$22 is DEFINITELY a good steal. I've been searching for one of these cakes, but the cheapest vintage heart cake I can find near me is like $50 for a really small one. I could probably see if a grocery store would decorate one, but they're not advertised so I'm never certain if they'd be up for it
At the grocery store I work at we are required to take orders like these so I would check Albertsons or Tom Thumb (or Safeway) if you have that in your area. They might be able to help you. From what I’ve heard from customers, Walmart and Sam’s have severely limited their custom order options so I wouldn’t bet on them.
Like everyone else said, it all depends on who you talk to. Some decorators are confident enough to do it, others don't think thwy can so they say no. Just gotta find the right decorator!

i was wondering if maybe the person who picked it up got an employee discount (since she said it was ordered by another lady at the store, i assumed she meant co-worker, maybe a cashier.) i THINK she works at Winn Dixie or Publix?? Idk if they offer employee discounts.
Honestly, it is so intricately detailed, I cannot believe it was only $22. Someone could literally take and sell that cake for $125. People are always “redecorate or add touch’s” to store cakes. You’re such an amazing cake artist, you’re going places!!!😊❤
The absolute minimum for that cake just for a loved one or maybe a coworker should be, in my opinion, $30 minimum. But for everyone else, it should be $50 at the very least. And that's in the rural towns around me in south texas! I'm sure in Houston/Dallas/Austin, the cheapest you'd find for this cake would be $75, and in other states, probably at least $90! It's so beautiful and intricate! You did a phenomenal job!

That price exists bc your skill level and time mean nothing to them labor wise. You should be getting paid more and the custom cake should cost more. As a private chef I would never charge that little bc the prices to make the cake would be about that price
That’s not enough money for that level of work, time and skill. If it’s for a co-worker, that’s very different (and it’s very nice of you!). But definitely not if selling to the public. If you end up with clientele expecting that level of work for such a little amount you will price yourself out of your business and job. Because it’s BEAUTIFUL work!
That $22 is unheard of in Tampa. They go for $30 - $60 starting price. That was some nice instructions they gave you, it's beautiful and you did a great job! I love just the one word, too, to top it off. Haha. 😊
That's so good of you to only charge 20 bucks. On Etsy anytime somebody adds the word wedding they tack on another $300 to the price. Wedding candle. $500 😂
This is a $100 cake EASY! The time and intricate detail. There are ppl who will honor, respect and will pay for such quality. I definitely would because I understand the process. Beautiful cake!❤❤❤

I've had really good luck with custom cakes from grocery store bakeries! Especially now that we got a HyVee in my town. Crazy good decorators.
