    Just so you guys know my price points for the food is off. I think I up-charged everything by 10 euros in my post production! The food from the restaurant was around €15-€28 for 2.

  • @305jakec
    @305jakec 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Raven ; the Cuban people live basically to survive , most of them make less than $40 dollars a month so give them a pass if they try to charge a bit more , you don’t know what they have to go through to put food on their tables !!

      They can scare off tourist with the annoying scams as well! Noone wants to go on a vacation & be scammed the entire time its annoying.

      Exactly, If I ever visit, I definitely plan to tip everyone well. It's a rough situation and we're very fortunate not to be in.

    • @RavenNavera
      @RavenNavera  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      of course you can tip, but no one wants to be scammed. Not all tourists have 100s to spend on trips. And you CANNOT tell a tourist 300 and then it becomes 4000!! That is a SCAM and it's also done in London just the same £20 becomes £200. Im not doing it no matter what country. I rather you just be honest and tell people the price that works for you.

    Hey Raven, really enjoyed your video on Cuba. I have been there 16+ times. The thing is the best option is to stay at an all inclusive, be careful as to where you stay as they vary big time! I have gone from Varadero to Trinidad and at most spent $100 Canadian for the entire excursion plus a meal, when you stay at casa particulars and go on your own you will spend much more. I would go to Havana for the day with a meal and a tour guide for less than $100 Canadian, the big bucks come into play when you start taking cabs. Never take cabs in Cuba.
    Thanks Again.

    In Havana and Veradero (hell all of the locations you went to) you have to be very careful because once they know you are tourist they will add at least 300 percent to the whatever the actual total is. They tried to do that to me when I just moved there but when I started bargaining with them, the realized what was happening and then they charged me the regular price (that they would charge locals)

    Hello Raven. Oh it's the scenery for me. Gorgeous. Thank u for the video. Travel safe.

  • @baybeetricia
    @baybeetricia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    the Bici taxi (that's what they call the bicycle), you can actually bargain and then get out. if they see you getting out and someone else is around, they will decrease the total. 18 pounds is alot (even at that time). My school was in Havana but in the outskirts it was like 30-45 minutes by regular taxi (maquina) and it cost $3 USD. I paid $10 to get to the airport.

    • @RavenNavera
      @RavenNavera  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are also a local.

    • @baybeetricia
      @baybeetricia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RavenNavera Those are not prices specific to locals that I mentioned. Local prices are those that require carnet (ID) and they are only stipulated in places like museums, national attractions, and things of that nature. What I mentioned are prices that anyone, especially tourists, can get. Since I was student, and they assumed that I had money, they would always try and increase the price. My school was an international school and, as a result of that, there was always the assumption that everyone there was rich (when that was far from the truth especially cause I was there on a scholarship). 🤷🏾‍♀️

    Omg the first restaurant I’ve been to. When I went to Cuba a couple years ago I too was out with my cousin and we got persuaded to come to try some authentic food. It was delicious but we got there and realized all the people up there were tourists and the food was pricey. It was worth it but I would say to people just be careful

      The taxi drivers will help you! 1 euro will give you anywhere from 90-110 pesos. Bring at least €2000 with you. Change little at a time.

      It was the end of the corona! Cuba just opened up of course everything is going to be more expensive. The people are suffering under the regime. things are expensive, I’m not going to barter for things that are already cheaper than what I would normally pay. I did not get swindled for meals, the restaurant prices are on the menu, they aren’t just making up prices out of the blue.

    • @moniques199
      @moniques199 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RavenNavera that's is completely understandable. I am speaking from my experience from 2017. Even with Corona it still seemed a bit steep but it happens. The prices are printed on the menu but from my experience drivers and some locals will take you to restaurants that are geared towards tourists so it will be a much higher price.

      @@moniques199 I have heard that Cuba is beautiful but that the salaries are low, I am not sure if they are mandated or something.
