What a fantastic opening speech Olly, it was an absolute credit to you, well done mate. no one can say that you didn't give that speech from the bottom of your heart, it was straight to the point and was just perfect to sum up what all those farmers were thinking.
A huge thank you and well done to the 5 off you who got this organised and to everyone who helped, absolutely amazing, and also a huge thank you to all the wife's and partners who supported you guys on this.
Also well done to all who attended for keeping it peaceful, respectful, and for ensuring that the area was left cleaner at the end than you got it at the start.
Well done and congratulations to everyone. I fear this is only the beginning of a very long fight to beat this lot of dictators.
Keep up the great work, Thank you

This is one of the finest speeches I've heard in a very long time. Moving, passionate, and to the point. For a farmer from Liverpool, you speak what the farming community needs to be said in a way no one can misunderstand. I stand behind and support every farmer in the fight to get this extortionate tax revoked. 💯

I thought it should be mentioned that there was a farmer rally yesterday in Holsworthy Market Devon which I attended, overwhelming attendance. The feeling is strong throughout the farming industry, government must rethink and amend the budget decisions.

Olly a HUGE thank you too Martin, Andrew, yourself and everyone behind the scenes in getting this rally sorted
Huge respect, not only in the rapid way you pulled this together, but the way you encouraged the crowds to be respectful in this dia time
What an amazing rally with no negative press
Show farmers in a positive light
Take nothing but photographs leave nothing but footprints, was alway associated with the countryside, you certainly bought the countryside to the city
I just hope this works, for ALL UK farmer's
It's frightening how far removed from industry this government appears to be
How can they still be in power after they totally miss sold their manifesto, if farmer's misrepresented their products the consumer would have the full weight of the law on their side
Well done on your heartfelt speech
    Take care
    Geoff

Olly, thanks for putting this up as at the time the stream I was watching got stopped. Now that I know what you said completely, How can any right thinking person disagree with you eloquent speech????? There is nothing else to add to your speech but to say: I fully support you and everything you stand for, and I say to you as a well wisher, now the first part of this campaign has begun, PLEASE, FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, GET SOMEONE ELSE TO CARRY ON THE FRONT LINE BUSINESS. You have been under a lot of stress for the last few weeks and it it YOUR TIME TO PASS TO OTHERS, THE STRESS YOU HAVE FELT!!!!. We need you to be you, not just a figurehead, but you Olly Bloggs!!
Just tell whoever, you need to take a step back and rest, (as if you would). You're a Farmer, we want you to remain farming and enjoy what you do. Don't let yourself be railroaded into something you are not prepared to do. Very best wishes as always, If I should ever get the opportunity to shake you by the hand, I would be the proudest man. Thanks for all you have done and hope you get some respite from "the press". Look forward to going back to normal?

Congratulations to you and the team on organising this Olly. A mass attended, peaceful and positive event to highlight what the family farmers are now being challenged with. There seems to be so much dis information about which is being spread by those who don't know the facts but just repeating what been said by someone else. Personally I've ended up putting one of my relatives right and its typical of the press that the real good hasn't been covered much (e.g. the food bank donations). I helped on a local farm from a young age, then through the Youth Training Scheme after leaving school an onto Ag college etc. I may no longer work in farming, but I will always support it - it's in my blood! Please make sure you get some time to relax after all of this.

Formal compliance with the law is a relative value while the absolute value of the law resides in a few simple principles of justice. When the law contradicts these principles it is the moral duty of each of us to do all we can to reform it.

Two Tier kier fully understands as he stated yesterday from South America that his first job was on a farm. Which farmer employed him just to prove that he's not embellishing his CV? We do know that his father was a Toolmaker.
Speaking of embellishing CV's, I see there has now been a specific set of questions asked by an MP on House of Commons notepaper requesting Racheal Reeves to answer to the house regarding her previous employers and job positions held as her CV LinkedIn appears to be somewhat exaggerated. If she has lied then she is gone.

Hi - like many I was there yesterday. Despite the slightly delayed start the whole event went well and as promised the venue was left tidier than when we arrived. My main concern with the arguments the farming community are putting forward is a lack of hard facts to prove the Treasury are wrong. As I see it the Treasury say it will affect c500 farms per annum based on evidence that 462 farms would have paid IHT in 2021/22. The CLA said 70,000 farms was a closer number but then said that's over time so therefore quite meaningless. A lot of people (farms) make statements that they would loose their farms or may not be able to pass them on. An emotional point which I fully get but they wouldn't necessarily loose the farm and they could pass it on BUT WITH CONSEQUENCES. Farming incomes and margins in many cases aren't enough to pay the IHT over 10 years. That may mean selling part, therefore less land, lower income, decrease in viability. Repeat the next time the land is passed on.
A further point that the focus is very much on IHT. Far more play has to be made on BPR as that also plays a significant part in the overall tax situation. Then add in fertilizer tax, SFI, double cabs point, environmental regs etc etc. It is the culminative impact.
I would have thought that between the NFU, CLA, a few of the key accountants and land agents (Savills, CERES etc) that a number of factual scenarios could be worked through. Say 20 in total ranging that a small hillside farm to a large agri business, factor in farmers ages, one or two parents etc etc. That will give the starting point on the financial impact. Someone then could predict the annual impact.
Finally far more emphasis is needed on the amounts expected to be raised versus Government spend. The Treasury predict the revenue raised would be £230m in 2024/25 raising to £500m in 2026 onwards. Starmer/Reeves say this is needed to help fund the NHS.
Lets put that into perspective. The annual NHS budget in 2024/25 is I believe £192Bn. That is £526m per day, £21.9m per hour.
The IHT raised (£230m) funds the NHS in 2026 for 10.5 hours and eventually the £500m funds it for 22.8 hours. Less than one day to cause turmoil for the farming sector.
Jeremy Clarkson was so right in his interview with Victoria Derbyshire. Government needs to start reducing the overheads. Any good leader such as James Dyson, Jim Ratcliffe, John Cauldwell and many more would be stripping out unnecessary costs, dramatically reducing the back office/admin, simplifying processes. I bet any good CEO would find at least 1% of waste in the first couple of weeks - that's £1.92Bn.
I enjoyed your opening speech and thanks again for your efforts.

When tourist think of the uk they might know City names but they invision a rural country town or village that has farmers that have those odd stories of multi generation farming the land that they have, of their struggles and can with time laugh at them or laugh that their great grandfather got through hard times with their sheer will. You built and grew your farm with your farther like he did with his, and now cause of the government has put uncertainty that you could share those moments with your own kids.
