Might wanna Get one now before the price skyrockets I paid $125 for my 5000 Model and $150ish for my 7000. They'll only go up in price as time goes on.
just got one for £90 a 5000 series, its working fine but decided to soft mod it with a FMCB so i could just use it as a PS2, definately one of my holy grail Sony consoles, glad i got one.
I really hope the HDD in mine never dies, I put a lot of stress on it making a backup of it, I hope if it does die I can restore that image to a HDD of the same model, but I have a feeling it might not work
i hope they do, i have plans on picking one up and using it for its main purpose: a DVR that can play PS2 video games, it’s so amazing and the design is slick, i will def enjoy using it for watching movies and also playing PlayStation 2 games since my PlayStation 3 can’t play any PlayStation 2 titles
@@Slot1Gamer really? last time there was activtiy related to it was in 2022, theres also a $1000 bounty for the fix which is crazy if theres a new post im not aware of that is active then thats awesome, im gonna be so excited if it does come out
I have two 7000 models, one works fine apart from the burning laser being defective that also checks the media. for the other one I would have to wait until someone cracks the security so I can use a different harddrive
The dvd laser can be found in a few other Sony products from the time, if you do go that path keep in mind some revisions aren’t electrically compatible and will burn the flex cable I have been told that function is coming soon but no definite timeline
@@Slot1Gamer I’m expecting at least one issue I’ve also found some drives too swap lasers out of if the writer laser is toast really look forward too the new hdd replacements coming in the future
Nice about the replacement lasers, you probably already know but make sure the pickups are the same revision as some aren’t compatible and will burn the flex
@@Slot1Gamercheers for the advice I’ll defo make sure to check there’s 2 drives ima try savage lasers out of also I saw a video of someone looking though a psx an they mentioned the dvd driver chip and it was the same chip which was defective in 50000 ps2s could this be why so many psx consoles have dead lasers as poor quality dvd r are a lot more likely too be used in a psx due too the nature of the device
I actually purchased one about a year ago, it was posted as not working but using the FreeMcboot memory card I can play games on it so it seems like the dvd laser is out. Just need to find one to replace it and hopefully I have a fully functional PSX. My only other worry is the HDD failing and then it will be nothing but a paper weight since there is no way to make an HDD or even copy the HDD to another one.
Nice :) If you do replace the dvd laser, be careful as there are different revisions to each model and some have VCC and GND reversed it seems. As mentioned in the video, if you have a GEN1 system you can use a Sony branded 40gb drive or maybe even the 20gb There are new things on the horizon for repair of this beast
This is the most in-depth video i have ever seen on this machine. Great job! I hope one day i can own one of these
i want one of these. coudn't afford one a few years ago now the prices have skyrocketed.

You can restore to another PSX drive, or to a new drive using the ide emulator
Or there is hopefully a bypass coming in a few months
Waow
@@Slot1Gamer Was a bypass ever found for this?
@@TripleM24 It's still in development last i heard

Pls update us once the hard disc problem is solved
Will do !
really hoping the encryption bit is figured out, nice piece of kit even today. Would be a shame for these to be landfill fodder
A solution is coming soon

Just brought one of these things complete but untested and in need of a clean look forward too seeing what I can get out of it
Awesome
Hopefully it’s all working good after a clean!

Who’s video was it?
The motor controller driver tends to die a lot as it’s under a bit of stress being constantly used while playing a disc
Do you know how to replace hdd and OS?
Wow. I have thought for years that "PSX" was an emulator for PS1 games. I cannot be alone in thinking this haha.
Yeah it’s crazy how hidden the psx was
Great video, keep it up
thank you! :D

Hybrid born from PS2 Hardware, PS1 Hardware and DVR's (Sony's RDR products).
It’s a trailblazer
