Having worked in road doing across and up Australia, rail (National Rail and Pacific National) doing east/west and air transport with cargo only aircraft there is no winner. It’s simply what’s best suited to the user and the area. FT are great for bulk cheap transport if you are happy to wait. RT are a middle ground. AF is the bees knees when it comes to speed but it’s a cost that most can’t and won’t pay for bulk. Getting 30,000lb of cargo across Australia or internationally in a day comes with an astronomical cost, but for rescue or humanitarian relief work when the government foots the bill it can’t be beat. What do the say you can pick 2 out of 3 option. Price Speed Flexibility.
Trains in Australia 🇦🇺 are a lot quieter than they used to be. They used to travel at 120kph (75mph) but I'm not sure if they still do. Trains are better between cities but in less populated areas are best served with road trains especially in areas where you can have 4 carriages.
Rail is cheaper than road but takes longer to get stuff delivered. I load rail wagons and it can take I few hours to load and unload and then deliver to a customer. But road can deliver directly to a customer. One advantage is FCL (full container load) which can be delivered directly to a customer once it is taken off a train soo rail still needs road as well.
I Like Trains since then tracks because more locomotives to get more cars to get and plus trains can be on time or delayed doesn't matter they still keep their on schedule and plus trains can have more than one locomotive
I remember the idea I had in the past was that road trains could be made to work on rails as well, they could even link up to share pulling power of other road trains. Once they get to the area they pull up rail wheels and drive to their destination. If they were to use any rails it would probably be tram rails that are built into roads.
Ha Ha I know the rail is effective on long haul or heavy loads but the railway built there own infrastructure and maintains it. Trucks on the other hand pay nothing for the roads they use or even pay for any new roads all provided by the various governments
No because road trains show very limited use in Australia and long and flat roads in the u.s. because of safety concerns with other traffic. Freight trains can are literally everywhere so you will rarely see road trains because of their limited use. Most of the clips he shows are from the outback in Australia
