Bill Hicks was a friend of the band. The song is about religious "cult" leaders like L. Ron Hubbard who mislead the mindless. The band has said so on several occasions. I really enjoy watching y’all enjoy something I loved from 20+ years ago. This music is as relevant today as it was back then. There is nothing new today that can even come close, nothing.
If you’re going through the catalog, here’s some info. Opiate - Tool’s first E.P. is raw and short. Its the only place you’ll find 3 minute songs. It’s experimental for its era, but incredibly aggressive and driving. Undertow - Tool’s first full length and well funded album. Still very aggressive and driving, but darker and more visceral. NOTE: At this point, the first bassist Paul D’Amour left to become a guitarist. Justin Chancellor took over and the band became much more experimental and cerebral. Ænima - Despite the change in line-up, Tool’s 2nd full album saw some of the most whimsical work. They were more comfortable as creators, and almost comical in their lyrics and topics. Lateralus - Tool’s 3rd full length showed some of their most experimental and break-out music. But, the rumor at the time was that Tool almost broke up before this album over contract negotiations. Some believe Schism was meant as a love letter to the band. This album shows a lot of emotion with its mind blowing creativity. 10,000 Days - This album feels like an emotional journey. The members know each other and their work, so thoughts and feelings have more room to be explored. There’s even room for comedy. (Rosetta Stoned). Fear Inoculum - Jury is still out. Tool albums take time to digest. I will say, Maynard has very accurately portrayed some of the turmoil and often contradictory perspectives and desires that occur as one ages. This is a very rough break-down. There is always more to be said. Just be prepared for Opiate. It’s damn near thrash. I love it, but it was the first thing I heard in as a kid back in ‘93. A lot of people who were exposed to Tool’s later work first have trouble appreciating it.
The jury has closed its case on Fear Inoculum for me long time ago - its amazing! 4 songs off it have moved high up in my top 20 all time fav tool songs.
Smokey Rameriz totally. Sober was my first tool song. Specifically the live performance vid where they’re in front of a large audience in the day time. Made me ask so many questions but also rock out good at the same time. Definitely a good first pick
Oh man everytime I hear that nasty guitar riff come in at the beginning I get chills. Well done guys but if you think you like this stuff start getting into the Undertow album Flood Intolerance Bottom Swamp Song etc. And as for Aenima try H.
AEnima is definitely one of my all time favorite albums. I still listen to it regularly. I saw them live way back in 1998. If you get a chance to see them live, do it. They put on an amazing show.
My favorite Tool song. I should say my favorite song of all time. This is one of the first songs I learned to play on guitar (when I played). It was ‘96 and the album had just come out. Spiral out.
I listen to a lot of music but Tool is simply a different level. Hard to find a true comparison group because most other forms of progressive music are very self indulgent. Tool’s music is exceptionally thought provoking with deep powerful message.

You guys made the latest "Best TOOL reactions" video! 👍 It's called a TOOLGASIM! The song is supposedly about L. Ron Hubbard leader of Scientology. Although some say Jesus as well. It's kinda one if those triple entendre things you said.
I have seen tool live four times since 2001. They played this the first time I saw them on the Lateralus tour and from what I understood it was rare for them to even play it on the Aenema tour. I have been so blessed to see them play some of their best songs live. To answer your question about the Nana nana nana sound, it's Maynard using a vocal effect.
The cool thing about the analogy you two used for your Tool journey, is that the journey is NEVER over. I've been a Tool fan for 20 years and these songs keep creating new meaning for me. Prepare to be on that road trip forever, haha. Great reaction as always, fellas. Peace from Down Under.

