I’m a non-commercial (I don’t do tickets) guard working primarily on the 455s but I sign 450/444 stock too, and I can say the statement surrounding the 456 withdrawal is a bit iffy, they were awful trains to work from what I know (I’ve only been with the company for a few months), but the statement about how the 707 withdrawal was stupid I completely agree with. It was a rash decision made with the false impression that the 701s would be on the way and as far as I’ve been told there won’t be any more 701s in service until they work out how the guards and drivers will actually operate the train.
Oh with the “soft launch” too, that was only to make the country think we got a new train out, every one of them that’s in operation has a guards manager and a staines guard (Staines are the ONLY depot that sign 701s atm) onboard which is incredibly costly and the DOO cameras are constantly failing. Believe me, when they enter service there will be a load of 3-5 min delays at random stops when the driver can’t see what’s in the cameras and has to hand operation over to the guard (as it should be).

Im an overground driver and that statement is 100% accurate, some of the things i've seen onboard are enough to make anyone's stomach turn.

on the GA 3+2 thing, they did a survey and the passangers wanted 3+2 seating, plus you need to think of the area - essex, typically having larger families and travelling in larger groups, so the 3+2 makes sense as to not seperate families
you also have to think of the TOC it's as well as the rolling stock - they are the most reliable TOC in the UK and they have excellent customer service and satisfaction, adding tables to the 745/1s because customers asked for it, GA is my local TOC and i've never been delayed more than 13 mins post the introduction of the new fleet, not to mention the prices are really good, £12 for a london - sheringham single the day before booking is wild
they're very reliable, really well priced, and comfortable and practical for the areas and routes they serve
    S tier for me imo

I think GA is really underrated - the sets they provide to the most rural locations are some of the best you can find, people may have some gripes with FLIRTs (too small on Cambridge to Norwich for example) but on the whole I really highly rate those sets, I will deliberately book slower routes so I can travel on one.

Great video - love the animations - interesting to hear your opinions - you gained a new subscriber!
You should have revisited your categorisation once you realised none were put into the S or D tiers - picked at least one operator to go down as your Best and at least one for your Worst operator, and move them accordingly.

we did think about that... but we managed to conclude that Britain's railways aren't absolutely amazing nor terrible!

@@willridestrains makes sense - you could include that in your conclusion next time.

The class 357s (as in may 2024) will get another refurbishment with a new livery with the repair of huckbolts and body corrosion in carriage ends
I dont get that they didn't actually touch the interiors
The interiors of the class 357 after the 2016-2017 refurbishment felt like it got more grey and dull over time

Quite generous for Scotrail given current events. Their rolling stock is also going to age terribly over the next few years due to the HST debacle and its knock on effects to 170s and the already tired 158s.
