I groomed a goldendoodle today..for the first time. I've never even groomed a big dog before! I've only groomed my bison/shizu, and mini labradoodle. Took 3 hrs from bath to finish. Made $100. I'm looking into different course options. Thanks for the info. 😊

Personal experience - ground yourself before approaching the dog. Keeping a low level of energy in your own demeanor makes a huge difference for anxious pups that will get worse with hyperactive energy. Even tone of voice, do your best to keep either a flat or comforting tone of voice and facial expression. And most importantly of all - remember what it feels like to be terrified in a new space, and factor in the inability to communicate clearly with those around you. I’ve found when I take all of these things into consideration MOST dogs that are normally anxious will allow me to work by finding their challenge line of what they won’t tolerate, and staying either right up on that edge or starting away from the challenge line and working towards it. Example - a dog I dry is extremely anxious and tries to bite at the hose when I have it at the lowest setting and aimed at their ear/cheek. I keep it at the low setting and change gears to drying the hips and keep praising the animal for exhibiting calm behavior. Sometimes I’ll get lucky and the dog will let me dry their face after I’ve proven that I’m not going to hurt them when drying their rear. Sometimes they still won’t let me dry their face, but will let me get the rest of their body dry so that a fan can be placed in front of their kennel instead. Your body language is part of a conversation you’re having with the dog, use it to help you work WITH the dog rather than AGAINST them.