Those were the days, today. 😆 I enjoyed the beginning when you both pondered what the song might be about. That was real. A great, even older, song is Opiate, the title track off their EP ‘Opiate’. Great reaction, hope all is well. 🙃Peace
As I understand it, this song is about Andy Kaufman, the guy who played Twiggy on Taxi & Laverne and Shirley. He and Maynard were somehow good friends. The Man In the Moon with Jim Carrey is a great movie about Andy's life. He was VERY funny. He had a LOT of nothing to say, but he was SOOO funny. The very beginning is just Danny tapping on a glass ash tray, then it builds from that. That instrument is guitar, believe it or not. The capabilities of production and effects is amazing. Trash Talkers
one of my favorites, the album Aenima is one big eulogy to Bill Hicks, a comedian who was a friend and once he died tool worked on the album. (third eye has comedy bits in the songs intro

When I saw them in concert back in 97 I learned that he is singing into a bull horn to make that beeping sound in the intro. You can actually hear his voice under it. And just clicking the button in short bursts to make the beep.
The intro is played by Justin using a digitech bass whammy to make the pinging sound while Carey plays the percussion accompaniment with his drum pads.
Everyone has a different tool song that’s their favorite tool song , my guess you ask 10 Tool fans what’s their favorite tool track, you may get 10 different answers. Just do them all. My favorite is Disgustipated, just cuz , back in HS I think the year 94... I was tripping balls and that track scared the shit out of me as well as make me laugh uncontrollably at the same time... I classified it later as a bad trip ... But in all honesty if someone asked me Today my favorite track, my answer.. yes
Tool- Jimmy, Jambi, Wings for Marie and 10,000 days, Lateralus. I could go on forever! I saw them back in March and they played Tempest. Wow! what an experience.
I've already instructed my responsible niece to play this at my funeral. Then the Metamorphic String Quartet version is last just to trip everyone out more.
Haha loved your reaction when the song first drops! That noise in the beginning is the guitarist Adam picking the guitar right at the bottom (below the bridge) where the strings are fastened. That's how he can still bend the notes with his left hand. So glad you guys are pulling onto the Tool highway, it's a long but epic road ahead! I personally think the greatest understanding of the band comes from hearing the albums front to back. They're all centered around different themes and were recorded years, sometimes decades apart so they were made at very different periods in the band member's lives. A lot of the songs are meant to transition from one to the next, so there's definitely a vibe that builds up over the course of the whole album. Hearing just one song at a time from a Tool album is like taking a sip but not finishing the drink (if that makes sense).
You guys remind me of 1980. I used to listen to a show called "for headphones only" on Brown University radio. I'd put my beanbag chair in the living room floor, grab my bong, and enjoy the show. Tool would have fit right in.
That beep sound in the intro? That's the sound you get when you hold an old school IR remote to a guitars pickups and hold a button. You can control the pitch by holding it at different heights. Reeves Gabrels was experimenting with that around the same time also.
If you are serious about what you said. Going through the whole catalog, I believe I speak for most of us when I say that we will definitely be following you for the journey. Watching you two appreciate and hear the songs for the first time gives me just a hint of the thrill of when i did so myself. I'm hooked. I'm in. Let's do this. Start with opiate and work your way forward...in order...you can hear them grow and define themselves. See you on the other side.
When I was younger and we couldn’t look up lyrics and the Gulf War was a thing, I thought he said “Don’t go duck kin’ Sadaam!” Instead of “Get off your fucking cross”. At least I got one word right. Lol.
I was going to point out, they were speaking over perhaps the most important lyric in the whole song. Would've probably changed their synopsis quite a bit.
I think you pronounce it eye-nema. I love and ENVY watching your journey experiencing tools songs for the first time. I’d give anything to go back BUT as time goes on and I age/grow/change the songs do take on a whole different “meaning”(if you will). It’s relevance within my mind and life changes. Which I think that’s the definition of timeless music. Tool/apc/puscifer will always be #1 for me. Absolutely fu$!ing amazing.
I feel so lucky to have come into my own in terms of musical appreciation right as this band was on the radar! And I still don’t have it all figured out yet. Those of you discovering them now, I’m envious, you have a beautiful trip ahead of you! Congrats, your now at the tippy top of the heap!

