Empathy and sympathy are both different things. He said empathy meaning that he hasn't been in that situation but he understands how they feel. Sympathy is when you've been in that situation or similar and understand it. People use sympathy a lot when they should feel empathy. Just those words people forget.

These vlogs should be on TV. They are way better than the garbage on TV now.

Wow. Okay, these vlogs are great in terms of production value but to say it's better than ALL of what's on tv? That's a loaded statement my friend. Sure, the bread and butter of tv right now seems to be reality tv shows, and they suck, but how are these vlogs, while they are superior in quality and even content to said reality tv shows, any better than them? They're the exact same concept, same genre. I like these vlogs but I don't think they're any better than the keeping up with the Kardashians show, a show I greatly dislike. TV has some really good shows on it; Mr. Robot, Game of Thrones, the Leftovers, etc. Not to mention the countless reruns of good shows that have ended, shows like Breaking Bad or Seinfeld. These vlogs are great but don't kid yourself thinking they're any better than any other reality show.

Two gas stations in all of Manhattan.... Yeah well, that's what you get when the average Manhattanite has spent more than a few years urging NYC politicians to do pretty much everything but just outright ban cars. From transforming parts of 42nd street and near 20th street into outdoor lounges. Can't even call those ridiculous things parks. And why is it every time I walk past the one near 20th street, it's always empty except for maybe a handful of people at most.
Property prices in Manhattan have reached moronically insane levels. Of course the gas stations are going to sell out to the developers. The owner of one of the two that are left has publically said he's not selling at any price. He tried to put a nice spin on it, but the truth is he'll have a monopoly when his lone competitor sells out. Smart!
Meanwhile with actual streets being converted into those silly outdoor lounges, and gas stations shutting down, with the average Manhattanite having a hatred of cars that borders on clinically insane.... Yeah, enjoy the congestion and even more blocked roads as those cabbies struggling to make a living refuse to just politely go away.
I've lived in NYC since 1979, when I was a kid. As bad as it was back then, at least it wasn't moronic like it is now.

It's not "discouraging empathy" it's the fact that if something like that happens in an eastern country, literally no one cares. and its sad because it happens EVERY DAY.
Maybe it's not on the news because it happens every day? Maybe the news channels think there are other things to talk about that pertain to the lives of the viewers, who don't live in the region that was affected? I'm not implying what happens there isn't a big deal or we shouldn't talk about it. But every time there is an airstrike or something in Raqqa or some other place, I don't think the news channels feel that they need to report on EVERY airstrike due to the frequency of which they're executed. At this point, maybe the minority of viewers understand what is happening, and after hundreds of airstrikes, it would get old.

No. WE cause those airstrikes. US. Millions of innocent civilians are being bombed and murdered by us, so of fucking course were not going to report it on the news. But it's still the fact that it gets out other ways, but you don't see people spreading awareness about it like they do in dominantly white countries.
It is discouraging because people are trying to feel sympathy for a country that something horrible just happened and then they get blasted for not speaking about other countries? Like he said, it's honestly stupid. It's like we can't say anything or feel our sympathy for another country because for nobody it's ever good enough. Casey's job is not to report any type of news feed, yet he does because Nice has sentimental value to him. As for the media, the media reports on major countries based on the people and based on the tragedy. Sorry, but that's how it is at the moment and it's not about getting the story from your country to the news but actually making a change that everyone needs to participate from every race, country to get this world into a peaceful; equal, and better one. And the media doesn't just report on things that happen in white countries but also Asians and Latins.
