, but here’s what happened:
We put the soda onto it, press a button, a white light was emitted, and the soda instantly becomes slushy. The whole thing, more than what was shown in this video. I don’t understand the science behind it, but it works. Too bad it only lasted a semester before they took it out.

Here in The Netherlands("EU") we have the same machines.
no
Man, combine that with some Whiskey and you got something there.

This is called flash freezing. You can try it at home also.
When you leave a soda in a freezer for a certain time this is the outcome. I unintentionally did this.
Favourite thing about Japan is seeing a vending machine at every corner.

Kind of unimpressed tbh. It's only 10% slush and the rest is just a cold drink. You can get even better from putting your drink in the freezer for 45 minutes.
Yea shut up
It’s better than what we have in the states 😭
@@fn_flashy9101 Not really. I'd rather have nothing than a cold drink with 10% slush. Like I said, you can get better by putting your drink in the freezer for 45 minutes. Literally anyone can do it.
Zach Whitaker I guess
@@fn_flashy9101 And we literally have slushie stations at every gas station. You can walk in and pour a pure slushie in less time than it takes for this to turn into a 10% slushie. This is a fail and there's a reason we don't have broke shit like this in the U.S
That’s crazy, I wish we had high tech vending machines in Canada like this and the other vids.

Shake your coke before putting inside the freezer.
and then ?
@Minecraft but it is like this one after the freezer? xD
TheL4r5 - only if you leave the soda EXACTLY THE RIGHT TIME on the freezer. I've done slushes out of large 1.75L bottles of zero-sugar sodas (even fruit-flavored ones, like Pepsi's H-2-Oh),
It'll only slush the top 1/3-1/2 of the bottle and you have to eat it before 2 minutes are out when it melts back...
Where does that glass come from wtf
😳
He carries it everywhere he goes. He needs a glass for a slushy coke? Emergency glass. He's thirsty and wants to drink some rain water? Emergency glass. He needs to pee and there's no WC around? Emergency glass. The last one can also solve no. 2 if there is no rain forecast that day.

its called water bending... its at a specific temp that makes it transform when shifting molecules when flipping upside down... happens with beer sometimes .
Now we all know we could never have this treat in the U.S the homeless or just anyone would come along and take all the cards 💳 and try selling them