I have been a fan since beginning and can't wait till that next album comes out. I'm a hardcore rocker chick and I so dig your reactions to TOOL I get so excited by your first time exp with each song I feel like I'm having the first exp with you again. Rock on!
Trash Talkers, TOOL ARMY loves you!!!! Adam, Justin, and THE GOAT appreciate the love! LONG LIVE TRACH TALKERS TRIBUTE TO TOOL TUESDAY 🤟🤟🤟🤟💪😎
Y'all are the best. I watch all your Tool react videos and i am always either laughing. smiling, or crying with you guys. I'm a pretty new Tool fan but there are really few bands who bring the kind of emotion to my heart that Tool does. You guys just get it. Not a lot of people can understand them, it definitely takes a certain ear to really appreciate their music. Thank you for bringing so much joy to my life. Y'all keep rocking and Spiral out!!!
Awesome indeed. Been in since 96. So glad you've arrived. Luv my new bros. Ì haven't even watched. Ty guys.
Holy shit! Y'all had a moment with this song.
It's really fun watching you two become enlisted in the Tool Army. Welcome to the squad.
For all the ladies who dance (belly dance, tribal fusion, etc) this song is one of the BEST, let alone an amazing song.
I am so glad to see Tool on your channel. Thank you 😊
We have dedicted one day a week strickly for them...TOOL TUESDAY. Stay tunes for much more
We all have been trolled, this is the best tool tuesday ever
If everyone would sit down no matter who they are this world would be a better place and you guys are right on every lyric every beat every rythm is all structured and intentional even the order of the songs
Laterallus has a specific order to play it though... It's the golden ratio in mathmatics I believe.
As a tool fan of over 20 yrs I get such joy watching people experience tool for the first time. Closest you can come to experiencing it for the first time yourself
Guys, If you listen to Lost keys and rosetta stoned together you will be literally abducted by aliens while listening to it... Promise. Love your reactions.
I have been lucky enough to see Tool live 3 times. I saw them once whilst on acid and I swear to the gods I thought I was going to ascend beyond all physical reality listening to Rosetta Stoned live.
They have
"The way they start there songs off, it sets the ambiance, it never just comes in like 'brbrbrbrbrbrtrttr'. not with Tool"
and then you listen to Jambi two months later :)
I really enjoy watching y’all enjoy something I loved from 20+ years ago. This music is as relevant today as it was back then. There is nothing new today that can even come close, nothing.
Thank you and great song choice.👍
I got into tool right after the release of 10, 000 days. Love Opiate. It’s a full on assault
I think it helps that we started off with Tool Sober as the first song being one of their early works
@@cammyscomet504 my experience also. Something about that video just turns one into a tool fan instantly
Man it’s so interesting going back to these early days and seeing how you guys have grown with this channel.
Great stuff! Your reactions are awesome
"It almost feels like we're going through a rite of passage"...because you are, my humble bros. Because you are. ❤
Maynard wants listeners to listen in full album order. It’s worth it
My favorite Tool song.
Tool’s music is exceptionally thought provoking with deep powerful message.
my favorite channel . I think the entire tool army will agree that JAMBI MUST BE YOUR NEST TOOL TUESDAY. so far we have not steered you guys wrong! get ready for tool in their prime
It's a lot of fun watching you guys take the journey.
You guys made the latest "Best TOOL reactions" video! 👍
It's called a TOOLGASIM!
The song is supposedly about L. Ron Hubbard leader of Scientology. Although some say Jesus as well. It's kinda one if those triple entendre things you said.
whaaaa good choice!
I legitimately love that I have basically slowly watched you guys become tool fans. It reminds me so much of how I got into it myself.
Hi from New zealand 🤪just got home from work sat down to rip a phat bong and seen this pop up so phat bong trash talkers and tool now that’s how u relax after work .😎thank u boys thank u very much love your channel
Hey remember that Tuesday a few hours ago this Tuesday when people felt slighted about dishonoring TOOL Tuesdays and then a little while later uploaded a reaction to Eulogy off of the Ænema album? Those were the days, today. 😆
I enjoyed the beginning when you both pondered what the song might be about. That was real.
