This happened to me also. I woke up with the lyrics coming back to me from years ago, i am now 80 years young. The next day as I was surfing "You Tube" there it was. I played the video and sang along. Thank God for the Blood and annointed timeless songs that are inspired by the Holy Spirit.

I haven't read all the comments but do people know the story Of this William Cowper song? Cowper was John Newtons partner in writing Olney Hymns when both were living in the village where Newton was curate. I find the story to distressing to complete just now and it was an experience i have shared with Cowper and so has a special Meaning to me. Also i sang this to those who had remained after evening prayers on the day a young man well loved by all of us passed away when his heart transplant miscarried. It is only in the last few i understood why i sang. I usually only sing the first, second and 4th verses just as selected in this track. they have put variations but i like them I prefer "there have I" in the second verse as the origianl

I haven't read all the comments but do people know the story Of this William Cowper song? Cowper was John Newtons partner in writing Olney Hymns when both were living in the village where Newton was curate. I find the story to distressing to complete just now and it was an experience i have shared with Cowper and so has a special Meaning to me. Also i sang this to those who had remained after evening prayers on the day a young man well loved by all of us passed away when his heart transplant miscarried. It is only in the last few i understood why i sang. I usually only sing the first, second and 4th verses just as selected in this track. they have put variations but i like them I prefer "there have I" in the second verse as the origianl

This song was written by William Cowper. He was lost his mom at 6 and was sent to a boarding school, but being bullied. He tried commit suicide twice and sent to private lunatic asylum and met Dr. Cotton. Dr. Cotton is a Christian and share gospel to Cowper until one day he repent and wrote his hymn.

To the one that says he is a sinner...no sir now you are the righteousness of God thru Christ. 2Corinthians 5:21...yes you still sin but hallalujah God made a way for you to not be bound in that sin..the more you believe He took your sin the less you will sin! Lose that mindset that says you are just an old sinner saved by grace...you can do all things thru Christ!