A great, even older, song is Opiate, the title track off their EP ‘Opiate’.
Great reaction, hope all is well.
🙃Peace
Sounds good fellas. Bring on the catalog brothers. Can see how u appreciate greatness. TOOL!🤘🤘
Funniest part to me is the only thing I haven't seen on this channel is any trash talk, lmao! Love you guys, just subscribed.
This is probably my favourite tool song. And my god it's hard to pick a favourite but there's just something about this song.
Ikr there all so good. GOTTA LOVE TOOL TUESDAYS
@@Hollywood6IX certainly something to look forward to. And just you boys wait..... there's soooo many gems to discover in their discography. May I recommend you listen to parabol/parabola. You have to watch it with the music video too on the official TOOL youtube. It'll blow your minds. I guarantee it. Can't wait to see your reaction 😁
But in all honesty if someone asked me Today my favorite track, my answer.. yes
I feel the need to thank everyone who reacts to this absolute PERFECTION
Tool- Jimmy, Jambi, Wings for Marie and 10,000 days, Lateralus. I could go on forever! I saw them back in March and they played Tempest. Wow! what an experience.
Well done boys! Time for H.
Hey dude on the left dressed like a substitute teacher, put that headphone on. ;-)
ahahahaha bulls eye :D :D :D
I thought it was Bruno Mars. XD
Y’all some chillers for real🤣 love listening to tool with you guys.
It is such a kick watching new listeners discovering Tool!
YESSSSSS!!!!! Thank you for listening and doing eulogy
You couldnt be more right when you said listening to Tool is like a rite of passage. That means you get it where there's many others who never will.
We are all TOOLS! EVERYTHING IS A TOOL!
Yes we are my friend....yes we are
I've already instructed my responsible niece to play this at my funeral. Then the Metamorphic String Quartet version is last just to trip everyone out more.
Tool - H.W.A.P.
I was 10 foot away from this song , in a tiny old theatre, on the Aenima tour...before they were big time ,big...
Hey THANK YOU SO MUCH from the bottom of my heart that I found you and TOOL. You go through it so well and feeling it 100%.
You are. You are going through a rite of passage. And it is most enjoyable to watch you do it.
I love watching you guys get down on this, much love
"Get off your f'ing cross, We need the f'ing space to nail the next fool martyr!
Maynard's lyrics are genius I never get sick of hearing them. "Not all martyrs see divinity..."
It's "buddy", not "martyr".
@@JohnBham79 listen again
I think you pronounce it eye-nema. I love and ENVY watching your journey experiencing tools songs for the first time. I’d give anything to go back BUT as time goes on and I age/grow/change the songs do take on a whole different “meaning”(if you will). It’s relevance within my mind and life changes. Which I think that’s the definition of timeless music. Tool/apc/puscifer will always be #1 for me. Absolutely fu$!ing amazing.
welcome down the TOOL rabbit hole my friends the TOOL army is pleased enjoy the ride my friends....
One of Maynards best vocals.
Love how you have evolved!!!!
I feel so lucky to have come into my own in terms of musical appreciation right as this band was on the radar! And I still don’t have it all figured out yet. Those of you discovering them now, I’m envious, you have a beautiful trip ahead of you! Congrats, your now at the tippy top of the heap!
I subscribed just for Tool Tuesdays...
Thank you....there's plenty more to come
Same. I love when people discover Tool.
Put your headphones on man xD omegalul
I always thought that sound in the beginning was Adam Jones' foot-operated synthesizer called the "Moog Taurus".
But after reading the comments here I'm not so certain anymore ^^
Tool Tuesday!
Greetings from Sweden! I really like to see how you guys grow in your appreciation of TOOL. I look forward every Tuesday to see you,
PS: You have just got your new subscriber
Thank you so much my friend. Glad to have you as apart of The Trash Talkers Tribe
